Liverpool v Fulham - Match thread

What could possibly have been lost by playing Sterling? He's ready and was our most dangerous wide player when he came on. Pace, trickery and can hit a cross.
I think Kenny, rightly, feels it would be better to put him into a game we are winning. Sadly that doesn't seem possible these days.

This game should serve as an indicator of how poor our transfers were and of course how we need to strengthen the team.
It should also show you what I guess the majority already know...that we're a one man team.
Two man team at times.
Yeah Skrtel and Agger are huge problems aren't they?

That one man is Suarez innit?

6 points in 9 home games this year.

7 goals in those 9 games.

Fuck me. Sack everyone. Have a mysterious fire in the office where the contracts are held. Make sure all the staff are in there while it burns.

No, because again, the second string doesn't mirror the first team in any shape of form, we have no like for likes and no reasonable strength in depth. We're also being incredibly over-cautious with lads like Sterling, while Downing and co offer the fucking inevitable.

Ahhh but I said before teams were announced.

We've performed well this year in several games with a good team.

It's the belief that he would pick the wrong team today, or his tactics were poor. Is that not worrying?

I just hope that Kenny doesn't look at Skittles own goal as an excuse to play Carragher on Saturday. Not that he would need one.....

far be it for me to tell kenny his job but

1. we defended way too deep, the gaps all over the pitch was shocking.
it's not a suprise we couldn't pass for shit. in coates and srktel we definately could have defended 20 yards higher up the pitch it's not as if fulham had a speed merchant up front. it sad that fulham away from home have the courage and organisation to defend high away from home and we didn't in our own back yard.

2. carroll was winning EVERYTHING so fuck knows why we weren't commiting more bodies to the attack

3. it as apparant very early that kuyt and maxi were isolated in wide positions so why didn't we attempt to go 4-3-3 or 4-5-1, 4-4-2 patently wasn't working.

simple tweaks that would have seen us use the ball better and crave open chances

Our home record is so shite it just makes me angry. Its beyond a joke, and even with an FA cup win I think Kenny will asked to step down.

FSG doesnt do nice, and this shambles with their money and how far behind we're falling from the top teams will make them act.

We didn't deserve to lose tonight. I thought we improved in the 2nd half, but Fulham defended very competently and we just couldn't quite break them down. It happens - even to Barcelona sometimes and we are no Barca, especially not this reserve-laden squad.

Positives: Carroll was great, Doni was very good, Spearing improved a lot after his horrible 1st half hour, Kenny made good sensible subs (yes, Enrique for Aurelio included), decent games from Coates and Kelly. Poor game from Skrtel (a worrying trend), Shelvey was not convincing for me, Maxi and Kuyt couldn't find the target and Downing mostly disappeared after a promising first 10 minutes after coming on.

On to the Cup final we go.

Course it is. I thought it was wrong from the off, but then we know what's in the squad, so whatever he picks we can pick holes in, more or less. A month ago we were all saying, "he's not playing Shelvey and it's not fair", now he's playing him and we're still failing, because the problem is more than one player, it's a group of average players, a few shining lights and too many players that just don't offer enough in terms of quality to take us the extra yard. In fact, a few of them drag us further below par. And then there's the lack of tactical edge, the edge and stupidity that cost us under Rafa, playing with zero pace in wide areas, zero intelligence upfront and too many yard dogs.

Calm down mate ... a) they haven't spent that much money (they put more into Crawford's contract than they've done into transfers) b) we've had a very poor year but weren't you banging on about 'luck,' 'posts,' '1 shot and goal,' 'wonder performances by goalkeepers' throughout the year? c) there's no point in hiring Kenny if we don't have a bloody good replacement who can have x years to mold the squad around the backbone.

And as we say year after year, we need x first 11 players ... No Elms etc ... Give us 3-4 starting 11 players and we'll be able to compete far far better.

It's LFC's money

Truth be told neil you could do a better job atm.

taking things from the other direction

1. kenny had to make wholesale changes or risk the team being dead on their feet for the weekend. we have no where near the depth of chelsea to ring in the changes with a big drop in quality.

2. kelly and aurelio are just back from injury so it's possible kenny used kuyt and maxi wide positions (rather than a front 3) to offer more protection but losing the movement and interplay.

3. maybe we defended deep as kenny didn't trust spearings and henderson' ability to sheild the defend so dropped back to compress the space between the defense and keeper.

just offering up explainations why it's 'possible' kenny did what he did

We need to spend about £100m to make us competitive which isn't going to happen. Time to start giving the kids a go, really invest in the Academy.

A worry was the way that our supposed better alternatives to our regular starting eleven didn't establish that as fact in any shape or form.
Maxi, Shelvey Kelly did nothing to suggest that they would offer a consistent improvement on the players they are supposed to replace.
Such is the strength in depth of our squad that we can now seamlessly replace most players in the first team without effecting it's levels of mediocrity

they are two years off and the position we really need to improve, central midfield, I don't see long term prospect there.
