Tim Cahill demonstrates why we call them the Bitters.....

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill poured scorn on Liverpool's hopes of FA Cup glory after suffering more Wembley heartache.

The Toffees went down 2-1 in this afternoon's semi-final after throwing away a one-goal lead in the 218th Merseyside derby.

Liverpool have endured a torrid Barclays Premier League season and will be underdogs against Tottenham or Chelsea in next month's final.

Cahill said: 'I think it's going to be difficult for them. They've had an indifferent season and they've just got away with it today.

Tough break: Tim Cahill endred more Wembley woe as Everton lost to Liverpool 2-1

'A few decisions didn't go our way but I'll just say they've got a lot of work to do.'

Cahill had been hoping it would be third time lucky for him in the FA Cup, having been a runner-up in 2004 and 2009.

'This is sad because I've had two finals before in the FA Cup. And to now not get to a final, it's heartbreaking.

'But, as much as it is for me, I really feel for the fans because it was there - you could feel it and touch it - and even as players we didn't do it in the end.'

Cahill admitted Everton were architects of their own demise.

He said: 'They made some good substitutions and they scored two goals from two errors from us.

'As a team, we'll look at it, but we win together and lose together and that's the only way I can sum it up.

'It's a special group of lads and management and everyone really, really pulls for each other.'

Massive clanger: Sylvain Distin apologises to Everton fans after their loss

The turning point was a horrible 62nd-minute blunder by Sylvain Distin, whose blind backpass gifted Luis Suarez Liverpool's equaliser.

Cahill said: 'Sylvain's been our player of the season - that's the only way I can put it. One mistake doesn't sum up his season.

'He's been immense and, as a team, we possibly should've still been out there playing extra-time.

'We shouldn't have conceded the second goal, giving the free-kick away and defending the way we did.

'As for Sylvain, he's a top player and it happens in football. We've all been there at one stage in our career.'

Everton were ahead through Nikica Jelavic's fifth goal in five games at that stage, the former Rangers striker once again proving one of the best buys of the January transfer window.

Midfielder Cahill said: 'Jela's a top player, top player. Scores goals and good for the team.

Aye Tim, sure we'll not even mention the fact Everton's first goal was offside and the fact you should have been down to ten men before our second goal.

He seems to forget the fact their goal came from our mistake as well. I think he offside was marginal. Nottht it matters anyway, only the result is.

I'm sure he only had about half a toe offside or something. I think it was rightly given. The important point about their goal is that we gifted it to them. That aside they didn't really create a whole lot and I think we comfortably deserved the win in the end.

we upped our game but everton definately decided to protect their lead, a bit silly when they were controlling the game first half with their possession high up the pitch. gollum is a negative manager and would rather sit on a lead than look to double the lead and get some breathing space.

that said we did the exactly same thing in the league cup final v chelsea

I actually feel sorry for the Everton fans. They're side were so shit, I'd want to fucking kill them if that was us.

Nah, Jelavic nearly had his whole body in offside. It should have been disallowed, but it happens so quick with Carra kicking it in Cahill that you can understand how the linesman cant see it.

Cant wait for footy training tomorrow. One of the lads is a blueshite and I'm not going to say one word about the win just to annoy him even more.

I'm delighted that the Redmen stood up today and won in the face of adversity. We inevitably make things difficult for ourselves.

I wasn't happy with the starting XI but in the end we got the right result.

And we go marching on to Wembley!

Nothing like pointing the finger to hide our own issues is there Modo?
Why don't you take that dumb-ass list of managers off your posts for a start.

Erm, what the hell? Leave Modo be. He's allowed am opinion even if you dont agree

Yeah. Modo might have opinions some think are retarded, but hes a good red and NOT a WUM. People need to lay off the hate.
If our manager was Roy Hodgson every single poster would be posting like Modo.

Anyways. My post match thoughts are hazy.
The scouse hordes (Nessie, Pete, The Duck, Lee and Wrighty the bluenoses) descended on Anfield south and we went out and got kronked.
Great night out in Wycombe and now Misred is going to make everyone a fried breakfast.
And then.......gotta go to work.
MAY THE 5th BE WITH YOU....kinda.

Glad to see my lot descended on your house like a load of locusts

Hmmmm...

I thought it was a poor midfield from the off, I hate that flat four of Henderson, Downing, Gerrard, Spearing, it's so industrious and lacking any real invention (bar our captains occasional efforts).

Suarez too was poor and on the fringes until he got the goal. Though he and Carroll got little in the way of good, consistent service and Downing and Henderson struggled to penetrate and as usual, opted to try the early ball or tried to over elaborate and ended up losing possession.

Once Suarez was gifted the back pass he burst into life and he earned his crust by literally singlehandedly taking them apart there on. And that really was the crux of the problem with the lineup, he ended up pulling wide on the right and taking the game to them, something our wide options had been incapable of during the game. That's a problem we've had too many times down the years, a striker has ended up having to give us width and the ability to get in behind simply because our natural wingers weren't good enough to do so.

Carroll wasn't as effective as he has been of late, but he came up with the winner and that's where you repay the money and patience invested, even on a day when nothing is going right for you and the service is poor, you take one of the chances that comes your way.

Carragher does indeed look like he's on his last legs, I don't think Agger did him many favours and he too was a bit indecisive at times, though played out of position, criminally. We need to get back to Skrtel/Agger in the middle, it's formidable and easily one of the best partnerships around. Coates hasn't done alot wrong when he's played so he needs to be back up. Hopefully Carra will get the much rumoured coaching role at the end of the season that he so rightly deserves, as a true club legend.

So to sum things up, I thought Kenny had it wrong with the lineup, though we got away with it so I can't grumble too much, and we got one over on that shite. Maxi must wonder what he's got to do to start two games on the bounce.

PS. I believe Moyes was saying the entire country was behind them. Shame there own fans couldn't stick it out when it mattered. "People's Club" my arse.

If it bother you so much, here.....gone.
My opinion on the matter hasn't changed though and I doubt it will.
