Rodgers

Just watched the clip. Fair play to Rodgers for laying the law down - some of those kids have probably never been spoken to like that in their whole lives before, much to their detriment. Not sure singling an individual out for praise when you're lambasting the rest is very wise though.

I can appreciate the viewpoint, but I think praising a young player is a fantastic thing to do. If he praised Gerrard or suarez, it'd seen obvious and blah, but to single out someone on the fringes and give him a boost, ahead of guaranteed starters would be sensational for Morgan.

He's worked with youth for years so I'm confident he knows what he's doing.

I also liked that he's told off sterling, yet still started him. He's showing he's telling the truth bu saying anyone can break into the squad.

Is it safe to assume then that Henderson isn't one of the best at training any more?

Could not understand what he said ;[

It was just a little talk to the players after what looked like a training game mate, he was telling the youngsters how their attitudes need to improve. The bit that made me chuckle was when he had a pop at Sterling, it went something like this:

Mr Rodgers: *Pointing at Sterling* "If you ever tell me to 'steady' when i say something to you again and you'll be on the first plane home"
Sterling: "I didn't say that"
Mr Rodgers: "You know what you said and i know what you said, do it again and you'll be on the first plane home".

Nothing much really, but i love seeing our manager acting all boss.

wow! 1st plane home is harsh if he lives and is born in England! 😉

Yes youngsters need to be put in their place to respect by listening to their boss without interruptions!

It was hard to hear but I hope Rodgers didn't go in there looking for something - anything - to object to, because a kid from Jamaica saying 'steady' is surely not disrespectful. If that kind of cultural confusion is happening, Suarez is in for another hellish season!

It was in the States, he wasn't being racist!

For once I don't agree. It was a kind of "there, there, old man, don't get your knickers in a twist" response from Sterling. At 17 you do not do that to the boss, even if you think he is overdoing it.

Wasn't he born in Jamaica?

I do not know Raheem's birth place nor his nationality.

Yes GK, I think Caribbean and Africans do respond with some word to encourage the speaker that they are in agreement! Did not know 'steady' is being used nowadays.

Let's agree to differ, Fabs. It isn't the praise itself I question (take the lad aside and give it by all means), but the fact that Rodgers gave it publicly to one of a group of young players while he was lambasting others - not calculated to make Morgan popular or do a lot for team bonding!

I genuinely don't know about Henderson. My guess is Rodgers will like his overall attitude, but won't wait for ever for him to grow a pair.

How is saying "steady" a cultural thing in jamaica? Its not cultural at all, especially in the caribbean.

Or he just doesn't think henderson is good enough, which wouldn't surprise me at all.

I just can't hear what the lad said, but I'd find it astonishing if an ambitious 17 year old responded to his first meeting with his new manager by saying something like 'easy there, old timer'. Sterling's worked with Borrell for a couple of years now, and Borrell would have twatted him if he'd sounded disrespectful to him, so I don't really get this at all. But the sound is too lousy to work it out.

In this context, meanings and gestures rooted in a particular hermeneutic milieu. What do you mean by it?

if i knew what hermeneutic milieu meant i might agree or disagree with you lol.

My description is nowhere near as complex, i look at it meaning where he was brought up, his roots.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with that. Sterling has improved immensley this season, so you cant fault Rodgers for his coaching methods.

He was laughing and joking with Sterling too at one of the reserve matches the other week too so clearly he's not alienating anyone, just managing the young boys well.

Although Kenny did both.😉

I don't think an accumulated 27 minutes constitutes giving him a go. Jamie Redknapp said yesterday that Kenny rated him very highly aswell which is strange as he didn't show it as he unfortunately persevered with Downing to his detriment. Carragher made 21 Premier League appearances last season, Coates made 10, now i'm a big fan of Carragher's for years and he's is one of my favourite ever Liverpool players but I think those figures should have been the other way round.

Look up how many League matches Carra and Coates started.

I said earlier this summer what would happen: young players who weren't quite ready last year will be just about ready this year, but when they get a chance it will be 'Kenny didn't trust them, this manager does'. They're a year older! Kenny brought Sterling into the squad, into training, gave him experience in the big match occasions, then gave him some time on the pitch. I'm sorry, but to just style it as 'he didn't trust him, Brendan does' is far too simplistic - and Rodgers would be the first to acknowledge that. It's not a pro-Kenny versus pro-Brendan argument, no matter that some are eager to make it so.

Correct.

It's easy to make these things suit your agenda when you want to, but if you want a stick to beat Kenny with this really isn't it.
