Brendan Rodgers told to sign £30m striker after wasting £100m

i've now decided that Marco Reus is the only striker I would wish for us to sign.

Simply 'cos of the air of class and mystery surrounding him, even though i've never watched him play before in my entire life.

We've had no shocking news this summer. We've known who we were signing long before the signings have happened this summer. That's why the lack of news or even rumours is making me a bit nervous. Whoever we sign will be a a gamble in some regards because there is a shortage of options. I really don't envy Rodgers with this decision.

It doesn't "content" me at all, you're missing the point. You said we've done "next to nothing" - a striker was on the verge of signing but it fell through, that's not inactivity by any stretch. We might have taken our time over it, rather than rushing into it, but it doesn't mean we haven't done anything to address it.

I'm not having a go at you, but the people knocking our approach are the same ones who moaned that we panicked and bought Andy Carroll, you can't have it both ways. We want to make sure we get the right player for the right conditions, and rightly so.

Nah, im not missing the point, as i already said we must have different interpretations of "next to nothing", that's all, Lambert and nearly signing Remy is next to nothing for me.

We have taken a big blow with Suarez going and from where im sitting we look like we are flapping around in a bit of a haze trying to recover from it when there should have been a plan in place for his departure, as it stands we are in a position where an injury to Sturridge means we have a big problem, its inexcusable for Liverpool to be in that position going into the season.

Also people are perfectly entitled to question what is going on and have a negative opinion if they want without having the happy police screeching up and preaching to them every time because they don't like an opinion, you can hardly blame anyone if they have concerns with how we operate in the transfer business given our history of fucking it up.

Reus was made vice captain today at BVB. Hummels captain.
They're not leaving in this transfer window.

Reus will end up at Bayern next summer. Rummenigges comments were pretty clear about going after him.

we have not spent much net but we have surely added a massive amount to the wage bill. i wonder whether we need to offload players before signing anyone of note at this point. agger, ass-aids and boringi could have brought 30 mill in but they haven't yet. god knows how much we'd get for mucas.

you'd think smaller clubs would be well into picking off our surplas players but it doesn't seem to be happening.

So a transfer falling through at the 11th equates to us doing "next to nothing". Seriously, I fucking give up. And quit with the "happy police" shite, I never said I was happy, I said you were being inaccurate, interpret agreeing terms with a striker and him failing a medical how you like.

We don't really have that many surplus players left. I reckon Borini and Assaidi will end up going before the window is up. We could do with getting rid of a CB but after that there isn't much money to be made.

We've lost a couple high earners in Suarez and Reina so I'm guessing that will have earned us a little more breathing room with regards to the wage bill.

It's a young squad so there can't be that many on around the 100k mark.

I can sympathize with both sides of the argument.

This team has got goals in it so it's not an unreasonable gamble to take things to the wire as far as the transfer window is concerned. On their day the likes of Sterling, Sturridge and Coutinho are pretty special.

That said, it was pointed out by someone else that there have been no surprises really in terms of targets this summer and given that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of links in the press right now apart from Bony perhaps, you do start to wonder where our shiny new striker is going to come from.

We can only hope the right players stay fit and the club have an ace up their sleeve because if come the end of August we're having to excuse the situation with "well, the club tried", it's not good enough.

I think we should get used to the "well, the club tried" until we get another star in January (like Sturridge, Suarez, and Coutinho). Then we can say "too little, too late"... when we pass the ball all the way to the goal but fail to get it in for the first half of the season.

Well, regardless of any new signings, we shouldn't be saying that given the players you've mentioned - they stay fit and we should have goals in us.

sturridge isn't going to stay fit though -- that's practically a given.

we will struggle to score in any game lambert starts.

Suarez 200k Reina 100k. Have we really added a massive amount to our wage bill?

To be honest, I wouldn't be too upset if we picked up someone we are sure of in January to give us a boost for the final push. I would rather that and get the player that would best add to what we see in the first half of the season than panic and take a gamble on whatever random lump there is left.

I'll go along with that.

We're going to sign a striker before the window closes. If not we can discuss how poorly we've done on that front then.

Whoever is available in Jan will surely be available now.
