Andy Carroll

He showed an attribute that once we all loved Gerrard for. To grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
If he shows that same attitude for the next two games I'll be very optimistic for next season. If not, then it was a one off and we should be looking at him only as plan B.

What's to play for for the next 2 games?

He's a beast, regardless of the next 2 worthless games

Will Woy give him a chance in the run up to the Euros?

Mightn't do him any harm if he were to go to Ukraine as it might give him a bit more hunger to succeed

dont think he'll go the euros tbh but i hope he does, i have a worry that he'll get unfit quite fast in the off season

I dunno.
Hodgson likes the idea of a big man to hoof it to and hold the ball up.
I would expect him to get a chance in the upcoming friendlies.
Though I also wouldn't be surprised if Grant Holt got a call as well

I'm all for hoping he becomes some monster, I'm not for banking on it because of a few good performances. It's not exactly crazy. Have we not absolutely humped some teams despite ourselves, and just needed a fucking goal this season, just once or twice? Carroll's to be blamed for some of that, like many of those with some games this season. Yes some of that is management, but we're talking about a group of players who are at times completely uncreative, and at times very creative in attempting to find ways to not finish.

It says a lot for him that he'll score in big games. His attitude has been great of late. I wanted him desperately to win the game for us and he nearly did. Hope he comes back hungry next season and starts well. But seriously, build the team around him?

yeah i think the biggest difference is his attitude, same could be said with torres, both have looked reluctant to get into the box this season, looks like its changed of late

I accept all your apologies & adulation for calling it exactly as it was all along.

Everyone except farky & ryan that is, who will deny his obvious talents for at least another season.
Foxy nails it as per

He has become leaner and fitter, but that is only half of it. We also have to consider he is still a young man, not the sharpest knife in the drawer, up-rooted rather unexpectedly from his native city and dumped in Liverpool with this fucking £35m price tag around his neck like an albatross, he was always going to take a little time to settle. Add to that he had a serious injury that took time to get over.
I don't get this business that he has changed so dramatically though either, like foxy and a few others I always saw it in him, he is not the finished product, but he has always been much better than some people believed.
I just don't think he has been managed well in fact he has been managed atrociously, and when he has been on the pitch in this idiotic erratic selection, I don't think the other players have supported him on the pitch in the right way.

yeah but this is probably the most important point now , if kenny is just going to continue using him the same way next season , leaving him on the bench after a decent game etc etc , then in a sense what is the point in keeping him?. Surely we'd be better off in trying to get some money for him and using it on another attacking player who'll be a regular starter and considered undroppable in big games like a cup final .

Your right, it is hindsight to ask our players to play with pride continually.
How do you know they haven't and it's something else that's been lacking?

PS It's you're and not your. Pretty sure my right can't do hindsight.

Ok, it's either lack of tactics, lack of ability, or lack of passion.

Choose.

PS. Predictive text is a bitch

Tough choices, out of the 3 I'll say lack of ability to put the ball in the net.

PS. That's strange my predictive test puts the ' between u and r whenever I type youre. The key is the 'e' at the end I suppose.

Sound, we've got shit players then. So shift out the dross.

Also some smartphones actually insert the ' nowadays. Sadly, that time it decide to ignore my typed 'e', or indeed an accidentally pressed 'r' and turn the word into the wrong form.

Luckily you had that pedantry to focus on rather than focus on the SHOWER OF SHITE that we have had to endure since January, where our lack of ability (in a squad of internationals) cost us.

Personally I believe some players are cowards and have cost us. They show no fight and no belief in core positions.

Henderson, downing, carroll of 4 months ago, Enrique. Their laxadaisical attitude cost us games. Happily carroll is turning that around now.

Oh, and to follow suit: it's "predictive text", not "predictive test".

Boss keyboard work x

He made some difference when he came on but he have buried that chance in the back of the net and not given cech any hope of saving it

Carroll was excellent yesterday but I am still uncomfortable with he thought of building a team around his particular set of attributes as a player,.

If you invest £35m in a player then it's vital to try and get the best out of him. ok building a team around him might be pushing it but you certainly need to have the right personnel around him.

If you're gonna focus on shite all the time then you're gonna be in the poo. I look for the positives but, admittedly, it was hard this season. It'll be better next season, there are small green shoots of improvement. Carroll being one of them.

That's harsh imo. Unlike the header he missed against Everton, he went for placement as opposed to power and it was on target as a result.

Credit to Cech, it was a truly brilliant save.
