I'm not disagreeing with that. But nobody WANTS the ball. When they get it, they try to get rid of it as quickly as possible, even if it means putting their teammate in difficulty. On top of all that organisational faults, there is a lack of character out there today. I mean, it's the derby, we're two-nil down, we're in the relegation zone, and we've got new owners. Yet the only thing on anyone's minds is the terror of making a mistake.
 
I think we can safely say (with Inter 2nd on alphabetic difference only) that sacking Benitez for Hodgson was a mistake. As many said at the time, Benitez is a superior manager to Hodgson.

Indeed. A change had to be made. Rafa was trapped in his own stubbornness and the players clearly didn't want to play for him any more. Trouble is we made the wrong change when Kenny was turned down.

Sacking Benitez was needed is debatable. The replacement by Hodgson is not. That was the main argument at the time. Who will it be and will he be better? Well now we know the answer. And the main point for not sacking Benitez was - with the owners at the time what decent manager in his right mind would come in? This has cost us money in compensation etc and we're going to have to write that off to experience.
