This new striker....

I wouldn't sign an out and out striker. I want an attacking player that can interchange and be comfortable out wide and through the centre. Our system is fluid, and players pop up everywhere. Sterling, Sturridge, Coutinho, Markovic, Lallana, etc, are all players who are comfortable anywhere really in the final third. The new attacker should be of a similar ilk.

You want Jay Rodriguez then

it's not easy to get top quality and of course the Remy deal fell through but after spending 80m you wouldn't think we'd still be worrying about getting a striker in .

Rodgers believes the likes of Sterling , coutinho , henderson etc will increase their goal tallies and while i believe sterling will , the others i am not as confident about .

Whilst I too am a little nervous that we haven't got at least one more striker yet I appreciate the club are trying and but for bad luck we'd already have signed Sanchez or Remy. However when it comes down to where the goals are going to come from within the rest of the team I have to keep pointing to this thread since the subject keeps coming up time and again !

Well, luckily for me, I set my targets really low, even more so for the 2nd and 3rd strikers:

Centre forwards = 35 (Sturridge = 20; Borini / Remy + Lambert = 15)
Wide forwards / Attacking mids = 22 (Sterling = 10; Coutinho + Lallana + Markovic + Suso/Ibe/Teixeira = 12)
Centre mids = 12 (Allen + Henderson + Can + Lucas + Gerrard)
Defenders = 6
TOTAL = 75

Surely, there's some stop-gap player who, with Lambert, could score about 15 goals? I'm not asking for the moon here - just A + B = 15. How hard is it to find a striker like that? Even Dempsey + Defoe scored 18 goals, and Borini + Wickham got 12.

Ings ?

It doesn't really look like they planned the sale of Suarez very well. Much as I like the direction our owners are going in. Remy wasn't ever going to be enough all by his lonesome - I was thinking Remy plus a Suarez replacement.

Now I don't see either, and with money not an issue, I am surprised we are flailing about.

Either that or Bony and Reus are on the way

He still refuses to sign a new contract. Burnley fans still seem resigned to losing him but are amazed he's still there so close to the start of the season. It seems a no-brainer to me, he's proved he can score goals at Championship level, so even if he fails in the EPL he'll still be worth £4m-£5m to a Championship club next season. For £8m he's a steal and well worth the risk.

If we can't get suitable strikers, maybe it is a good idea to loan Dempsey / Defoe / Donovan on a loan like Lampard's situation? then try again in Jan

Eh no. 🙁

Defoe and Dempsey did that two years ago; Dempsey went back to Fulham on loan last season and didn't do anything as far as I know (5 games, no goals). Defoe scored 1 goal in 14 games for Spurs last season... these guys are past it now. They managed to work 2 seasons ago but I wouldn't want us to go down that route.

I'm sure there are strikers around - I think it's just a matter of whether Rodgers fancies a stop-gap solution or a longer-term one. I'd actually take a scoring wide forward if no central strikers were available, and pushed Sterling to a striker position if needed. Someone like Dries Mertens (yeah cloggy, I know you hate his divey and whiney ways) would work for me, and I'd also trust Benitez's man management methods to alienate him at some point after his successful season at Napoli. 😀

If we're going to loan a hero from the MLS then surely it would have the be Terry Henry?

Va va voom!

There are 25 days of the transfer window left.

With 1 week left to start of the season, and if we don't win that game,

There's 99% chance that there's nothing in these Falcao stories.

But . . . people keep going on about how its not the FSG policy to make signings like this - etc etc. I do agree that it's not. But I also think FSG are clever enough to know when to break the policy if needed. A couple of years ago United spent 24 mil getting a 29 year old Van Persie. He then fired them to the title.

If FSG believe an investment in Falcao (or similar) will keep us challenging and in top 4 while Ibe, Markovic, Can etc develop, then they may feel it's a calculated risk worth taking. Is that not still "moneyball" in some ways?

We've also been linked with Muriel. He had an injury plagued season but the talent is deffo there

What injury has Muriel had?

He seems very reliant on pace. If that's been compromised then we should swerve it.

I echo the concern about the type of injury he suffered, but assuming it's not serious, I too would be happy to get him.

There are 9 days until the season starts.

I would like to think that Sturridge, Sterling, Markovic, Lambert and Coutinho, plus Ibe et al will offer us a decent forward line until we sign another striker. Which we will do. I should have been Remy, but now it will be someone else.
