Going too far, no?

You bought him Rodgers, talked him up, said he was "worth the gamble", and applauded him as he shanked one into the stands away to Spurs. To now claim he doesn't work for us, well bit rich I feel, didn't you know the type of player he was 6 months ago? Accept some fucking responsibility.

'Having worked with Mario during the time he's been here, we've seen that he's a player who is better in and around the box, so that level of intensity and pressing isn't a part of his game.
'But you try to get the best out of the players that you have, and the qualities that they have, so that's something that we'll focus on."

Exactly.

Dejan Lovren "suited our style".

you couldn't have crowed from the rooftops any fucking higher when you got him. And now look at the cut of that.

Works both ways Brodge.

It does but not when you are trying to save your ass from the sack.

Everyone could see it was a fucking wank signing, a gamble at best.

I'd lay extremely heavy odds that Balotelli was forced on Rodgers by the committee though. Less than a week before the signing Rodgers said in an interview that Balotelli would not be playing for LFC. There's a fair bit he does have to answer for, but I'm not at all sure the Balotelli fiasco's on the list.

Yeah, I'll go with this.

Lovren and the shambolic defence are his problems though.

Yes, I really dislike that kind of public talk. It was clear what kind of player he is. Deal with it. Work with it. There are some absolute bastards out there as top rank professional players. Mario seems a decent enough guy. He's just not what everyone wants. But he merits a fair amount of respect.

After it was clear the club had little interest in Bony, openly backed the signing because I felt his goals to game and level of talent made him an attractive deal, but it was always clear he wasn't going to replace Luis Suarezs work rate upfront and to expect him to slot in seamlessly without the attacking midfielders having to adjust is just absurd. I still think he'll do well when Sturridge is back. Mario is the type of player you sign when you're content with what you've got and have settled side. As much as Mario hasnt succeeded here, you do have to consider some of the shit service which was served up at the start of the season. Thankfully that's now improving, and with that, so are the prospects of Marios Liverpool career.

Yeh its a bit pathetic, why even mention this? Sure have your reservations in private, but no need to publicise them. Mario has done little wrong whilst hes been here, yet when still cant get the best out of him, funny that.

He is crap though.
Yeah he is. Grade A modern player, shite on grass, ace on twitter. He'll probably play for Ajax, Bayern, PSG, Juve, Barca etc. after us, retire with 350 million in the bank and you won't be able to remember a game he played in.
As for Rodgers, he must be loving this transfer committee, zero accountablility. They made me do it your honour. Not getting at him or anything but how can you possibly lay blame at his door when you (and I mean not 1 fan out there) don't know what he's personally sanctioned or not.
All a bit stupid if you ask me, which you didn't but there.

Balotelli was never suited to our style of play. Never understood why we got him and lambert. Both are shit.

FSG like to pick up cut-price players with ability who also have troubled histories, and get value out of them by resolving their issues. I reckon that the committee chose Balotelli and, if so, that this is probably one of the reasons why. There's a saying I've always liked that "A camel is a horse designed by a committee" and this whole sorry nonsense is a good illustration of that. Balotelli isn't "sh!t" but we should never, ever have gone for him.

Disagree about Lambert. He's a 4th choice who's had to be pressed into service more often because of problems elsewhere in the squad. I don't think he's "sh!t" either, and IMO we'll still get decent use out of him for a season or two if we can get the squad sorted out properly.

Well, if its true that Rodgers had a choice between Eto'o or Balotelli then a lot of the responsibility is off his shoulders.
But the defence on the other hand. All on him.

I fully understand Lambert - he was a good pick up on many levels. Borini's refusal to go during the summer window certainly caused some issues in the squad - particularly the frontline.

As for Mario - I was ok with signing Balotelli back in July so long as we signed Eto'o as well. Both Sturridge and Eto'o suited our style and approach.

Balotelli could certainly provide a different kind of dynamic and I thought he could be a good signing. As Jules says, he was a cut price big name with undoubted talent hindered by personal issues. Unlocking that talent by helping the person is very much FSG's thinking.

I think Mario would actually play a different brand if he were part of the excellent movement that we see going on at the moment. He really isn't a target guy and using him as such just makes him statue like. I think he'll move more if the rest of our frontline are moving - rather than the other way around.

To me this is similar to Martinez at Everton not making changes.

It's a public statement that says 'look, this is what I have to work with, someone might think it's boss, but not me, I need better. Oh look, the transfer window is about to open, what a coincidence'.

Balotelli is a good player, he just needs to be motivated and in the right system, I.e not 1 up top. I don't think Rodgers would have played him at all that way either if he had Sturridge fit, but it is what it is.
Last season people were all crowing how great Henderson was, what a fucking brilliant midfielder he was and how Rodgers had turned him round into an uber player. Now he's 'shit' again. Fans are fickle. Balotelli and Henderson didn't become bad players overnight, hopefully they'll both regain their form playing for us. Same goes for Lovren, Allen, Sakho.

I think it's six of one, half a dozen of the other though. You don't go from saying you are not interested in signing a player one week, to signing him a few weeks later. I think it was a deal that was put on him because we were running out of options. Rodgers probably looked at it then as a project type signing, rehabilitate and work him into the side. Mario is beyond redemption though, if Mourinho can't sort him, no one can, let's face it.

But Rodgers and the mysterious committee made a hash of identifying a key attacker, we've signed some good players, but we're well short of fire power, so blame deflecting is nonsense. Just hold your hands up and say you fucked up, people will reason with you better for it.

I don't know how Rodgers can hold the dressing room together when he goes about saying shit like this in the public nearly all the time. He's made himself look like a complete hypocrite for example in the way he's talked up Balotelli in the past, the insistence that young players should be given time, space and rest to develop, and in the utterly brutal way he's spoken about Borini.

[article]Rodgers added: ‘We have seen it’s not really his game (to press defenders and run). Working with him for the period of time he’s been here, we have seen that he’s probably someone who’s better in and around the box.
‘So that level of intensity and pressing isn’t part of his game. But you try to get the best out of the players you have and the qualities they have.
‘That’s something we will focus on. The most important thing is that he is now available and adds another player to this squad.’

We needed a striker who was prepared to run and create space like studge and luis used to.

Mario comes short too often and has a lazy style, good technique, just not suited to our style

Agreed, but the lads are right. Its not very lfc, the way brendan is throwing him under the bus
