On a serious note, while Masher is an important player, there can be no arguments about his form this season; it's been erratic to poor
He's been steadily improving, and has been one of our best players in most of our recent matches. Last season he was worse - it took him till January to really hit form. At his best, though, he's almost superhuman.

It also doesn't help that he's been playing alongside the equally uncreative Lucas in most matches. Put him next to a great passer and he'd instantly look much better because he wouldn't keep trying to do stuff he's not good at.

He's a class act at what he does but I've been disappointed by him this year. The balance of the midfield isn't right, that's clear, however everyone cites his Argentinian captaincy as to why he's worth the £30-35M price tag many think we'll achieve, and it's times like this when you need players of that ilk to stand up and be counted. Javier hasn't, IMO.

The same accusation can be levelled at Kuyt.

Agreed. Which is why I said right at the start of the season that if we kicked off against Spurs with Masher and Lucarse as our CM, we would not win the title.

As a partnership, any retard can see it's useless.

Right again. Unfortunately

He admittedly hasn't turned up in every game, but who has? Against the bigger sides he's done well, as per, and even when his own game isn't clicking he's always a nuisance to the opposition, which is more than we've been able to say for too many of our players this season.
its not the bigger clubs we have a problem with, and he keeps getting sent off against the mancs 😛olice:

Forget ideal world, masher+new players, think reality.

Selling hiim has to be an option for Rafa in January

Unfortunately, repeating it over and over again doesn't make it any better of an idea.

Whatever fee we received for Masher would have to be ploughed back into the signing of a replacement.

It's not worth the risk, time or effort.

it may not be Rafa's choice if he wants to go, it will be like Xabi all over again.

If Rafa has to sell him as he is unhappy, off form ETC then better plan for it rather than panic buy at the last minute like we did for Aqualini.

Sell Babel, Masher and Voronin = £35 million to spend

Then give Rafa the money to spend as a last chance, give Rafa one more season after this and then we will see what he can do

Darren Fletcher is looking like the best at Mashers position currently in the PL plus he scores goals and assists, who would have believed that a few years ago. DM is a position you are more likely to find a cheaper alternative to Masher who is nearly as good compared to trying to replace a Torres for example which I hope we never have to do.

Fox, I'm only replying to you personally once so I'll make it quite straight forward.

We're a club devoid of quality; off the tip of my tongue I can roll out hundreds of players who haven't deserved to wear the red shirt over the course of my lifetime. So when you do get players who can be considered 'the best in the world' at what they do, and are courted by the worlds top clubs, you do your damn hardest to keep hold of them.

It's quite simple.

Firstly, you're assuming that we'll find a bidder to pay top whack in January. Clubs usually don't do this sort of business in January and I don't think any of the big clubs are that desperate for a DM at this moment in time.

Secondly, you're assuming that all fees received would be put straight back into the transfer kitty. Given that Rafa sold Alonso for 30M+, bought Aquilani for ~20M and the remaining 10M was nowhere to be seen, it's another risky assumption.

Thirdly, what has Darren Fletcher go to do with anything? Does anyone class him as DM? If you think we can pick up some cheap alternative that can do what Masher does or maybe even improve upon him, by all means name some names (first choice players for Real Madrid excluded).

We're skint Fox, what makes you think the money we get from selling Mascherano will be ploughed back into transfers? What if the owners only make 3million available? We sign a 32 year old Greek midfield warhorse and pray Aquilani and Gerrard dont get injured, like, forever? Or we rely on Jay Fucking Spearing?

We could resurrect Redondo. Would that be cheap enough?

Come one Fox, name some names.
Exclude first team Real Madrid players and give us some viable options to replace Mascherano.

We can't call Fox names anymore, so I'm afraid we will have to put up with an increase in his totally brainless drivel

We are skint, he has a good value and reputation abroad.

If we can get £25-30 million for Masher I will take it. I have always said he is overated, a player of his talents should not cost that much, he contributes nothing going forward and the job he does very well can be achieved with a much cheaper player.

We need attacking players, more goals in tight games and he is hardly protecting the back four this year is he.

Lets spend the money on two attacking quality players and Lucas/Aqua can partner Stevie in the middle.

If Torres gets injured again then Stevie can move forward for those games.

We do not have enough money to just buy talent and Masher is an expensive asset we can afford to lose but we cannot afford not to buy more attacking/creative talent in January
Sounds like

"We will not miss Makélélé. His technique is average, he lacks the speed and skill to take the ball past opponents, and ninety percent of his distribution either goes backwards or sideways. He wasn't a header of the ball and he rarely passed the ball more than three metres. Younger players will arrive who will cause Makélélé to be forgotten" F. Perez

And on spending the money on 2 attacking players

"Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine?" Z. Zidane

"I have replaced a man who struggles to pass the ball 5 yards with a player who can comfortably pass it 40" (Beckham)

Good old Perez, the loon.

It is worth noting that if you are going to have players *as* defensive minded as Mascherano/Makelele in your first-team, i.e: players who will contribute nothing in an attacking sense, you need to compensate for that elsewhere.

I don't think we're got the right level of attacking quality to sometimes justify having Mascherano here, though admittedly it's not his fault. I'd sooner see players like Kuyt and Riera improved upon than Javier leaving.
