Tangential to the thread but....... I still don't understand why managers have to take FA coaching courses before they are allowed manage professional teams. Shanks, Clough, Sir Bob, Ferguson, Stein etc would all still be successful in the modern age and McLeish, Worthington, McLaren etc will continue to fail no matter how many coaching badges they have.

......................and McLeish won the Scottish Premier but they're both still shite managers. It's possible for a shite manager to have a lucky start to their career at a club.
In McLeish's case he got a job trying to win a 2 horse race and his only competitior was an untried novice, Lennon, who has still not proved to be a particularly good manager.
In McLaren's case I can only assume that he got lucky in Holland because he caught PSV, Ajax etc in transitional phases and he was left a decent team at his disposal because nothing he has done since that success has been met with anything but abject failure (even his return to the Dutch league).
The difference being that most people in this thread have given valid reasons why some players are causing us problems, while acknowledging their respect abilities aswell.

I'm not too bothered about the full backs bombing on all the time. When we had Neal, Kennedy etc we just made sure we had fucking good centre halves. A winger can cross the ball all he wants if no opposing attacker can get it ahead of the centre backs.
