CHAIRMAN Eddie Mitchell has confirmed Cherries would be in line for a cash windfall should former Dean Court youngster Adam Lallana be sold by Southampton.
Lallana, who
left Cherries for Southampton when he was 12, is rumoured to be a target for Newcastle with Toon boss Alan Pardew believed to be planning a move for the midfielder in January.
Pardew worked with Lallana during his time as manager at St Mary’s and a report in the Daily Mirror suggested he could be preparing to test Saints’ resolve with a bid of around £5million.
Saints captain Lallana, 23, who is under contract to the club until 2015, was named in the England squad for the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine in September.
Born in St Albans, Lallana and his family moved to Iford when he was five and he soon became a regular at a Monday night football club run by former Cherries youth team boss Terry Wateridge.
The youngster also became a member of Littledown Juniors and was invited by Wateridge to join the Cherries centre of excellence.
He was spotted by a talent scout from Southampton and an independent tribunal ruled that Cherries should receive compensation, with a nominal sum paid shortly after his departure.
Further stage payments were made when he signed scholarship and professional forms, while the tribunal also made provision for Cherries to receive 25 per cent of any future transfer fee should Lallana leave Saints.
News of the sell-on was revealed exclusively by the Daily Echo in 2008, with current chairman Mitchell confirming last night that the club still retained their interest.
Lallana, who still lives in Dorset, returned to Dean Court to make four appearances for Cherries during an injury-interrupted loan spell in 2007.[/article]
