Rehash of Italian reports today from the Telegraph:
Liverpool transfer news and rumours: Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic heading to Anfield

Liverpool are on the brink of signing Mateo Kovacic, the Inter Milan midfielder, according to reports in Italy.

Kovacic, 21, is a long-time transfer target of Brendan Rodgers who has identified the midfielder as a possible replacement for the departed Steven Gerrard.

A report in Metro on Monday claimed Liverpool had agreed a £16.4 million deal for the Croatian who recently told Italian website Tuttosport that he was "still happy in Italy".

Despite being played in a deep role by manager Roberto Mancini at San Siro, Kovacic has also filled the playmaker role - the role vacated by Philippe Coutinho after the Brazilain left for Liverpool.

Should Kovacic join Liverpool, the Croatian would give Rodgers plenty of options in the midfield with Coutinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva all competing for places.

Despite Inter's poor season, Kovacic scored five goals and created 62 chances.

"For now I’m still happy in Italy, but we’ll see about the future," Kovacic told Tuttosport. "There’s no need for us to talk, I recently renewed my contract. I’m not expecting any further notifications, but of course you never know with the transfer market."

It seems that no reports are concrete.. Every article is just a rehash of the original article..

Nobody knows..

My hunch ? We ain't signing him..

"You are out of the way, Mateo remains". This statement, reported a few minutes ago by Sky Sports, and that would be done through social, it has been attributed to Marco Fassone, general manager of Inter, in response to the many rumors about an imminent sale of Mateo Kovacic to Liverpool.

Any know what that all meant?

This may well be a rubbish link. However, was wondering how an additional attacking CM fits in when we have Coutinho, Milner, Lallana, Henderson.

But I could live with this - provided the 4 attacking mids played with a high level of fluidity:

Can

Lallana Milner Coutinho Kovacic

(Striker)

Let's be real, there isn't room for another CM at the moment.

You've got Henderson, Allen and Lucas also. Something's got to give.

DiMarzio claiming that although no bid has yet been made, our interest in Kovacic is known and real.

Well, yeah. But at least it adds some weight to the otherwise crappy rumour that we're sniffing around him.

If we play 3 in central midfield, we would want a squad of around 6 midfielders to provide cover, competition& options.

Henderson, Milner, Lucas, Allen, Can & Kovacic would certainly do that.

We could send a couple of the young CM's out on loan for experience.

Twatter saying this one is nearly done apart from his agent going full aidy ward and wanting a release clause for pretty much what we're looking to pay for him. But apart from that everything looks a goer.
Take with a pinch of salt via twatter obv.

[article=Talksport]Inter Milan have rejected an offer for Mateo Kovacic from Liverpool - which included Mario Balotelli as a makeweight.
The Reds are hot on the heels of the Croatian after it was reported he could be available this summer.
Inter want around £22m for the 21-year-old but Liverpool value the midfielder at closer to £15m.
In attempt to make up the difference, according to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool offered Balotelli as part of any deal.
The striker failed to hit the heights expected of him on Merseyside after a £16m move last summer and Brendan Rodgers is ready to ship him out.
But, Inter have rejected the chance to re-sign the 24-year-old and instead told Liverpool they want a straight cash deal for Kovacic.

We offered £20M + Ballotelli, they refused but said they woudl take £16M straight cash

Must be some sort of record that.
He hasn't signed yet and he already wants out.
