The most salient point is that nobody knows what the fuck happened behind the scenes so there will always be an argument for every theory.

*Mr Obvious*

far be it from me to question Jon's sources, but i really struggle to believe we offered him a fat new contract in the summer. if it's true it's true, fine, but it flies in the face of all the talk in the press over the last few months that he was basically considered for sale at the right price. ok, you should always take the media line with a pinch of salt, but still, there's often no smoke without fire. i also think the henderson signing suggests we preferred to cash in on meireles.

This is the new "Alonso: Whose Fault ?" isn't it ?

Sad he's gone but can't be fucked arguing about it.

That is true but couldn't the smoke have been released by Raul's agent? If what Jon's source says is true that would seem the obvious answer to me.

Still a little upset with the fact he has gone...

What truely pisses me off though, is the fact that some people constantly try and undermine the effect he had on our first team.. The difference he made when playing was significant.

We have let another technically brilliant Footballer who plays Football the beautiful way go... but thats okay.. We have Carroll to make up for it. For fucks sake.

The parallels with Xabi are quite apparent IMO.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be discussed.
I meant that it's one of those subjects that break out at a moment's notice, during another thread (Alonso, Lucas, The Dirkilizer) and take over, again and again, til the end of time......

possibly, i'm far from an expert on how these things work. i'd be a bit sceptical that propoganda from one of the parties could so totally influence pretty much every media outlet's line on the story; maybe i'm naive, but why would it? what interest would all these journalists have in printing the lie, when presumably they could fairly easily have found out the truth, or indeed already knew it?

We were shit for 6 months with him the squad. We were good for 6 months with him in the squad

The difference? Kenny

Can avb get the most out of him? Who knows, but there's no point getting menstrual about his departure. Kenny made spearing look world class ffs

yep, I'm already finding it quite tiresome.

When we finish champions & Chelsea are 3rd we'll see Kenny was right though.

While I didn't initially agree with Kenny British only transfer policy, these type of happenings at the club make it hard to have issue with it.

what's carroll got to do with anything?
if the manager didn't fancy him then you have to get as much money for the player and move on. maybe kenny thought if we are going to gleen any points away from home we need as many of the creative players as possible to stick their boot in. you can sympathise with the logic behind that. when meireles was here he was used out wide and was used behind the striker, neither roy or kenny trusted him to play through the middle, that's quite telling. we now have henderson on books who is going to give you quaility crosses from a wide area and we've added bellamy our poll of strikers so there is no way ming would be used as a support striker.

I'm sure kenny would have liked to keep the player I just think he thought the player was worth bending over backwards for and when you consider ming had dropped down the pecking order than you can see his point, as for selling to chelsea, the second he handed in a transfer request it was all about shipping him off to the team that would offer the most money and chelsea were the only team with an offer on the table.

Chelsea midfielder Raul Meireles has declared he did not choose to leave Liverpool for a bigger salary.

Official: Meireles signs for ChelseaChelsea make £15m bid for Raul Meireles

The Portugal international signed for Chelsea in the very last hour of the transfer window for an undisclosed fee after just one season at Anfield.

Meireles had become a fans' favourite at Liverpool, but he wanted out after the the club's summer rebuilding programme pushed him to a peripheral role.

The former Porto midfielder said he cannot give out all the details about his decision yet, but stated his transfer was not money driven.

"These are things that happen in football. I can only say good things about Liverpool, it was a fantastic year," he told RTPN.

"People think I am a Judas and that it was because of the money. It was not because of that, I will explain it later, things are still fresh.

"It all happened very fast. I am not the only one to blame for my exit from Liverpool, but I will never stop loving the club and I have great friends there."

Meireles conceded that coach Andre Villas-Boas played an important role in the move and added he hopes to claim silverware with his new team.

"I was very happy with his interest in my signature. The most important thing is to give my all every time and try to help Chelsea win titles."

so yet another player to leave the club , swears he loves us , it wasn't his fault he left , he'll explain all some day but it's not the time now .

So what's the big bad thing the club did ? to me it's decide they wanted to go with other players and so he was sold to balance the books . Why can't people just say that ?. It maybe harsh on the individual player but get over it .

And you can't play for Chelsea and still love us .

He started on the bench, he could have fought for a place, when all's said and done he handed in a transfer request. He's a coward, fuck him.

Your point appears to be that British players will not abandon Liverpool in the same way that Xabi, Torres and Meireles have done. It's that which I dispute, because it's absolute bollocks.
