No it won't be.

Yeah, in modern game having a "true" #10 is a luxury and only a few managers are willing to consider it. Ribery has been begging to play in the middle for years in Bayern and none of their managers allowed him to, even though it's probably his best position. Sneijder, for all his talent, couldn't justify playing as #10 in a top club (after Mourinho left, that is). He went to Galatasarai and still got pushed onto the wing. Many of us (including me) wanted Rafa to play Yossi through the middle and he never obliged. Etc etc.

I think with Suarez and Sturridge (and maybe Borini or another striker next season), our #10 and #9 roles are pretty much set. As for Coutinho, he seems quite comfortable on the wing and willing to run at the the opposing fullback and track back when needed. He is very much two-footed, so I'm sure he will be just as effective on the right wing. Frankly, I think in Sterling and Coutinho our attacking wings are pretty much set for years to come - of course they will both need good competition to push them to improve.

Rodgers likes wingers who cut inside whilst fullbacks overlap. Coutinho and Enrique are a perfect paring for this, they wont move. I don't think I've ever said this before, but I'm very happy with our left side.

I think this is where Coutinho will stay, with Sterling competing with him for this spot. We need an alternate to Enrique though.

On the right I presume we'll be back in for Ince.

I disagree, I've been one of Enrique's biggest critics, what with his dordling on the ball etc. But this season and in this system he's been fantastic, he's attacking play is second to none, and I've yet to see anyone beat him down the flank. He biggest weakness is still indecision, but that's improving, and no ones perfect.

Sorry, I didn't mean we need to replace him, I meant we need another option at LB, preferably not just GlenJo playing there. Whether he'll eventually be good enough or not, I don't think Robinson is currently good enough to step if in Enrique is injured.

Ah, yep, then I agree, maybe by next season he'll be ready, he could have done with being on loan this half of this season to help progress really.

Apparently he only had 47% pass completion against spurs

And Downing had 96% pass completion plus 3 key passes. Apparently. Which is weird because we only scored 3 goals and how can a pass be key unless it involves a goal at the end ?

That's a shame - Spion for one was dying to meet you. 😉 You must have had a great time though. After a long trip to the game it's always ace to head back after such a great result.

Me and Modo have buried the hatchet. I made him an offer to share a pre match pint. I'm an alright sport of chap really - apart from that Mors cunt.

I assume if it results in a chance created it is considered key.

Statistics are only half the truth anyway.

It's what he does with the 50% of these balls he's playing. If he only makes 10 passes per game, 5 go into touch, and 5 create a goal, I'm fucking all for it.

An absolute steal the price we paid for him, and to be honest he is already worth more than that when we bought him.

The fact that he also seems to have his head on his shoulders in terms of personality & work ethic is also a massive plus. He really could be one of those players where in 3-4 years time he is world class.

I for one am absolutely delighted we have him here... If Brendan can bring in another Midfielder and Centre Back of similar age and potential I will be very confident for the future.

His poor pass completion stats in the game reflect the ambitiousness of the balls he was playing, something he was clearly encouraged to do. In fact, they were saying last night on the LFC review of the game show that BR was talking him through the game in the 1st half when he was on the dugout side, directing him positionally and giving instruction.

I am loving his energy, his turns, his dribbling, his passing, his enthusiasm, his acceleration, and the ball seems stuck to his feet when he moves. I love his price as well. Looking good. People say he reminds them of LG. He's got far more skill at first glance. Remains to be seen if finishing is as good.

Steven Gerrard impressed with Philippe Coutinho's impact at Liverpool

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard admits the January arrival of Philippe Coutinho has injected come creative spark into the side.
The 20-year-old Brazil international has made a big impact on Merseyside since joining from Inter Milan in an £8.5m deal.

Coutinho is yet to complete a full match for Liverpool, but he has already scored once and had two assists in 202 minutes of football.
Gerrard has been impressed with the midfielder and feels he will get even better when he is fully fit.

"He's got moments of magical brilliance," Gerrard said.

"I think you'll see the best of him next season when he gets a full pre-season under his belt and gets used to the speed of the game.

"What he has shown for 55 or 60 minutes is that he's a top player and he belongs in a Liverpool shirt.
"If we can get that for 90 minutes from him next season then he's going to be a great asset for us."

Team-mate Jose Enrique is also confident that Coutinho will emerge as a key player for Liverpool.

"The numbers speak for themselves: in four games he has two assists and one goal so I hope he will continue like this scoring goals and making assists," said the left-back.
"He is the type of a player, as a big team, you have to have.

"He can create from nothing in a one versus one. He is playing really well right now and he is the type of player we need.

"Defenders are important but you need people who can score goals and we have now."

The Gerrard seal of approval.

Gerrard is a great player, but not a good scout. I don't think his approval means very much, tbh.

At least he didn't mention a golf ball

"Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has claimed that team-mate Joe Cole is better than Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Speaking to Match of the Day magazine, Gerrard said: "Messi can do some amazing things, but anything he can do Joe can do as well, if not better. He used to shock us in training by doing footy tricks with a golf ball that most players can't even do with a football."

Coutinho: I'm small

Philippe Coutinho has revealed how he is hitting the gym in a bid to become a fully-fledged Barclays Premier League star.

The Brazilian has impressed since moving to Liverpool from Inter Milan in January, claiming one goal and two assists in three starts.
Though satisfied with how things have gone so far, Coutinho is undergoing extra work in order to come to terms with the physical nature of the English game.
He told Liverpoolfc.com: "It is very different here. In Brazil the game is very open, the defenders are not as tight with the attacker. I think this is the hardest thing here.
"Also, the game is very quick - but I feel I can improve these things during training and improve my intensity.

"I have been doing some body building, too, so I can get more used to the physicality."
Though he is just 20 years old, the Barclays Premier League is the fourth top-flight division Coutinho has played in having featured in Serie A, La Liga and the Brazilian league.
He's well placed, therefore, to discuss the different styles of play in each country.
"English football is very quick, it has great intensity, and I think this is the big difference [to other leagues]," he continued.

"In Brazil, football is slower, the tactics are a bit more open and the pitch even seems to be bigger - even though it is obviously the same size - due to the game being so open.
"In Italy, it is a little bit different than it is in Brazil, but here in England it is very quick. I played in Italy and in Spain but the intensity of the game here is very strong. I just have to improve to be able to play at the highest level here.
"I will always give my best and then try to score and create good moves to help the team win."
Coutinho already appears to have struck up an understanding with South American compatriot Luis Suarez - a man whose talents he believes are not of this world.

"Suarez is phenomenal - he is otherworldly," said the No.10. "The goals he scores, the way he gives himself to the team... It is very important and I am very happy to be able to play next to him.

"I think it's the way he gives himself to the team - he fights all the time and chases all the time. He doesn't let one ball go - even if it's the hardest one.

"He fights all the time to win and I admire that in a player. I think it is one of his strong points.
"I'm not only happy to play next to him, but also other players like Steven [Gerrard], who is phenomenal, too. These are guys from another world!"

Despite feeling as though he still has much more to offer, Coutinho could hardly have wished for a better start to Anfield life.

He concluded: "I'm very happy here. I am at a great club, I am wearing a shirt that has a great history and what I have noticed in the last few weeks here is that the whole group is very united, strong and fights for their aims. I hope I can learn more and more with my teammates here."
