No scousers in the team

Haha, its like self excluding from gambling. We'll have to get LTW accredited for social resposnbility

The real issue isn't that there are no scousers in the team but that Everton have developed all the good scouse players the last 15 years (although I can't actually think of any beyond Barkley and Rooney........surely there are others?)

So maybe there has actually just been a bit of a dearth.

Anyway, things are looking up on that front, cos we've had Flanagan come through and Rossiter and Arnold are both scousers and two of the best prospects in the country.

Liverpool have a shit reputation with bringing kids through the last decade or so.

Sheik said some stuff which is very similar to other things I've heard. I've spoken to die hard reds who've ended up encouraging their kids to go to Everton instead of Liverpool due to the way they've been treated.

All the signings at 14+ like sterling and ibe where treated like gold they said.

The people I've spoken to have all been with well younger kids. Everton seem to get them younger & keep them, whereas we seem to manage to alienate a helluva lot of the parents of the younger kids, at least local ones.

Also, you hear of a lot of kids moving over to Everton before their teen years, which seems to back that up too.

Macca or Sheik may have more accurate insights.

I don't understand...

He asked for his profile to be deleted as he was busy at work and the site is a distraction. LTW banned him for a month instead of deleting him

My lad was there for 9 months from the age of 6. I just felt they coached his natural game out of him but what do I know. What he learned could very well benefit him later on. He then spent some time with City and they placed more emphasis on getting the basics right.

I do believe a lot of kids are at the Academy because of who they know, rather than based on talent. My lad's team get invited to play against both Everton and Liverpool regularly and beat them on most occasions. I've seen far better players playing in Saturday and Sunday leagues but aren't picked up.

I've been told Everton will only take kids on if they're a certain stature.

I had a 6 week trial for Liverpool at Melwood when I was 16. They called me in at the end and said sorry they wouldn't be taking me any further. I found out 2 months ago from my mum that they actually did want to sign me on a YTS but she told them to do one so I could finish my education.

*Sad face*

But if you had been a football star you wouldn't have met all us great blokes.
Smiley face

Plus once they realised I wasn't going to grow any more and end up as one of the smallest goalkeepers to ever play the game they'd have fucked me off anyway.

I dont see the issue.

Johnston and Barnes didn't really play togethor though. Not for any decent period of time, and not in "one of our best ever teams" either.

Banning doesn't stop Sean from looking at the threads, right? Just posting?

*waves @silversean* ARSENAL!!!

I'm still trying to work out who the Scot is in attack?

Dalglish surely.

Another player who didn't play in the same side as Barnes though. This is turning out to be 'one of the best sides ever that existed in oncy's head' only.

In terms of local lads coming through, I think we're slowly getting back to how things should be. Houllier alienated more and more local families with his battle against Heighway. Even diehard Reds were taking their kids to Everton rather than stick them into the oblivion that was our academy. Much the same happened under Rafa. Parents just didn't see any real way forward with us. When Kenny came back, that was one of the first things he sought to change. He gave McFarland all the support he needed to rebuild ties with local schools, local clubs etc, charming the families, loads of one-on-one meetings with parents and their lads, etc, and generally a huge effort was made to change our reputation. Inglethorpe is keeping that up. So - very slowly - we're turning that around. But we've pretty much lost a generation (or even two).

In an era when any gap can be filled with twenty million quid it's actually more difficult for local kids to play for Liverpool than foreign ones.

Take Markovic. He played for Belgrade at 16... If he was from Liverpool he'd be in some youth team behind Sterling and Ibe. But because he got first team experience young he became someone we wanted.

Weird innit.
