Carroll

I think the problem with Andy Carroll isn't as complicated as some are making out and it's all to do with him being shit. It's quite simple really, if he stops with the whole being shit thing he might be good, but he really can't start scoring until he sorts the whole being really really fucking shit thing out.

But it's not just as simple as that.

His touch and ability are just fucking gash. If we're building a team around balls played in to carrolls head then 6th is about as high as we'll get. I had high hopes for him but he's pish. At least Owen & Torres had a footballing brain and knew how to exploit the space Gerrard could create. You can put it on a plate time and time for Big Andy and the fucker would probably just choke on it.

I want him to succeed, but all I see is some big cloven hoofed fucker trotting round a field making a pigs arse out of things.

For the millionth time, he's needed service to suit his game, Stevie has provided perfect crosses for every striker we've ever had.

Within ten minutes last night he provided three ideal balls to him & by the time the last one came in Carroll knew what to expect & was very close to scoring. When they're playing together for a game or two he'll be firing on all cylinders, I'm convinced of it.

That's not to say he doesn't need to add more to his game, but it will give us another dimension to our play, & tie up defenders for others to score as well as providing a whole new outlet for goalscoring.

Torres touch & ability are fucking gash.

It's confidence, striking is very much about it, hence why Demba fucking Ba is currently the Premierships most prolific striker ever (goals per minute played).

Torres hasn't lost his ability & neither has Carroll.

That's just blatant nonsense.

It isn't. I saw Michael Owen miss sitter after sitter when returning from injury as he took a fair few games to get his confidence back.

It happens to all strikers at some time, Shearer too, hence why most strikers goals come in clusters.

Most of Carrolls attributes we saw at Newcastle arent there now, you think they've just vanished?

I just dont see it, the lad had a purple patch we jumped on it. It didnt work. Do you know the biggest thing for me last night. He's playing against his hometown club has the opportunity to prove and shove the disgraceful chants down there throat. And what does he do... fuck all. He moped around that pitch all night. I watched him all game just plod around like he didnt give a fuck. He's done this all twatin season. At least look like ye wanna get out of tgis rut. It was telling after bellers first that rather than celebrate hes bollickin carroll shoutin "get fuckin there"

That first touch of his last night when Gerrard dinked it through to him in th box will stay with me forever. He is fucking shite.

At least it was on target 😉

Dirk has even less first touch than Carroll, but he compensates by looking as if he is keen to win the match. Carroll never looks that bothered about anything.

i'm not even sure that's true. possibly their first touches are similar, but dirk is miles better in possession in general because he's much less awkward and more mobile/quicker on the turn etc.

carroll is fucking dismal technically.

Rubbish.

FFF is spot-on in this thread.

I must admit to not having seen much of Carroll playing for Liverpool however from what I have seen, he looks shorn of confidence. A couple of goals and he'll be a different player.

The centre forward who made his England debut so impressively is in there somewhere.

Yep. Sorry FFF but you're just absolutely wrong about Andy Carroll.
All of this nonsense about needing time and confidence does not explain why he looks absolutely talentless out there.
Even strikers on a drought show signs of brilliance. Andy Carroll is a horses ass. Utterly utterly shite.
We need to fuck him off and get a real striker otherwise we will be waiting another season or two to break back in to the top four.

Itd not rubbish though, i can name you at least 3 occasions were all carroll has had to do is use his 35 million pounds worth of technical ability to put the ball in the net and has failed. Its had nothing to do with the service.

To some degree I have felt they Andy really never agreed with the circumstances that brought him to us. It is as if he doesn't want to be here and he is being passive aggressive in his rejection of the club.

Pfft, is he fuck. I cringed reding through his posts above. All hope, possibilities, how he's been unlucky, needs Gerrard around him, and here's some references to Alan Shearer, Torres and Michael Owen and the dry spells they went through in their career. Fucking spare me.

Those players did indeed go though a dry spell. Carroll has only ever gone through one fucking streak, the rest of his entire fucking football life is one big dry spell. Because he is absolutely diabolical. Look at him playing football and tell me youre not mortified every time you see him. He is awful, a million miles away from being good enough for us, and it's an embarrassment that he's in the same side as players like Steven Gerrard.

He's 22, you act like he's 27 and been mediocre for years. He's played first team football for a year and a half before joining us and was good the whole time. My point is anyway that your arguement that he's shit because he's only had one good patch can easily be countered in the fact that he's only had one bad patch.

My biggest problem is that he always comes back far too deep, there was a point yesterday when Drowning wanted to play a cross and he wasn't anywhere to be seen and their was a huge awkward pause in the play. That is what really fucks me off, if he really is the one trick pony he's made out to be he really needs to get the fuck in the box and do his trick. If he starts doing that he might have some success and gain some confidence and then you know might even look like he's slightly worth the ridiculous amount he was bought for, doubt it'll happen mind.

There's no getting away from it, the problem we Carroll-believers have in justifying our faith is based almost entirely on the potential we see rather than his record. What I see is a young lad who has a shot like a bullet with both feet and obvious strength in the air. He is awkward to play against and yes, he has technical ability. He has taken a massive step-up this year...probably a step too far too soon...but he's ours now and in Gerrard we do have a player who can and will bring the best out of him. The Torres example is a good one. He's never been more prolific for club or country then when he played with SG.

So yes, goal for goal, game for game he's not provided anything like a return on the investment but he will.

first off I will say I don't really rate carroll, he has very little of the things I want and expect a striker to have but what I will say is carroll is far better than what he is currently showing. he is one of the best headers of the ball I have ever seen and he absloutely monstered us way at newcastle (that said so did cruch for s'hampton).

when gerrard came on he gave carroll the type of service he has been lacking and crucially the type of service he enjoyed at n'castle.
bottom line we saw what carrolls strengths were before we bought him, purchased him and even purchased a player to give him the type of service he enjoyed at newcastle...and then didn't give him that type of service. carroll is what we is and I think we as a team are guiltly of not giving him the type of service that would play to his strengths.

we do it all the time as well, for example we buy strikers and then play them in wide areas and then moan when they don't perform like barnes on the wing.

we if play to carroll's strengths he'll score, if we aren't prepared to play to his strengths then we should sell him because if we're expect him to pull wide and stretch teams or drop deep and play between the lines, well, that shit just ain't gonna hapen.
