Hardly fair, Johnson has been one of the few bright spots in this otherwise dark and utterly depressing season. He hasnt recaptured his early form since his injury and yes his positioning for the own goal he gave away last week was poor but if you think hes been our worst defender this season then you are watching different games to me. The 2nd goal on Saturday involved Agger doing a lazy impression of Skertl and Carra being brushed aside in a manner that made me think he had mistaken his opponent for Drogba and decided to allow him the freedom of the penalty area at will, while our world class goal keeper was twice beaten from an accute angle.

I hate to say it but there has been a collective erosion of confidence in the squad, the defenders are playing like novices. Johnson kept his head above water longer than most but unfortauntely he too seems to have succumbed to the poison thats infected our dressing room. Mascherano has been getting wilder by the game and Torres and Gerrard have devolved in sulking and bickering with officials while clueless players like Kuyt and Lucas just dont want the ball.

If Rafa gets the sack it wont be because of Johnson it will be because he has constructed a team devoid of any shape in attack or defence, no clear gameplan, no will to win, he has created a caution first midfield that treats a football as if its made of kryptonite, he employs wide players without the skill or technique to beat an opposing player let alone pass the ball. He employs wide players with no pace whose primary obejective is to defend agaisnt the opposing fullback, away to the worst team in the league.

Great post.

Holding Glen Johnson responsible for our failings this season, and implying he could get Rafa the sack is like blaming a stockbroker for the Global financial crisis.

And it won't be the last time something like this occurs either.
