According to Italian TV we've made a 22m bid for him.

Apart from being aware of the hype, I think I've only seen him play once.

Is he worth it?

Probably to ensure we don't get raped with the Sterling money.

I can't say I've been *that* impressed with him when I've seen him.
Bit of a luxury signing too.

Saw him once or twice during the World Cup when we were first linked last summer. He was invisible. Maybe I did see him only once.

BTW out of extreme boredom, I looked up Kovacevic in transfermarkt and can confirm that out of 86 guys with that last name, only one fella has an estimate market value of more than 1 million pounds - 1.32m to be exact. Aleksander Kovacevic, a 23-year-old DM from Red Star Belgrade

Well, at least we're buying a DM!

Kovacic is a very good player and has amazing potential. Not sure if he's what we need though.
Very much in the Coutinho type player but has been playing central midfield.

Gerrard replacement maybe.

Have not watched a lot of him. But he appears to be a midfielder in the Wiltshere/Iniesta mould. The kind who can hold onto a ball by dribbling in tight spaces and capable of sexy through balls. Far more skillful than Wiltshere but obviously not at the Coutinho or Iniesta level.

An Italian as a Gerrard Replacement.. Eeeek...

Didn't we try to replace Alonso with an Italian and eventually ended up with a Scottish chap with Corner kicks 'worth 10 million alone' ?

Err he looks much more like a Barkley style dynamo to me, lots of power but a slight lack of finesse.

I can't see there being much in it tbh. He's essentially just another central AM. It's literally the last position we need to strengthen.

No no, he isn't. Peekay is right, he is definitely in the Wilshere/Iniesta mode. I wrote about him 2-3 years ago, when he was still at Dinamo Zagreb, and he used to play as an AM there - very dribbly and full of clever passing.

I know Inter tried to use him as an Alonso style regista, but I can't say if he's been successful at the role - haven't watched enough. He is however a very talented player - if we're playing a 4-3-3 again, then he'd slot very well as one of the two advanced mids (a no. 8 basically).

Agree that it's not a top priority at all. But I won't be unhappy about signing a genuinely talented player ever. Kovacic is definitely that in my book.

How many goals did we score from midfield this season? We need goals from anywhere.

[article]It’s reported that Liverpool met with Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio and Mateo Kovacic in Milan today to discuss a move for the player.

The Croatian playmaker is considered one of Europe’s rising stars, but is also one of the Nerazzurri’s most valuable assets.

With Financial Fair Play restrictions hanging over the club, its believed the Beneamata will have to sell before they can buy this summer.

According to calciomercato.com Kovacic and Ausilio met with three Liverpool executives today, at the Palazzo Parigi in the centre of Milan.

There is no word yet as to whether a bid was made by the English side, but the website believes that Inter have made it clear that they will not do business for less than €30m.[/article]

His goals this season can be viewed here: http://www.inter.it/en/squadra/G0918

If Inter have financial difficulties, we should just offer the 32 million we're planning to spend on Benteke for Icardi.

He'll be one of Europe's top 5 strikers over the next 5 years.

Fabrizio Romano and Joe Musker who're both on Di Marzio's site have also said there's no bid for Kovacic.

Hes a genuine talent but Id be concerned about his decision making, he seems to need to beat 3 or 4 players every time before hes prepared to release the ball. Hes also not much of a goalscorer. As long as we were paying less than £20m
