Ibe vs Sterling

Perhaps you should take your post and shove it up your ass maybe?

Anyway, Sterling, 4 league goals (3 in 1 game) in 13 games, so he's scored in 2 games out of 13. And has 2 assists. Fucking quality mate, quality. 49mill of amazeballs right there.

"Amazeballs"

Oh dear.

Did you really make that chart?! I love the last category 😀
Ha! I hadn't noticed - just counted Sterling winning 7-4. I do wonder at the difference between shooting and finishing. Is "shooting" shots from distance, and "finishing" being in the right place and staying calm?

Sterling is clearly a better player right now. I've said from day that I'd rather we didn't sell but it's done now.

Let's not compare the two of them. They are different in their playing styles anyway. Fingers crossed Ibe really kicks on again for us.

On a side note, how brilliant would it be to finish above City this season. Aidy Ward and Sterling would look quite the fools. (More so than usual)

@ILD It would be fantastic of course. It's a very real possibility.

I've formulated a new equation given our remaining matches and predicted league finishing position based on results under Klopp.

LFC Wins²(-MCFC Loss) √Klopp³(Studge Goals²)+(Aguero Treatment)-(Jan Reus Transfer)+(Jan Hummel Transfer)=......... 99.6% Chance we'll win the league.

There you go mate - Mathematical evidence right there. 🙂

Ibe is a very poor crosser of the ball. He plays a through ball well most of the time, but his crosses are very poor. Sterling gift-wrapped a bunch of crosses to Suarez for tap-ins. Need Jordan to start doing the same for us.

+- United hijacking any Hummels deal.😉

He plays more games though and gets into better positions than Ibe, I'd say that's a credit to Sterling's intelligence on the pitch. If Ibe got the chances Sterling got, I'd say Ibe would score more.

I've seen big players bounce off Sterling. Physically, Ibe is built like a tank, obviously, but Sterling is very strong.
Really ? Sterling usually goes down the first time he goes shoulder to shoulder and then looks up pleadingly for a FK. We were all criticising this in his last season here - funny how so many forget so quickly.

Pace - Ibe is/was the fastest player at the club and still was even before Sterling left. There may not be much in it but Ibe is faster. More relevant though are standing starts - and I've no idea in that regard.

Technique - well this needs defining but if it's ball control then I'd give that to Ibe because he hardly ever loses that damn thing once it's attached to his boot.

Intelligence - Sterling ? Another quality we were ripping him for whilst here.

Finishing - I think Sterling gets far more chances (Silva, Toure etc. - also tactics ?) than Ibe and of course plays in virtually every match, so the 'goals per game' is misleading and would be far more accurate if 'goals per minutes played' were used, since Ibe is a sub more often than not.

Aye. This myth that's developed around Sterling's uncanny strength is a nonsense.

He's strong for his size (he's tiny) and he has plenty of that wiry strength that means he can shield the ball from bigger players when he's standing still, but where it really makes a difference for an attacker - shoulder to shoulder when taking on a defender - he's pretty much as weak as he looks.

Calling Sterling strong is like calling Can fast. Both true in the right circumstances, but still basically misleading.

Interesting debate - but my own views are simply this:-

1) Sterling won't last long at Man City - maybe two more seasons at best but ultimately he will fade from top tier football in this country. He does not have the physical attributes and is a slight upgrade on Sean Write-Philips. That is why I was not that bothered when he was sold - I always look at it as a gain for us and a loss for him.

2) Ibe has the physical attributes to last in this league so long as he stays free from many injuries. He also has the same type of attributes as Sterling in that he can get past players, has pace, and can score goals. What he lacks right now compared to Sterling is in the head - in terms of his decision making. However, this will improve and we are even seeing some of this happen right now. I suspect by the end of the season - Klopp will make him 80% of the player we want him to be.

I actually think Ibe can become world class in that position he occupies, and he will start scoring more goals. The guy has a body frame built like a boxer and if he sticks with us - he will serve LFC very well for years to come.

I think in a recent game Glenn Hoddle was commenting on him - and he said as much regarding his physique that Ibe has the physical attributes to make it in this league - and I could not help thinking that he feels the same way I do when viewing Sterling as he was the object of his comparison. Indirectly he was kind of implying that he did not think that Sterling would last long in this league.

Sterling (L) vs Ibe (R)
-Wishes he was still a Liverpool player 1-0
-Is a key Liverpool player under Klopps management 0-1

Calling Sterling strong is not misleading. I don't think it was a myth created on here. He is very strong IMO.

These two moments always stood out to me. I remember bursting out laughing at the Kompany one and it was also nice to see a bully like Dembele not having it all his own way.

The absolute best game he ever played was against man city when we nearly won the league. That's why they gave 50 for him. Same reason we gave 35 for Carroll, etc. Stupid. He's never played at that level since.

I love that pass dummy left footy thing he does. Ibe can go on to be a sensational player but its still early days.
Seems like a very down to earth lad that wants to learn. If he listens to Klopp he'll be ace.

The bolded bit could be key IMO. One can argue their respective merits as players, but what they go on to become will have a lot to do with the kind of individuals they are, and there Ibe is streets ahead of Sterling, on current evidence anyway. I can see Sterling burning out quite quickly.
