World Class

Scoring goals for a start.
Cissé, Baros, Crouch were not world class and they scored more than Suarez.

If you need support from another striker to score more goals, you're not a world class striker.

But thats a world class striker. The OP was whether he was world class or not. Lots of world class players don't score goals.

sure like world class holding midfielders. I had my problem with hamann but even I'll admit he was world class. however suarez plays in a FORWARD, name a forward who is considered quality that doesn't score his fair share of goals.

He has more goals than Robinho and Lavezzi who play in better teams in a weaker league.

Arguably they are.
Any suggestions who we should replace this average, non scoring trouble maker with so?
Bet we get fuck all worthy suggestions.

ross wants rid, not me. I'm saying suarez is currently a quality player but not world class and only goals and consistently will elevate him to that position.

if nothing else, we'd be well run if you were in charge, fighting relagation but well run.

Let's face it, if we'd sold Gerrard a couple of years ago we'd have been able to replace him with someone like your precious Martinez, whereas now we're contemplating replacing him with absolutely fuck all. I'm not completely sure I want the club to be run on those lines, with ZERO regard to loyalty, but the one thing it wouldn't lead to is poor results on the pitch. Just in the last couple of years we've hemorrhaged about £50m of talent in Gerrard, Carra and Kuyt which will now have to just be written off. I honestly don't think we can compete if we carry on like that.

Suarez is a world class footballer but at this stage an average goal scorer

Not what we need as our main man, we still do not have that top striker.

We have replaced our top striker with two average goal scorers, this is our season

Why is Suarez being made into part of the problem?

He's the solution to our problems - if we had a few more players of a similar calibre and ability to him playing for us we wouldn't be sat where we are in the table, having just lost to West Brom..

Likewise - If he was playing for any of the sides above us, he'd have scored and created more than he has with us..

Suarez is striker and main factor to define a (world class) striker is goals.
He doesnt score enough goals hence he's not world class (yet)

I have no problem with kuyt and carra being moved on but I happen to think gerrard can be as effective as he's ever been in the correct position.

He's more a forward than a Striker.
He was bought to play with Torres and it's not his fault he has had to plow a lone furrow upfront most of the time.

Well I think you're totally deluded if you really think that, but even if it was true it's still missing the point. Gerrard (or imo the player he was 2 years ago) will at some point soon have to be replaced. That is undeniable. Doing so with £25m would've been very hard; doing so with nothing is impossible.

I don't want rid, but i'd happily sell if someone wants to pay world class money for him.

The idea that Suarez's awful finishing isn't at all to blame for our predicament is laughable. He might be better to look at than the rest but hes still culpable

I think Rosco needs to behave. Suarez is the only player at the moment capable of getting fans on the edge of their seat and possesses that 'winning mentality', which is something a lot of our players lack. If we had a team of Suarez' we'd be strolling to a league title. 14 goals, 10 assists in a total of 35 games is quite good for someone who very rarely hits penalties or free-kicks, like van Persie, Rooney, Aguero, Ba, Yakubu do for their respective clubs. Does league form only count to make his stats appear worse. Shankly spoke to Keegan about dropping metaphorical hand grenades all over the place, Suarez does the exact same thing in the way he plays, he creates havoc, but no one is there to clean up the damage caused. We can't offer him Champions League football and he hasn't made peep about moving elsewhere, which shows his loyalty to the cause. Just be bloody glad we've got him. Ask yourself this, would you like him playing against you?

I'm a firm believer in club > player.
But if Suarez is sold against his will....

Excellent post.

If we were to get someone with Premier League and England experience like Lee Hendrie, someone who we know has worked with senior players such as Downing, then I'd fuck him off.

So having replaced our only capable attacking player with another capable attacking player ( once more leaving us with only one quality attacking player) where do we go ?

Have you heard any particular details then Sunny? As in potential club and who might be driving a move etc?

Personally I'd be pretty nervous about selling him, even for £40m+, because we've already got enough problems in the squad to deal with without creating another, and trying to do too much at one time is always going to make life diproportionally difficult. Suarez is 25 so IMO we can easily afford to hold onto him for another couple of years and have him help the side through a rebuilding phase: I think on balance we'd probably be better off doing that and risking a slighlty lower fee in 2 or 3 years than cashing in now.

personally I think we should be grooming our talented youngsters to fill the shoes of the more expensive and experienced seniors.
gerrard has at least two years in him in which time jonjo will have matured enough to step into that role. the players we should be concerned with getting are players that doesn't currently exist at the club, i.e. quality wingers.
why is the point of spending a fortune on the academy and talented youngsters if we don't believe they'll ever be ready.
selling gerrard is going to give us, what? 10 at MOST. we're better off using his experience and raw ability in the final third.

It sure is a tough one. I mean on the one hand if we were good we wouldn't be bollocks, but then if we weren't bollocks we'd be good. It's a massive risk rebuilding this squad, it's like a huge game of kerplunk, or even jenga if you're posh. Remove one vital element such as Suarez and those 46 precious points could be as little as 45 or even 44.
