Everton pre match thread

Link didn't work on my phone. I think it could sense bullshit.
It sensed well. 25 mins, not that I got past minute two when he started to implode when gently pushed by an obvious red, of an Everton fan being, well an Everton fan.

Lallana hasn't scored for us in 3 months. His form otherwise also hasn't been very good in 2017.

So I don't necessarily think this is a huge loss. In fact, if this makes Klopp revert to 4-2-3-1, I think we might see more stable results in this last quarter of the season.

I respect your opinion on most things so if that's the formation, who would you select?

Unless Henderson is fit, I can't see a compatible two holding players. And if it means Origi as the sole striker it would be worrying.

Grujic's injuries have been a real blow, I reckon he would have given us more options and a better balance.

4231 with what? Henderson, Can and Wijnaldum, who also don't score? Lallana has been one of our best players all season. We'll see how much we miss him this month, unless Coutinho decides to pull his finger out.

I would say Can and Wijnaldum in the middle, Firmino up front, Origi on the wing, Coutinho at #10.

Yep, Henderson for Can once he's fit again.

Also, Coutinho and Origi can swap.

Let's say loosely the Arsenal 2003-04 formation.

From Argentinian paper:
Another bad news: FM suffered meniscus break, it will be operated on Tuesday and will be at least 2 months without playing.

Everton's CB Funes MOri

There are three things I dont like about this game:

1) All the stuff written about us not losing at home since 1999.
2) 1230 kick off. We're usually poor with an early kick off.
3) We have a pretty poor record the first game after an international break. 12th best team in the league during the last 10 years.

As written earlier, not sure what to expect from this game. Everton missing some key players but so do we now. A loss would ruin the weekend, thats for sure.

Yeah, I feel like we haven't won an early game all season. We probably have, but I can't remember it.

I'd forgotten about that. Cheers for reminding me. Now I'm pessimistic again.

Fuck.

Ok, but that doesn't really make Firmino the answer, to being "our best striker" when he isn't striker and doesn't score enough goals, is the reason we'll buy one in the Summer, which more or less confirms what we've said all season.
And no-one has disputed that all season. Klopp has been unlucky, Sturridge falling on the scrap heap and Ings fucked for the season left him with a youngster who naturally is not ready to take complete responsibility and making do with converted midfielders.
Klopp clearly sees Firmino as integral to his system and no matter who arrives in the Summer Firmino will remain a guaranteed starter - so the haters better get used to swallowing their bile.
As for Kens comment re. clinical : no team is clinical though one or two teams in the lower reaches tend to have better stats simply because I guess many of their goals are breakaways or set pieces. There was an article a month ago which actually had Liverpool as one of the teams in the PL with a better goals to chances ratio. United one if the worst. 'Clinical' by itself means nothing without context given by other stats.

We need to stand up to them and their dogs of war from the start but in a disciplined way. Not in a
Barkley on Henderson way. But we lack a genuine, physical enforcer in the team who ensures that we don't get out fought. A Whelan type player. Unnoticed by many but someone who steps up physically but not recklessly. A calm but sinister approach.

We don't need to stamp on them or do what Barkley did. Just remain unmoved by their intensity. Our high octane approach often can hinder us when we need to manage the game and the opposition. We can pick these off if we play sensibly and don't get sucked in. The way we used to manage the first 20 mins of a European away in 70s and 80s
Wijnaldum. He is very impressive in doing just what you describe. Keeping and winning possession under pressure. Need a big game from him and hope Hendo is back.

We won an early kick off game on a Saturday against Swansea away, and played a good game vs Spurs away early in the season.
But we've also lost at home to Swansea and Wolves in the FA cup.

The good old friendly derby, ey? I'm noting we feature prominently in the list of most incendiary fixtures in the PL era. No doubt because there is a conspiracy against us by a cabal of referees.

“Liverpool v Everton is known as the ‘Friendly Derby’, yet someone always seems to be sent off,” writes Paul Jeffreys. “Has any Premier League fixture had more red cards?”
It’s harder to find red-card data going back to 1888, so we don’t know what is the dirtiest top-flight fixture of all time but our friends at Opta have confirmed that the Merseyside derby is, by quite a distance, the Premier League match with the most red cards.

To date there have been 21 red cards in 49 Premier League derbies. Three of these came in one game in September 1999, when Franny Jeffers and Sander Westerveld threw hands and Steven Gerrard was a couple of days late on Kevin Campbell. Gerrard and Phil Neville have each been sent off twice.
In second place on the list – unsurprisingly, given its nature – is Liverpool v Manchester United. There have been 16 red cards in that fixture, a couple of them to somebody other than Nemanja Vidic.
The full list of shame is:
  • 21 Everton v Liverpool
  • 16 Liverpool v Manchester United
  • 15 Everton v Newcastle United
  • 14 Liverpool v Newcastle United
  • 13 Chelsea v Everton, Aston Villa v Newcastle United
  • 12 Arsenal v Liverpool, Arsenal v Chelsea

McCarthy confirmed out aswell according to Koeman. He was not happy with Ireland, or the player for that matter.

Fair point.

I've been quietly impressed with him since he joined. Must admit his signing underwhelmed me but he's winning me over.

Wouldn't surprise me if Milner is moved into the midfield and Moreno comes in.
