But seriously, Lallana is a decent player bit of a gamble imo.
I'd rather we pay premium for a top top player.

Lallana is genuine quality, defo good enough for us and for our ambitions, but we - or anyone else who wanted him - would get charged the Earth for him. There might be better value elsewhere.

Looks a quality little player and would fit into our system.

I wouldn't be sorry to see us making an approach.

Cheeky bid January... ?

Why would Southampton be interested in us making a low offer for one of the key reasons they have made the best start to the top League in their history?

The only way Lallana is going to go anywhere is for top dollar next summer

Not a fucking chance. He refused to leave them when they were in league 1 despite several offers. He'll retire there

That was a great goal, don't get me wrong, but the lack of effort in defence their is shocking, he only had to beat one fucking player, Huddlestone is the worst, any self respecting defensive midfielder would have sprinted into the space between Lallana and the goal as soon as he beat there number 6. Pathetic from Hull, glorious from Lallana.

Indeed! I thought that last night when I watched MOTD. All the Hull defenders did was just move away from the goal as Lallana was teeing up the shot. Not that I care - I have in my FF team 🙂

Southampton are flying high with a talented young manager and an owner willing to back them. If one of their key players is going to leave, it's going to take a massive bid, big wages and quite possibly at this rate, guaranteed Champions League football.

This league has got to be the worst in the world for clubs spending crazy sums of money on players having a good season or two (we should know that better than anyone). There is too much money in England for us to get involved in that kind of business.

We should continue to look out for undervalued players like Sturridge in England and do our main business in Europe where value for money is much easier to achieve.

On a side note, the trouble with Huddlestone is that he's a fool to himself - too lazy to make the most of his skill, too much of a wuss to make the most of his size. Hull, and Tottenham before them, have tried to turn him into a DM in an attempt to make the most of what he can offer. It'll never work.

I wonder how Southampton keep unearthing these players. It's clearly not luck. I doubt it's superior scouting. And I doubt their youth coaching set-up is any better than ours. I suppose their catchment area, with Pompey in the doldrums, is pretty wide, but that doesn't explain too much.

they have a massive catchment area with hardly any major teams between them and cornwall.

I know, but all the same, all clubs send their scouts everywhere, and it's rare for a local club to consistently keep the best local prospects. And where were all of these kinds of gems a few years ago? (Not these players specifically - they weren't born; I mean young players of such quality a few years ago.)

... and, apparently, Burnley, too.

I think Southampton just happen to have a fantastic scouting and coaching system. Even when it was in the lower leagues, Southampton kept producing very good players.

I was hoping for big things when we signed that coach Malcolm Elias from their youth set-up a few years ago, but it never worked out for some reason. Wonder where he is now.

Southampton at least used to do A LOT of almost scouting at Summer football youth camps in the area. The person who ran one I used to go to every school holiday would put names forward to Southampton (who presumably paid in kind for this!) who would then invite those along to big days of football matches and drills. I was once invited to one as a GK - mostly because I was already twice the height of everyone around me! I was in my own world back then with little thought about what joining a youth academy might mean and turned it down. It was a huge event though, and I imagine they still do this and pick up a lot of talent along the way e.g. Bale, Walcott etc.

So Bournemouth will get 25% of any fee?

Bet they're fucking praying Chelsea want to get involved
