Has this been posted yet? heat map for Luiz v Germany, at center back:

Ill disciplined. Probably rush of blood to the head to try to atone for his mistakes, thus compounding the problem.

I thought he had a great World Cup until the semi. He put in a lot of great tackles. But Christ what the fuck, your captain and best defender is out so you decide to go walkabout every other minute leaving Dante horribly exposed.

Honestly if I were Scolari I would've subbed him or just swapped him with Gustavo because that's who was having to try to fill in for Luiz every time he went for a wonder, which was every time Brazil had possession or the opposition came near him with the ball. On second thought I would have just subbed him because being in midfield would've made no difference to him.

Like you say what the fuck was he doing? Most 11 year olds hold a position better when you tell them where they're playing.

He wasn't great before that game either. He cost them the first goal against Croatia.

I think he gets away with complete derision because he's fairly cultured on the ball, can storm out of defence, and spanks a tasty free-kick.

But make no mistake, he's a truly awful centre back. In fact, he's not a defender at all - he's a 5-a-side player on a bigger pitch. He's one of the worst defenders I've ever seen on a football ground.

100% right. He also needs a fucking hair cut.

For the second goal, any sensible defender would have headed the ball out of play, not back to the Dutch forwards! "Here you are lads, see what you can do with this?"

He's incapable of even doing the basics right. The next minute, he's trying to burst into the opponents box, and obviously failing.
Mourinho and Abramovic must nearly have passed out when psg offered them 50mill.

Yes, Luiz is clearly not a defender. I'm not even sure he has enough positional discipline to be a DM. Nevertheless, in a sense he is a good player – good overall technique, excellent left-foot shot, physically dominant, a fighter and a leader. Perhaps his best position would be somewhere way further up the pitch – like a "defensive AM" role Sissoko used to do for us or something akin to Khedira or Chelsea's Ramirez nowadays. He is a big talent who's been coached wrong.

He would be great at Arsenal. Fantastic technique, weak mentality, experience at playing for "loser trophies". Sign him up Arsene.

I'm not sure he has a place on the field the way he plays, not many teams afford even a few of their players close to complete freedom and the ones that are granted freedom are really talented in an attacking sense. He's not good enough going forward to warrant freedom and he refuses to show positional awareness or the interest or urgency in getting back to defend needed for many positions.

He plays like a 6 year old.

He could do with a Phil Thompson or Pat Rice following and screaming at him for 90 minutes, or a dog shock collar.
