It seems to me that he would be a ripe candidate for a knighthood. I just saw that he is auctioning his 1984 European medal with all proceeds going to the Marina Dalglish foundation - A quick check and the foundation itself has raised over 7Mill since 2004. I realise the King himself is not singularly responsible for that but couple it with his tireless campaigning for the Hillsborough families and that subsequent vindication. His dignity and compassion towards the families during that time - Not least he was not only one of finest players to play for Liverpool but Scotland as well and his success as a manager. Seems absurd he's not been honoured more.

I doubt the guy himself would really care - Still be ace for the guy imo.

Giving one to that egotistical prick Pele when he wasn't even eligible for one is some joke.
Yeah well done Liz.

He'd accept it, and it has nothing to do with the 'Palace' - it's a small committee with the likes of Graham Taylor on board, sifting through options and reporting back to bureaucrats in Downing Street.

Maybe Ancelotti buys it... he lost that final!

I thought he would accept it as well - Simply because it would raise the profile of a charity he clearly is passionate about.

It would, and that's part of it, but I reckon that fundamentally he'd accept because he's as classy as the day is long.

My father in law apparently turned down an OBE many years ago. While he did that on principal, the fact he lived in Strabane, Co Tyrone, meant that this had the added advantage of allowing him to retain his kneecaps for the remainder of his life.

The boxer Paddy Barnes recently accepted one and he's from the staunchly republican New Lodge in north Belfast.

Although a part of me thinks he accepted it to piss off a few loyalists, like Jamie Bryson, who will probably never get one.

I once met the very very cool Benjamin Zaphariah - Who received an honorary degree at my Uni when I graduated. I got the happy chance to chat at length with him and he kindly outlined his reasons for declining the OBE which I enquired about. He regaled me and my late Grandpa with a personal rendition of his poem 'Dubology'. I swear he even beats Captain Kirk for being the single coolest guy I have ever met.

Amazing @gkmacca - What an awesome video. Next time I'm up in Liverpool lets meet up. I'll buy you a fine glass of what ever tipple takes your fancy. Seems strange we've never met. You can regale me with your Kevin Spacey story and I'll tell you about the time I innocently walked in on Kristin Scott Thomas getting changed in an ITV disabled loo. 😉

You met captain Kirk? But he was born in the year 2233. What type of time traveller are you?

I've always thought a great deal of Kenny both as player and manager but he, his wife and family continue to go up in my estimation for the good work that they do.

For all his occasional contrariness he has his heart in the right place. Good to see him looking so well and on top form.
