Chelsea post match

Spent time with a couple of blues last night.

They spent most of the time trying to tell me that Chelsea were that bad anyone would have beaten them, we weren't that good, we massively overpaid for Firmino & Benteke, & Klopp is all hype.

I simply smiled & pointed out a few facts about the match, thankfully there were a load of reds there too doing similar!

I found it very amusing how much our result bothered them!

Henderson fitness is still someway off I hear. Give the arm band to one of Skirtal/Lucas/Sakho/Coutinho. We could play Ibe for Milner but who could play RB when Clyne needs a rest?

I have a Chelsea loving Oz mate who I banter with on FB occasionally - She's sound and very knowledgeable about the game - I think she even plays semi professionally (as much as you can do in the women's Oz football league) Anyway I got a flurry of messages from her this morning and greatly enjoyed reading them while chomping on my corn flakes. Basically she thinks that they are clearly a busted flush. Too many ego's, too much arrogance, and not enough real football being played. She hates Terry for example which while I concur with the sentiment sounded strange coming from her.

Apparently the Chelski bench exploded with rage at one point thinking Klopp was lambasting the ref for giving a foul against Moreno, and he just turned around and said he was actually shouting at Moreno for giving away a needless foul - which left all of them not knowing how to back down without looking stupid. I bet he did a few things just to wind them up yeaterday - they're notorious for bossing that area and he beat them as well as his team did on the pitch.

Sturridge : 8th Nov 15
Henderson : 21st Nov 15
Flanagan : 19th Dec 15

MM: absolutely. My German's decent but I'm far from sure I would be able to return the compliment.

I reckon Klopp saw this game as very important in his quest to turn LFC and everyone associated with it "from doubters to believers" (a phrase that struck me from his very first interviews). This guy knows what he's doing, and then some.

Technical question in the pub last night - should Chelsea's goal have been disallowed?

Azpilicueta went on the overlap only by leaving the field of play and then re-entered without the referee's permission. There is no question that he gained an advantage, the touchline was blocked and he avoided Milner's attempt to cover the run because he used the other players as a shield and ran off the pitch.

It's a founding rule of football that a player cannot obtain an advantage by deliberately leaving the field of play and then coming back on without the referee's permission. It's illegal and results in a free kick to the opposing side from the position the player re-entered the play.

I suppose if Clattenburg had disallowed it, Mourinho would have plumbed new depths of insanity but I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it, not even those luminaries of the game such as Howard fucking Webb.

Any referees out there who can adjudicate on this point?

Ugly winners and hideous ungracious losers.
It's just a vile club from top to bottom.
The sooner the gangster oil money dries up and they fall back into irrelevance the better.

I suspect his wells are deep.
Here's hoping he gets bored with this little toy of his, and gets rid.

On that note, wasnt Lallana offside for our third goal?

I believe he was. I was concerned the ref was going to disallow it.
So many ref mistakes these days. Refereeing level isn't very high, is it? They seem to be off the pace of modern game way too often.

I've been hoping that happens for years and still no joy.
The fact that he's not entertaining the thought of building a new stadium or considering redevelopment gives us some hope I suppose.

I thought he was, and even thought he had deflected it. A bit brainless by Lallana but there was so much happening and in the furore about whether Lucas ought to (ought not to) have been sent off was overlooked.

He won't. He needs it to hide from Putin (supposedly Putin won't put a hit on him since he;s so high profile in the West).

As was the fact that Ramires' goal came about from Skrtel deflecting the cross into his path. Small but vital but deflections are part of this high paced game anyway.

They are really on a hiding to nothing though, the game is so fast and all the players are cheats. They need more assistance from technology and someone in the TV box watching replays. Now Blatter and Platini seem to be on their way out we might actually get it.

Agreed, there is no way a ref can win these days without help. Any true technology being involved will change the game in a large manner though, & I'm honestly not sure whether I'll Luke what that brings.

Oh, I agree. In fact the deflection came via Cahill rather than Lallana.

My worry was that the Benteke's goal was going to be rejected.

“I am so happy to score those goals,” Coutinho told the ECHO.

“It had been a long time since I last scored. I haven't been playing so well but I knew I just had to keep working and things would change for me. That's what I did.

“I kept going and I knew that good things would come. Hopefully I can go on to score many more goals. I'm most happy about the fact I was able to help the team to get the three points.

“The support we got from the fans throughout the game was amazing. They are always there supporting us and we wanted to give something back. My goals and this win is for them.”

Coutinho said: “The manager was pleased - he gave me a big hug!

“Everyone in the squad is enjoying the football he asks from us.

“He's a manager who demands a lot of hard work. That's what we try to do every day. We have to continue this way.

“He is a manager who gives you confidence. We have had some difficult moments as a team but now we're in a good way.

"We have to keep it going.”

"The big players show their quality in the games you need them," Skrtel told Liverpoolfc.com.

"Maybe Philippe didn't play quite as well in the last few games but today he showed his quality and how important he is for this team.
"We didn't start well, we knew that. But I think after that ten minutes we started to play the game we wanted to and the [equalising] goal we scored was a massive help for us. "In the second half we dominated, scored two goals, and won the game."

Skrtel was keen, however, to emphasise the role played by other members of the starting XI and those who emerged from the bench.
"The performance as a team was outstanding and every single player [either] on the pitch or on the bench, did everything for the win today," he added.
"That's why we are very happy. It feels great. "To beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is always something special and especially after the performance we showed today. "I think second half we absolutely dominated and deserved the three points."

Lawrenson :

As he suggested after the match, Klopp had clearly had a word with his players at half-time. They have a bit of analysis they run through during the break, so I imagine the analysis man deserves a pat on the back.

The pressing game worked really well for us at Stamford Bridge. You could see the players have really bought into it, because the rewards are immediate. We kept pinching the ball off Chelsea's players, and that's the aim. Of course, the system needs a bit of refining. We've already seen at home that when opposing teams sit back and defend, the pressing game isn't always that, well, pressing. It requires different answers.

A word, too, for the travelling supporters at Chelsea. They were great. Even at 1-0 down, they were loud and if it wasn't for them the place would have been a library.
The fans have really bought into Klopp. But then, a lot of them had bought into him months ago!
