I was just reading some comments in a the Pedro thread suggesting that the way forward is to buy around Sturridge and his injuries.

Sturridge is brilliant when fit but if the injuries persist when do we stop planning with him in mind?

Is this season key for Sturridge in that sense?

I think we have to stop planning with him in mind. We have to just buy on the assumption that we want the core of our team to look like this, regardless of Sturridge. The only thing we maybe have to consider is whether player X upfront is capable of playing instead of AND alongside Sturridge. Or we just buy around a player who's got similarities to Sturridge, so we've always got a like for like in that position.

Honestly I'd rather we stopped planning for him to be in the team now

When fit he can be a fantastic bonus to us, but really we should be trying looking for his replacement rather than understudy

It's a bit like when we had Rob Jones. He was a brilliant player but couldn't be relied upon to play enough games because of his paper legs. In the end clubs tire of paying these type of players big wages and move them on. It's a big year for Sturridge , he needs to play a decent amount of games to justify the wages he now earns. Got to give him credit though he has been putting the hours in , rehabilitation must be fucking tiresome, especially away from your family and friends , not to mention the rest of the team.
