I BElieve the hype

I have to say Im somewhat mystified by people who think Ibe is well on his way to being a better player than Sterling. From about the age of 17 it was obvious to anybody who cared to look that Sterling was going to be a top class player. Ibe will be 20 this year and hes still not cemented his position as a first team player yet, obviously player mature at different rates but Ibe has to improve a hell of a lot this season if hes going to get to Sterlings level. The major criticisms of Sterlings game was that he was a poor finisher and his decision making is suspect, however he easily scored more goals in the Premiership than Ibe did in the Championship. As far as I can see Origi is far more likely to reach the level Sterling did based on what we have seen so far

Ibe was scoring at a better clip at Derby than Sterling did with us. If you have watched Ibe progress through the youth ranks and on loan, such as @gkmacca, @peterhague, and @studsup (I have thanks to their highlights over the years), then you would know Ibe has always looked the star player in the making. He scored bucket loads at youth level. I think if you go back you'll see that Raheem scored 2 in his first 19 appearances from an attacking position, while Ibe had to play WB mostly. If Ibe gets to play LWF, he will score goals - simple. Just be patient and let him develop - it will most likely all click at once at this level with him.

Quite happy to be patient with the kid, but I think building him up to be better than Sterling is setting him up to fail. He appears to be a different type of player, less direct, more of a dribbler, where Sterling was inclined to cut inside and run at goal Ibe seems to prefer taking the full back on down the line and pulling the ball back. I think Ibe and Markovic are the 2 potential wildcards this season, if one or both of them takes a big step forward then the impact for the team will be huge. I dont see him becoming a wide forward like Sterling though.

Less direct than Sterling? I'm out.

I wouldn't say he's going to be a better player but he has every chance.

Mark Lawrenson:
[article=http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/mark-lawrenson-im-worried-liverpool-9725565]Jordon Ibe’s impressive form this summer has prompted some fans to suggest Liverpool should be happy in selling Raheem Sterling because Ibe is a better player.

Sadly, such matters don’t work like that.

But I do feel as though Ibe has the greater ability.

He has the capacity to beat a man in a short space which, for me, Sterling was unable to do on a regular basis.

Sterling didn’t have a ‘trick’ whereas Ibe has a few, most notably his ability to cut inside off the flank.

As a winger, that quality can’t be overstated enough. It’s massive.

Young players who grow up as wingers generally learn how to take players on down the outside and get to the byline.

The ability to also beat a man coming inside and play a pass or shot is more difficult.

If you can do that, then the opposing defender has a problem setting themselves. Do they go on the outside, or do they defend the inside line?

When a player like Ibe can do both, it opens up such possibilities.

Simply remember the way he announced himself last season in the Goodison derby by cutting inside off the right wing and then smashing a blistering shot against the woodwork.

Look, I’m not saying he’s the new John Barnes. Far from it. But I can see a sameness in terms of their physicality.

And if he ends up being half the player, then Liverpool will have a real success on their hands.

You have to think Ibe’s going to start the season.

And that puts the onus on him to help provide service for Christian Benteke, who is also likely to be first choice.[/article]

Of course it works like that. Rodgers was convinced his mate, Sterling, was better than Ibe. So Ibe got fewer chances and played in less influential positions. Now, if we want a pacey winger, it has to be Ibe. Thankfully.

If he stayed, Sterling would have remained the better player, which he is. However, by the end of this season Sterling will be seen as a failed substitute, whilst Ibe will look like he has the world at his feet and was always the more talented player.

He is going to be a star. I've thought this for two years and have seen nothing to change my mind.

Will be in our squad more often than not this year.

As much as your soul in tension is to wind people up here, Skully, I'd think you'd be hard-pressed to find someone to disagree with that.

Two years may paint a different picture, mind.

Ibe is gonna be this year's supersub. Bring him on against tired legs, and he'll take the pish. Dude will score 8 goals off the bench this season.

I'm still shaking my head at the thread title.

For sweet Jesus sake, what were you thinking?

I know. I brought it up earlier, but I still think he's got off relatively unscathed.

It's so shit it's dreamy.

Yeah, Don Draper's not too happy with his work as well.

I think I've gotten off relatively unscathed as I don't have a history of making threads. Plus it's only a thread title.

If you run the thread title through auto-tune and hear it back in Cher's voice, it almost makes sense. But it's still crap.
