The race

Honestly, maybe I'm being very simplistic about it, but the only performance that felt like a big disappointment this season was united. That sort of shit again in a game like this, and I won't believe we win the league.
Wait really?
The forest game didn't tick you off?

It did, but this united team are fucking useless. Forest are a good side, and it's united. We picked that game to be that fucking silly? I'm still pissed about it.
No no, one player player cost us that game.
The Forest game was a collective shambles.
Referring to the one at home

Without falling into hyperbole, the derby tomorrow carries massive weight psychologically for the race from here.

To have made the most of our game in hand and go into the weekend with a significant 9 point gap should have most of us feeling super confident at this point of the season.

A second loss on the bounce (even if it’s a wholly different side playing) and reduction in our potential lead to 6 and Arsenal will be smelling blood…even if I don’t ultimately think they have the consistency and mettle to catch us.

Just fucking win tomorrow…

I don't think it is hyperbole at all. It's a milestone game and we have to win.

I don't know why Havertz gets so much stick, he's always reminded me a lot of Firmino. People used to rip his goalscoring record too, but he made us tick. Havertz does a similar job.

If we had firmino, but we didn't have mane and Salah, then firmino would come under the same criticism. He did actually, and the whole "what is he, really."

Havertz isnt shit, but he's a shit firmino.

I said somewhere 2 - 3 seasons ago that I thought Havertz would be a great 9 in the old Klopp system. I rate him, but he is obviously under pressure with chances he misses. His scoring record is decent though the past 12-18 months.

If he is out, then that is huge. Arsenal get zero ability to rotate or even use subs up front for at least 4-5 weeks. They'd be using Trossard, Nwaneri & Sterling for that period. They might not have many tough games for a couple of weeks - but if that is their front three when to play Forest away (26 Feb), United away (9th March) and Chelsea at home (16th March) then we couldn't really hope for more.

I expect he'll be starting the Leicester game though - Arteta has done too many 'injury' updates that have yielded nothing. Saliba was meant to be out a couple of weeks ago and missed zero games.

Arsenal's injuries according to London Standard / PL Injuries and Gooner News

Martinelli - Being Assessed. No Return Date. Ruled Out (next game). March return.
Tomayasu - NRD. RO. Potential Return 15th Feb.
White - NRD. Potential Return 15th Feb.
Havertz - NRD. Being Assessed. 25% next game.
Jesus - Out for the season.
Saka - slated to return 9th March vs United earliest but could be as late as 1st April.

Confirmed by Ornstein. He's out.

Ornstein is on the take as well. All part of an Arteta evil masterplan.

Seriously though, Arsenal fans must be going apoplectic now with their failure to sign a striker in January. What were they thinking?

Wouldn’t that just make a mockery of playing a weakened team in the FA Cup then?
No because it was still optimal to go out to give us the best chance of winning. If we crumble because we are weak mentally I can live with that. If we crumpled because of injury or fatigue because we chased a fucky fantasy that was next to impossible anyway I’d be fucking livid. It’s all about the league first and foremost this season then the CL. Fuck the FA Cup when the league is within touching distance.

This leads to an epic meltdown I presume. For a month their forward line is Trossard - Sterling - Nwanieri

Crumbling because we’re weak mentally is better than because we’re tired or injured?

Fucking hell Dreamie that some position you’ve contorted yourself into.

Fowler is smiling down on us this season, and then some.

If we don't win it we're fucking dickheads and would deserve every single meme thrown our way. The players will never have a better set of circumstances to lift the league. This season is similar to many of United’s title challenges—they were often a very good side, often a brilliant one, but in many years, they were far from perfect but did enough to stay ahead of the challenges. There's no doubt in my mind that the surge in points totals in the Pep/Klopp era will prove an anomaly. Title winners/challenges will possibly never be as good and efficient again in our lifetimes, if ever. Good enough will do.

Absolutely. Arsenal now have a forward line that's like 5 ft 2

Not that he needs me to defend him, but again I'm not seeing what's so ridiculous about it.

Surely he just means that one of those outcomes is easily avoidable by prioritising the league, whereas the other isn't because it's the result of a fundamental weakness that was always going to undo us.

At his best and in form, Havertz can be seen as a budget Firmino. I get that he’s dealt a rough hand at times, but he'll always lacks the work rate and the creative, technical wizardry that Bobby had. Even with Salah and Mané alongside him, Havertz wouldn’t bring what Bobby brought to the party. There was a strange period about 8–10 years ago when every Bundesliga attacking prospect was hyped up as a superstar, yet very few seemed to acknowledge that defences in the Bundisliga were wild, with the goalkeepers as well protected as Epstein’s prison cell.

Havertz was always a better fit for Arsenal than Chelsea, though, and especially given all the upheaval and drama since he left. He made a smart call, IMHO.
