Moreno (and To A Lesser Extent, Sakho)

I really don't know what to make of this lad. In the Summer I was happy for us to get rid, but he came back and knuckled down and his performances improved. I could live with the occasional error (just) because he's young and they were starting to occur with less regularity.

So what to make of him. He's still infuriating at times, he's slack at marking, positionally suspect and his end product is hit and miss. On the plus side, he's very direct, quick and aggressive. Again, on the downside, he literally throws his whole body into challenges, sometimes it comes off, and other times it results in a foul, yesterdays farce being the prime example.

I said in yesterdays match thread that I'm struggling to remember a more vulnerable left hand side of defense with him and Sakho. Moreno's lack of concentration coupled with Sakho's erratic play and woeful decisions with his passing, is a recipe for continual disaster.

There are a few players who I feel won't make the cut with Klopp in the longterm and surely these are two players who have big question marks hanging over them.

Huge potential maybe, raw ability, but some aspects to their play that you just don't see being ironed out.

I actually wanted him to be booked late on. He'd been such a disgrace all match. It was a shocking performance. He makes multiple mistakes every damned game. I can take that for a while, but this is his second season here and he's no better.

I read somewhere the other day that he's created something like 10 or more chances more than any other defender in the league, which is certainly significant. I'm happy enough to keep him for now and continue to hope he improves defensively. We would be in a much stronger position if we had a solid LB who actually can defend to push him and to test him. When your completion is slobbing round in a spa instagramming his over privileged life then you're not exactly being pushed.

The back four should be concerned for their future at this club, though. Klopp will rightly ring the changes unless there's a marked improvements over the second half of the season.

Yeah, I still like the fucker. Needs to cut the mistakes out though and the foul for the pen yesterday was just daft.

I think Clyne is just about the only one you could say is safe, I think he's a fairly steady player in the mould of Finnan and Arbeloa. He's not the finished article by any means, but he's a good player. Skrtel has experience on his side and has largely been a consistent performer, give or take the occasional mishap - at least he does what Carragher did and puts his body on the line, throwing himself infront of the danger. The others - Sakho, Moreno and Lovren have to really get their shit together.

Ideally I'd like to see a more natural defender at left back, with a dominant centre back coming in. Maybe Gomez will pick up where he left off.

He makes so many rash decisions. No idea what was going through his head for the peno yesterday. I'd be happy to put flanno or Smith in

Yeah, I think Smith has done quite well, he gives us a bit of balance but can play too and puts in a great cross. He's positionally a bit raw at times, but he's a kid. Flanno is another sound option, and Gomez.

Moreno is a fuckwit. I'm normally pretty cool with the displays of affection shit, but when he fucking blubbed and blubbed and blubbed when leaving Sevilla you were thinking "shouldn't he at least be a bit pumped up about joining us rather than wallowing like this".

2 yrs on, still no proper grasp of English, and you have never seen a player exit Anfield post match so quickly in your fucking life.

So these are all the ancillary bits that don't matter if you are playing well. What did Albert and his agent do? As soon as he cobbled together 3 or 4 reasonable performances in a row link him like motherfuckers with a return to Spain with Real Madrid. Twats.

Not good enough, and somebody in the coaching staff needs to squash that retarded 'jump in 2 footed but tackle with the heels so it doesn't count as a foul and I don't hurt myself' pussy nonsense.

He's improved a lot under Klopp. I think he's okay and we could do better but a left back is not a priority in terms of new signings.

He was bad yesterday though.

I personally think Clyne could do with a dose of moreno, he can be equally frustrating when we're bombing forward, he'll get the ball and just kill the momentum off.

I think he's actually a left-sided midfielder rather than left back. Reminds me of Gareth Bale who had Redknapp tearing his hair out and damn near sold him (to us, if reports are to be believed). And the an injury forced Red Knapp to deploy Bale against Benitez's Inter ..

As for Sakho, I'm unsure. He's not upgrade on what we had and his headingability is awful for a centre-half

Ya there's no forgiving yesterday's performance. Which isn't even his first horror show! The fact he fouled him TWICE, he had no clue what to do. People wonder why were in the position were in, then you see performances like that and you realize the quality we have playing for us. He cant defend for shit. I still can't forgive him for the showing he put in against United last year, and people make excuses for him because he looks decent going forward but nearly always makes the wrong decision.

I think I said this a few weeks back that the left side of our defence is one of the worst I've ever seen play for Liverpool.

There's no "to a lesser extent" either - Sakho is fucking awful. No hyperbole, no melodrama, no overreaction - he is fucking shite.

Moreno's a pub footballer. He's a sprinter with boots on. Zipping up and down the wing as if that's his job. Who looks at that and thinks 'there's a footballer, let's buy him!' - fucking morons that's who. I swear I could do a better job at identifying talent than whomever does it for us.

And Sakho. That's the French Phil Babb right there. Absolute fucking joke of a footballer. I like to think I keep up with most footballing parlance this days, but I have to admit the term 'beast' has passed me by. I've seen Sakho referred to as a beast countless times on here and elsewhere. Well beast can only mean to be haplessly fucking useless on the air, on the ground, and with a ball at your feetin that case.

Here's the rundown on him. He's fucking terrible with the ball at his feet. Two splay-feet shuffling side to side like one moves a wardrobe to a different spot in the bedroom. He's a centre back and he's awful in the air, as Saturday showed. Again. He continues to fucking lunge in for tackles when they're not needed, he's more comfortable on his arse than he is standing up, and I could go on all day about his positional abilities. His awareness, perception, brain, the works. This cunt is fucking shite. I get that he's some kind of cult figure due to his faux-aggression and lung-busting die hard badge-kissing whatever, but let’s face it – PSG thought David Luiz a 30 million pound better defender than this chop.

This is now the worst Liverpool defence I can remember in my lifetime, and these two clowns make up 50% of it.

Moreno and Sakho will prove you wrong, Ryan.

Personally - if Benteke did not exist in our team and it was the final 10 to 5 minutes, I would put him up front to stick to the last defender. He is very fast and has a great shot on him. He has improved significantly this season, as defenders go - they are allowed to make mistakes because it is often their mistakes that create goals for the opposition. He was really foolish and stupid in giving away that penalty yesterday that is for sure.

Moreno is shite I've always said it. Well I suppose he's ok when he can run with the ball and make the odd last ditch tackle. He's fine on the halfway line, but he's awful at both ends of the pitch. Switches off defensively game after game, has no positional sense whatsoever and despite getting in very good attacking positions his distribution is often very very poor.

Sakho is a capable centre half but he needs to step up now. Coming back from injury or not, he needs to cut out the stupid and needless errors and defend properly. Gets injured too regularly also. I like him but he's not someone I'd be confident we can count on going into next season and beyond and injuries play a part in that.

Sakho's been with us for 2 and a half years. This isn't the 'adjustment period' of some foreigner who's just got off the boat. This is him.

Getting truly owned by Olivier Giroud one week, getting dicked by someone who's name I can't even remember from Noriwch the next. He's the centre-piece of a fucking shite defence.

He's awful.

I reckon Gomez could be centre half along with a new signing. Matip perhaps.

Either way our defence needs sorting. Big time.

They both need replacing.

What side does that Matip play as by all accounts he's coming? We'll hopefully have Gomez back, and with Smith and Flanagan we should have a few options at fullback. What we desperately need though is an experienced head to teach them how to defend.

Neither are playing very well but I've wanted rid of Moreno for ages. He's rubbish, pace and aggression are his only attributes.

Hopefully Flanno dislodges him pronto

I was gutted when we bought moreno and gutted he's still here. I know the modern day fullback seems to focus more on going forward but you still have to be able to defend a little bit. His defending is schoolboy level and you sometimes wonder if he ever learnt the basics. That penalty he gave away was a joke. He somehow got away with the first kick so he thought he'd kick him again.

Moreno is the only one with any speed though. Without him we will be a bunch of old folks playing football.

I could not believe that shit Moreno pulled for the penalty yesterday, it's like his brain went walkabout. You've just got way with one horrendous challenge and then pull that stunt. I was literally open-mouthed, WTF. Fine him a week's wages for being a total dick.

Such a pity Gomez was injured, his future may lie at CB but for now I'd have him as our regular LB (him and Flanno can fight over it) and Moreno can play against the likes of Exeter. Defensive stability is what I want primarily from a fullback and Gomez has that and a tidy, though unspectacular, contribution going forward too.

This is true, but defensively he's very solid and I'll take that all day every day until the team gains some semblance of stability and consistency.

I think there is more chance of Smith being regular LB in the future than him. Or Flanno.
