This is a little hoard of rightness. He was a terrific player at reserve level who was MOM week-in, week-out; he always looked a class apart and was consistent. Anyone who says he is limited, with respect, has limited knowledge of the player. He played a variety of roles, and certainly wasn't a 'tidy' player who broke-up play. His shooting around the box was always a feature of his game, and his general creativity, as well as being an energetic player who could win the ball back.

[Bob Loblaw]

Great little player, a star in the reserves and tidy at the top level. His passing is vastly underated, he's a lot more than just a dm, would start every game with Gerrard and one of Henderson, Adam or Shelvey until the end of the season for me.

Id have him over Lucas too and not because I don't rate Lucas.

I'm not hoping for anything other than a win. Spearing is alright. He's got heart but I'm not that impressed.
If you're telling me that he could become as good as Hamann, Mascherano, Lucas or even Sissoko I'd say that you need to come back to earth.

It's not far-fetched to think he can become as good as a player who was sold for 7million during the summer.

When Spearing does what Momo did against Chelsea (without Gerrard) and in the FA cup final against West Ham (unsung hero) I'll give him his due praise.

Good little squad player imo. Strong tackler, good engine and a decent passer of the ball.

Not in Lucas' class in terms of ball retention and technical ability but that's not to say he's not a useful player in his own right.

Happy that we have him as it looked like his Liverpool career was all but over not so long ago.
