Good signs...very good signs.

Missed the second half but he seemed to have done well when he came on.

Might finally have someone for that DM spot. Needs to keep it up though.

The boy has a set of balls on him, that's for damn sure.
That pass at the 3 minute mark...class.

I like what I'm seeing from him too ... He's got the rest of the season to really stamp his place in the first team rotation for next season.

Signed a contract last summer, don't know for how long though.
Apparently his contract is up during the summer, which is a bit weird.

Also, according to wiki he's 1.71 m (5 ft 7 in) that's impossible right?

It would be just typical if we finally got a top quality DM, just in time for Klopp to not play with one. Who was playing that role on Sunday? In a three man midfield as mobile and energetic as Can, Milner and Henderson maybe he thinks we don't need one, and they can all take turns, so to speak.

Klopp sometimes plays with a 3 man midfield in a straight formation.
However I do think he likes to have a defensive midfielder, considering the amount of games Lucas has played.

It's nice seeing a young player take his chance and adjust to top division football so well. Probably helped that Villa were hopeless but must be encouraging for the lad.

He also played quite well against a good West Ham side (twice). I think there is enough there for us not to spend £15-20 million on another outsider who may well not be the real deal.

He certainly deserves more chances this season. Pity he's not in the Europa League squad as he might have done well in that.

I think we need to sign a new midfielder regardless. Allen will leave and probably (hopefully) Lucas.

It's as if he's been cryogenically frozen and suddenly defrosted. It feels like years since he showed real promise, and now he's suddenly clicked. He genuinely loves the club, so it's nice to see him getting his dream coming true.

Another really promising outing for the lad.

I'm sure it's been said already, but he might just be our Coquelin who similarly had a couple of 'meh' loans at lower leagues before taking his chance with aplomb at Arsenal.

We fell so low that a youngster is exciting for us.
Sure he has a potential but once upon a time we had Xabi in midfield. Xabi was a central midfielder, he knew when a sideways\backwards pass is redundant and that the ball should go forward. Xabi was a top footballer. I want that, I want to get excited by that.

Strange comment.

Did you felt low when Gerrard and Owen broke through the ranks?

There have been some very promising performances from the younger players. Smith, Stewart, Branagan and Texeira have all done well.

Cant help but feel Rossiter has missed a real chance this season to play himself into contention.

Hopefully Klopp continues to give them time between now and the end of the season to see who can take a step up next season. Id much rather fill the squad with hungry young players than overpaid mediocre journeymen who hoover up the transfer budget without improving the first team.

I reckon Klopp will get rid of Lucas and Allen. And rightly so. Lucas has become painfully pedestrian, and Allen breaks down with an injury every time he starts looking decent. I'm almost sure Klopp will look to bring in a good DM. Thank fuck for that, it's been years since we've had one.

BTW, on Sunday we are playing a 2 man central midfield of Can and Henderson. Milner was wide right in a 4-4-1-1 / 4-2-3-1 of sorts, which I think is the system we'll be getting used to next season.

So I reckon the 2 central slots will be between the new DM, Can, Henderson, Stewart and Grugic.

@gkmacca
You think Rossiter will move ahead of Stewart?

Too early to tell but, imo it's going to be difficult if Stewart keeps playing well.

Maybe he was slightly disillusioned under Rodgers, and Klopp has given him a new lease of life.

I can see his point a little bit, given that it's utterly ridiculous to even compare the possible "breakthrough" of defensive midfielder Kevin Stewart - who is older than Emre Can - to the likes of Michael Owen or Steven Gerrard, who were two of the best players to ever play for Liverpool, and were obviously brilliant from the age of 18 or so.

Definitely.
I mean it's logical. Would you want to stay at the same workplace despite not having a chance of progressing?
I'm thinking no.

So if a manager comes along and says "show me what you've got" it naturally inspires the players.
In an ideal world our first teamers should be threatened by our "hungry" reserves.
But in modern day football a £10 million player is guaranteed his place.

Yes, as you say, if Stewart keeps it up it'll be a challenge. They're both versatile enough, defensively and offensively, to play in the same team, but there wouldn't be room for both in THIS team. I think Rossiter will want to stay and fight for a place but he's another one with a dodgy agent.

Yep, both players will have their contracts reviewed during the summer I think.

With the emergence of Stewart and the younger midfielders, we'll probably see the pool of senior squad players -- Lallana, Milner, Lucas, Allen -- shrink in favour of getting more reliable first-teamers and letting the academy lads fill the backup roles..

Allen seems the first name on the list of departees; Brannagan looks like he can take his place. Ditto Teixeira for Lallana. Lucas and Miler more likely to stay since they can fill two positions with Lucas able to deputize in defense and midfield, and Milner in centre midfield and one of the attacking positions.

I don't think Teixeira has shown he is anywhere close to taking over from Lallana, even if he's given more time. Lallana gets massive flak mainly because he cost a lot. Teixeira doesn't because he's younger and didn't cost a lot. But there's still a chasm between them in terms of class. Teixeira is certainly proving he's magnificent at falling down, but otherwise he's hardly challenging Lallana for his place. Give both of them a year to improve and then we'll see, but I doubt the verdict will change.

You're absolutely right. Teixeira hasn't shown enough but he needs more time I think. The little I've seen of him playing with Firmino and Coutinho gives me some hope. They speak the same language on the pitch, both figuratively and literally.

Lallana is a decent back up, but he was bought to be more than that. The clock is ticking on his part. If we're ever going to get some of the money we spent on him back we need to sell him pronto.
