Ibe vs Sterling

I think it's a fair comparison.
How far do you think Ibe is from reaching Sterling's level?
Personally I don't think he's far off to be honest.
In terms of physique I'd argue that Ibe is better.
He's just as fast, he's stronger and bigger than Sterling.
Sterling shades it when it comes to technique but Ibe's shooting is a bit better imo.

I still think Sterling is the better player, but with a bit more experience Ibe might just surpass him.

Ibe is still a way off. He can start by working on his touch and more one touch play.

On an aside, I liked the fact the goal he score was exactly same as the position he got into in a previous game only the he slipped after chesting it down. Anyone else remember that?
I had the same thought regarding the goal. Show's a lot of composure to chest that ball down hammer it in like that. Quality finish.

Yeah I'd agree, though the difference is that he's still learning and has played less football than Sterling. I think the pass for Origi showed how much he's come on as a player. In terms of power and pace, he has everything needed to succeed in this league.

Sterling's finishing has been atrocious despite City creating far more scoring chances than we do. Thats a tie for me.

Playing in City will be a hindrance to his development as a player; too many galacticos..he'll be lucky to get game time under a different manager . Ibe will surpass him. The only downside to Ibe's game is he doesn't pass the ball quicker.

I was always in the Sterling camp, but now Ibe has a big advantage of being coached by Klopp rather than Pellegrini. As long as they don't get Pep...

Sterling is much the better player of the two, but in terms of natural talent I don't think there's much in it and I generally agree with your breakdown of their attributes.

It's speculative to suggest that Ibe can go on and surpass Sterling at present, but he's got every chance too. It would be very satisfying if Ibe spent his career with us surpassing Sterling year after year. Fingers crossed.

I love that pass dummy left footy thing he does. Ibe can go on to be a sensational player but its still early days.
Seems like a very down to earth lad that wants to learn. If he listens to Klopp he'll be ace.

Did you really make that chart?! I love the last category 😀

Ibe's always been better than Sterling with his shooting. In terms of pace, I'm not really sure there's much between them. Sterling's game intelligence has always been outstanding, but Ibe's learning fast. I stand by what I said when Sterling left: Ibe isn't a like for like replacement, but if he realises anything close to his full potential we won't miss Sterling at all. Ibe's going to be a terrific footballer, and he's also a very likeable lad, so his success will be all the sweeter.

Sterling is comfortably the better player (I think he's faster too), but Ibe has a massive amount of potential. If he can learn from Klopp and playing with intelligent players like Sturridge, Coutinho and Firmino he'll be a huge asset to us.

The direct running with the ball is quite exciting, with his power and pace he seems to glide pass oppoents.

Yeah Sterling is the better player at the moment. His finishing is absolutely woeful, though, but he's also very strong. Freakishly so in fact. I'd say he's also faster than Ibe. That's where I'd disagree with Modo.

Agree with everything Macca has said up there about Ibe's development and potential.

Sterling couldn't finish his dinner, so Ibe is light years ahead on that front. Sterling is rapid, gets away from people then stacks his pass or finish the majority of the time.

I know that Sterling finishing isn't top notch but he still scores more goals than Ibe, so I figured that I needed to give it to Sterling.
Regarding strength?
Sterling is strong, but I think Ibe is a bit stronger. He's bigger and I haven't seen him get shrugged off the ball as many times as Sterling.

Sterling has scored 6 goals so far this season, and scored 11 last season for Liverpool.

Coutinho has scored 5 goals so far this season, and scored 8 last season.
Lallana has scored 2 goals so far this season (zero in the Premiership) and scored 6 last season
Ibe has scored a grand total of two goals in his entire Liverpool career.

Liverpool's top scorer in all competitions this season has got 5 goals.

You've clearly put lots of thought, effort and research into this. Very well done.

He plays more games though and gets into better positions than Ibe, I'd say that's a credit to Sterling's intelligence on the pitch. If Ibe got the chances Sterling got, I'd say Ibe would score more.

I've seen big players bounce off Sterling. Physically, Ibe is built like a tank, obviously, but Sterling is very strong.

When Sterling gets the inevitable knee ligament/hamstring twang, what kind of player will he become then?

He's clearly some distance better than Ibe right now, but in terms of raw ingredients, Ibe may have more longevity

I couldn't give a monkeys about sterling's 6goals to be honest, his end product is fucking shit, and he's starting to get benched because of it. Coutinho is a far better player.

Ibe is faster over the distance, Sterling has an incredible burst of pace. It's a bit like Ronaldo vs Messi – both good, but different strengths and weaknesses.

You referenced his "end product" by saying he "couldn't finish his dinner" and then compared him unfavourably to Ibe.

I simply pointed out that he's scored more goals than any Liverpool player this season, and scored more goals for Liverpool than Ibe, Lallana and Coutinho put together.

Perhaps you should edit your post and make it accurate and/or relevant to your argument.

One thing they have in common is that they can play on either wing or inside, so we've kept the versatility, and Ibe is probably going to grow as he's moved around. Personally I've always liked him on the left, as he can cut inside from there and hit some good shots with his right. (Ibe's basically two-footed, unlike Sterling, but his right is the stronger.)

He's getting benched because his quality is being put into contrast with their hugely talented front line and supporting attackers, he's still very young though.

When he was here, after Suarez left he was pretty much all we had, with Sturridge being injured. I agree, Coutinho is a better player, but I don't think it's simple to say that Ibe is the better finisher, Sterling has scored some equally spectacular goals for us, the Norwich one for starters, so he is capable. It's just watered down by the fact that he's played alot more football than Ibe.

The main problem with Sterlings finishing is that his accuracy with his left foot is sunday league standard, he just swings a boot at it with no real conviction at all and the result is mostly comical.

In all round play hes miles ahead of Ibe though. Ibe now is only really at the level Sterling was at when he was 17. Thats not to say he cant close the gap but at the moment whole games go past without any real contribution from Ibe. Hes not going to get the same time on the ball he had in academy football he has to start making more of his opportunities to do some damage

Pace is an interesting one, I think Ibe would probably win a 100 metre sprint against Sterling, but Sterling is quicker off the mark, not that Ibe is a slouch in this regard, but Sterling's ability to change direction incredibly quickly is a massive part of his superb dribbling skill. It's the same with strength, Ibe is stronger, no doubt, but Sterling has a fantastically low centre of gravity which lets him use his strength to brilliant effect, and much more effectively than Ibe I'd argue.

The problem here is that we're trying to compare two players who on the face of it are very similar, but in reality are quite different. Sure, they're both young, quick, goalscoring wingers, but Sterling is a clever, quick footed and deft dribbler, whilst Ibe is a more direct, powerful and in your face dribbler. They're both super players, but they shouldn't be compared, however, one things for sure, if you're an England fan, they're a very exciting prospect for the future.

Perhaps you should take your post and shove it up your ass maybe?

Anyway, Sterling, 4 league goals (3 in 1 game) in 13 games, so he's scored in 2 games out of 13. And has 2 assists. Fucking quality mate, quality. 49mill of amazeballs right there.
