Brendan Rodgers has backed Rickie Lambert to be a success at Anfield this season.

The Reds returned home on Tuesday after taking part in the club's two-week US tour, during which time they faced opposition in the forms of AS Roma, Olympiacos, Manchester City, AC Milan and Manchester United.
With Lambert featuring against such high-calibre opponents throughout this period, Rodgers is convinced the club's new No.9 will have an important role to play in the coming season.
"I think with Rickie it's just the adaptation period of coming into a new club," said Rodgers.
"There are new pressures and he's still getting his fitness. A lot has happened to Rickie in a short period of time - moving his family up, travelling away, getting used to the players and how we work.
"I have no doubts about Rickie. He knows he's not going to play every week but he will play a specific role for us in certain games. I'm sure he will do that really well."
Reflecting further on their time away, Rodgers revealed he is pleased with how the club's pre-season preparations have gone, and feels the squad has benefitted immensely ahead of the Premier League campaign.
"I think the players and the staff have been magnificent," he said.
"There's been a lot of travelling but we've been able to get a lot of great work in.
"The facilities have been excellent and we've played five games against very good opposition.
"The players have got fitter and stronger and it's been great for the new boys to settle in with the group.
"We've obviously got a few players to come back, but we're on course for where we need to be for the first Premier League game against Southampton.
"The players will rest and recover for a few days, and then we'll get back into it towards the end of the week to prepare for a big game against Borussia Dortmund at Anfield on Sunday."

Does that make @Modo feel better?

Still think he'll get us at least 10-15 goals. He's miles better than Moses and Aspas combined

Perhaps we bought him to be 3rd/4th choice and he knew that

That's probably true.

It's just that we haven't signed our 2nd/3rd choice yet. With a week and a bit to go until the start of the season and our first choice injured.

Lambert may have to play a lot more than intended.

Sturridge is meant to be fit for Dortmund, so we'll see. Ideally we'll wrap a deal up over the next week

The only way to reconcile this move is to be convinced that he must be an improvement on aspas, as such he has improved the squad, but expectations need to be realistic!

We might as well bring Origi in straight away. As things stand, he'd easily play 25 games for us this year.

There's also the question of what games a third/fourth striker plays in.

They're often the first few rounds of the domestic cups or against the lower tier premiership sides.

In games such as those it pays to have a player who knows exactly how to play against them & what to do expect, rather than hoping a young foreign player can somehow learn from the experience of playing against Grimsby on a Tuesday night in the pissing down rain on a pitch more suited to growing crops than passing a football.

He cost about £5m and scored 15 goals last season, he's back up, everyone knows he's back up, the manager has said he's back up. He'll play between the lines and as a target man, depending on what's required. I don't know why people are acting so shocked that he's not suddenly morphed into a multi million standard World Class player, or that he's not scored a bucket load in preseason (who has? And what does it mean, other than fuck all?).

Oh well, at least Modo has a new English whipping boy, eh?

EXACTLY. FFS.

Most people seem to be of the opinion that Origi is nowhere near ready, then there's the fact that we're actively looking to sign one over the next three weeks. Seriously, what's the point? The lad will come in with the weight of replacing Suarez and get criticised all over the shop for not being ready. Patience is a virtue.

People complain about not having enough strikers. LFC buys striker. People complain that striker will play too much.

U wot m8

I agree. The longer we don't have a Suarez replacement the more strange loaning origi becomes

How does that even make sense?

He scored 5 goals for Lille last season, in 30 games. We're talking about a second striker here to play if Sturridge is out. If Lambert with 15 goals in the league is not good enough, Origi with 5 in 30, in a weaker league is an answer?

He's fine where he is. He should be given time and space to develop without the crazy pressure of having to back up a 20-goal scorer right away.

You're missing the obvious here, 5 goals in France is worth more because, well, it's not England and he's not English. He's foreign, quick and infinitely more fashionable than a 32 year old veteran who knows the league & loves the club.

No it doesn't make Modo feel better because we've pretty much bought a 3rd/4th choice striker without having a 2nd choice striker.
Sturridge will get injured. So, no until we sign another striker we'll have Lambert up front and that fucking scares me atm.

Faith my friend.

Didn't the manager say we were in for one.. don;t we have 75M in waiting plus Remy Money..

Are we not about to get GBP14 M for a squady?

This isn;t the LFC of 2010-2012 anymore.

update that database. Look at the stadium that's coming..

(Pretends to be penelope cruz) "ooopen your eeeeyes"

Yeah I had faith two seasons ago, and we almost bought Dempsey.

Exactly, two seasons ago, when we were driving a banger of a car, and we had moths flying out of our pockets.

Update that database. Drink that optimism in

Don't lecture me on optimism, I said that we could win the league last season.

It was obvious from the get go that Lambert is going to be a backup option. I suppose the issue is that most probably expected us to have signed a more direct replacement for Suarez by now.

The season starts in less than two weeks and we've got one striker with injury niggles and another that looks woefully out of sorts. I don't think there is anything wrong with a showing concern at this point (whilst being aware that there is still ample time to sign a striker that will make us all happy).

Of course he knew he was never going to be starting every week. From Suarez to Lambert? Come on.

Yeah I had faith two seasons ago, and we almost bought Dempsey.

He gets a somewhat unfair rep around here. Ended up with 7 goals and 4 assists in 29 league games for around what we paid for Lambert this season. If we got that production from Lambert this season, I'd be satisfied.

Besides, he could've saved you from having to watch your all-time favourite Liverpool winger down the right / left week-in week-out. 😀

anything over 7 or 8 goals from lambert and i will be a little surprised and very happy .
