A sign of things to come?

I was at the game, and when he came on, not only did he change Liverpool, but also Chelsea. What a performance. He really did look like a £35million player, and I was very proud of him. Great goal, disallowed goal, tormented them. Great stuff. I can take heart from that. At least Kenny has left us with something for the future, lets hope our next manager buys well and gives Henderson a kick up the ass.

Its not hindsight though. The fact is he came on and done very well. We were playing in a style prior to Carroll's sub, that suited him and that is the most annoying part.

He looks much leaner now than he did at the start of the season, hopefully he is finally at full fitness and can stay fit over the summer.

He truly was a monster today though and he had a couple of chested down controls of long passes that the likes of Torres, etc. could only dream of.

He has looked a completely different player since he was booed by the toon fans

The quick footwork for his goal was what amazed me. I really did not think he could do that - especially a man of his size, the only similar sized player who has quick moving feet in the penalty area is Zlatan Ibrahimovich (sorry for bad spelling if wrong). It was great to watch.

You can tell he's got technique, sadly it deserted him for half the season.

He certainly surprised a lot of Liverpool fans today with his fancy footwork just before he scored. He's slowly becoming the player he was at Newcastle all over again. I really hope he keeps it up, and I'm fucking chuffed for him, and for Kenny for standing by him for so long.

And it's impossible to tell if was a goal or not. From the side view it looked like the whole ball didn't cross the line. But if you look closely, you'll see that the side view was slightly off skew. The camera was about 2 feet to the left of the goal. It clearly wasn't in line with it. So even if the whole of the ball had crossed the line, it might still have looked like it hadn't. Whoever was responsible for setting up that camera should be shot.

This.
I think the penny finally dropped for him on that day.

Yep, it could have.

Whilst Carroll was knocking the goals in for fun at Newcastle, he was also getting into alot of trouble...nightclub fights etc so who's to say that wouldn't have carried on had he stayed there. We've heard fuck all about his so-called drink problem since he joined and from these quotes, he seems to have changed his ways:

“My past is my past. I feel when I came to Liverpool I changed my lifestyle and everything about it and settled down. I have my girlfriend with me at home and I love it here,”
“All I do now is sit in the house with my girlfriend, chill out and watch movies. I’m on the X-Box or I’ll watch TV with my girlfriend,” he said.

Cross post.

I've been a major critic of Carroll ..... but in the last 3-4 matches he's stepped up about 3 gears and if he plays like that week in week out next season (with better midfielders around SG) then I will have to eat my hat.

I'd all but given up on the big man by Christmas but he's been one of our better players in 2012. Still need another striker though.

and yet he's left on the bench a fair bit including in a major final ....so it's obvious the main man who matters , kenny , still has doubt or isn't sure how to include him best in the tactics he wants to play .

. I really hope he keeps it up, and I'm fucking chuffed for him, and for Kenny for standing by him for so long.

fair enough....... but again , why does kenny stick him on the bench so often , including in a major cup final , a final you would expect him to start a £35m striker he was fully confident in and standing by .

I'm not sure Kenny has really? There's been plenty of occasions of late (well, most of the season really) when Carroll's put in a really good shift, one that promises he's building some momentum, to then find he's on the bench for the next 2/3 games.

He should have started yesterday (and I said as much at 4.30pm).

I think Kenny's handled him badly most of the year. Henderson gets played week in, week out regardless of inadequate performances. Carroll's been a mixed bag but hasn't been afforded the chance to build on matches where he's shown promise.

After the Everton game at Anfield he was dropped to bench for 3-4 games. I found that bizzarre. I think we lost 3 of them aswell.

Jesus. I was impressed with Carroll in many ways in recent games, but people are going over the top to suggest that we should build a team around him, that's crazy. He's suggested he can be an effective striker. I'm pretty excited about that, he's turned it around considerably. For half a season, after we'd fucked up the league because we needed goals fucking desperately, he decided he might have to work. He needed a little nudge. Probably because he wasn't a fucking top notch striker who fiends for goals which become a drug.

We'll know exactly where Carrolls at if he takes this off season seriously. He needs to improve further and show consistency. I do wonder with Carroll occasionally whether it is the same sort of inscrutable logic from Dalglish that keeps Maxi out of a team begging for goals, but then I think of all the opportunities he has actually had, and sometimes I see a manager who is saying I don't care what we paid for you, you had better fucking motivate yourself.

He's made a case that now that he realizes bridges were burned at Newcastle in some ways, and discovered isn't a vast amount of interest considering the cost, that he might have to take his career aspirations into account when deciding about the whole bothering to give a shit. I'd love to see him battle with a striker that is going to give him some level of competition after a good off season. He'll have to improve further to keep a great striker from keeping him out of games. Surely our hopes for Carroll have to involve improving our attack considerably, rather than doing some hope-based calculations after watching us lose that fucking game.

I must say I was impressed by him too.

Although did you see how high he lifted his foot over the ball for the goal? It was like the Billy Connelly sketch of the drunk man walking home and lifts his foot two feet in the air to step over a cigarette packet.

I accept all your apologies & adulation for calling it exactly as it was all along.

Everyone except farky & ryan that is, who will deny his obvious talents for at least another season.

He still has not really had a long run in the starting 11. We need to put faith in him!

He was excellent when he came on, but am I the only one who thinks he could have tapped in the rebound if he didn't start celebrating the ghost goal?

Carroll was excellent yesterday but I am still uncomfortable with he thought of building a team around his particular set of attributes as a player,.

But carroll is surprisingly versatile. Power of a titan and touch of silk
