Hull Post Match Thread...

Yup, people have short memories, we played some dire stuff under every manager over the last 20 odd years. Some of Rafa and Ged's later games were embarrassing too.

Yeah, time is a healer and things maybe don't seem as bad looking back, not for me though, to many of our performances this decade have been an absolute disgrace, at least under Rodgers they are a lot less frequent compared to his predecessors, this calendar year has been decent tbh, only the odd blip against shite like Hull.

Yeah I didn't say it was every week. I'm well aware what it was like under Hodge and that things have improved.. But today's performance was hapless. There was absolutely nothing to it. No plan A, no plan B no tactics, no shape, no guts, nothing. It was a fucking shambles. It was like eleven plus players looking like they never played together before turning up for a match without a manager. Apart from the Moses miss I cannot remember one second move that even threatened a goal.

I don't actually blame the defence and our 2 holding midfielders - I think you could replace them and the net result would be much the same.

It's all about a static & non-entity attacking midfield for me.

The gap between the attacking midfield 3 and the defensive midfield 2 was horrific - that's were it all falls down for me - we seem to be holding a deep defensive line while operating a high attacking line which means when our defence is pressed we inevitably surrender the ball in dangerous positions or lob it forward in the hope Suarez can do some magic.

I think it's because our players are dumb. They're just fucking stupid. Henderson personifies this fir me - he's just a big dumb headless chicken of a player. He has a role to llay, but when he's in a side stuffed with other players struggling then it just exacerbates our problems.

That, and we lack dynamic leadership on the pitch.

This is exactly the problem today: 11 players and not 1 team. At one point Flanagan and Skrtel looked at each when there was ball to win, each not knowing who should go for it. Another example was Skrtel and Toure both trying head the same ball so essentially defending against each other. Johnson and Gerrard over hitting or under hitting their passes, Suarez looking for a one two with no one, Flanagan getting scared whenever he approached the half way line, Lucas generally fouling in an attempt to tackle someone, Henderson with that preposterous 2 foot shuffle but not actually tackling, gaining distance or controlling the ball. Moses, what did you do today? Other than unsuccessfully try and chip a ball over a Hull player in our own half. And Sterling, great you can run really really fast, try and remember you're a footballer and you're meant to know what to do with a ball once you get the the line. I know you're 19 but this isn't rocket science.

Aaargh, poor poor poor today from the manager, the players, I bet even Pascoe didn't put the cones out right.

Dont disagree with any of that, it was a pile of shit, a pile of shit that has become a lot more rare in the last year, hopefully we won't see it again for a long time.

We havent got another left back have we? Cissokho hasnt been good, but the defence has looked much better with a natural left footed left back in there. Playing people out of position is doing wonders at the moment isnt it? Two home games. We need to find a defensive balance. Its an easy choice for me. Play him until we can sign a new lb in January. Flanno isnt the answer, Agger isnt, Sakho isnt and Enrique is injured. What would you do RM?

Hi All

Definitely a game we needed to win. We will look back at this day if we come 5th and think if only !!!

Regards,
MORON

Remember "Parlour, Morrow, Hillier. Can you think of a midfield sillier?"

Yeah I can.

You would struggle to put a worse midfield than ours together if you tried. And I include drafting in tramps and amputees.

And loads with Kenny in charge.

A lot of people like to conveniently forget that, i get why but for me that last half of a league season was the worst ever in memory from a Liverpool team, never before did i genuinely believe we were going to lose every match including at Anfield to the relegation fodder, and after all that money spent aswell, astounding really, we had a real glimpse there what it was like to be a bottom of the table team and to be fair we did under Hodgson aswell.

Not much to discuss here. We were fucking shite. Everyone. Case closed.

Also, no MotM thread yet? I was looking forward to it. Should be a good laugh trying to pick out 1 player, let alone 3.

Sakho was inexplicably dropped, and we've been shit defensively since that. He needs to come back into the side.

I didn't see the game, but I'd go back to him and Skrtel at the back based on performances this season.

I was telling Lech on FB that this loss made me grumpy because I felt we had the chance to do something this season ... that we could win games we didn't deserve and get on a good run ... I think I'm back to the frustrating reality that we're an average squad with two great strikers who have a manager who's not worked out that our central midfield is wank.

I don't get why Sakho isn't starting - he was dominating against Ukraine in a pressure cooker atmosphere. He is our marquee signing - he should be starting every fucking game.

Also, if you spend 20 million on 3 players - and none can get any game time, what is that telling us about our scouting? about our ability to waste money?

Para 1 - exactly.

Para 2 - exactly.

Para 3 - exactly.

Didnt Skrtel lose the header for the second goal? Just like Evertons first goal last weekend.

He did indeed. WiIl Skrtel ever make a defensive header again ? They could have had 2 more goals if the headers were on target, both from his inability to compete in the air.

And people can say 'he throws himself in front of everything' all they like but that cost us the 3rd goal because he threw himself at a ball going well wide because he had no idea of his positioning !

Luckily I was dying with a hangover and drifted in and out of consciousness for the 90minutes.

Sooo.... people want Cissokho back in the side? did Flanagan reveal an I heart Jimmy Saville t-shirt or something?

I missed the game today. Joking aside, were there any positives at all? Even one small crumb of comfort?

None.

Oh wait, there is one : maybe that Countinho continues to show he is the only thing that seems to make us tick in MF (when Gerrard's off his game, he was OK yesterday). His ability to go past players is wonderful and is the catalyst for many (most) of our attacks when he is on the pitch. He needs to find a better final ball sometimes but he is still young and learning. I love watching him play.

So, Rodgers reckons the squad isn't big enough to cope with the loss of Sturridge & Coutinho.

Probably shouldn't have spent it all on CB's and Midfielders you're going to leave on the bench, let alone pointless acquisitions like Aspas, eh Brendan?

I knew we would struggle to create anything when I saw that Moses and Sterling were playing. I was surprised we didn't change things sooner. We could and probably should, have lost 4-1. It was a sobering performance if ever there was one.

“There’s no doubt our quality in our squad, with all due respect, isn’t big enough to cope with two big players like that missing,” said the Anfield boss.
“We still have some very good players. Obviously, Daniel could be out for up to eight weeks with his ankle problem.
“Philippe hasn’t trained all week. He has a high ankle strain and had some injections to get on the bench. He did very well to get on the field.
“You take those two out... they are two very, very good players, who have been very efficient for us.
“This period now will test us. For the players who come in, it will be a great opportunity to stake their place in the team and hopefully we can get back to winning games.”

“It’s an understatement to say it was disappointing,” he said. “It was very disappointing. Today hurts us all and we just never got near our level.
“We went into the game with confidence and belief, but we made too many mistakes. We are all very disappointed.
“We lacked quality with the ball. We never created enough or kept the ball long enough in order to move them about.
“In the last two games we have conceded six goals. We have to be much, much better in that and we have to return to that on Wednesday night at home to Norwich.”

I won't lie , the first line irritates the fuck out of me . Yeah of course it's hard when you lose players of their quality but he's spent a fair whack of money that just sits on the bench or is out on loan . Why don't we have better quality in our squad , why did we buy/loan these players if they're not adding decent quality ?
He's a chancer as far as i'm concerned .
