Who messes up no more than the rest of the back line, infect much less than the universally applauded Enrique, yet the few times he slightly moves in the wrong direction it's like hell has frozen over. Sure he cuts inside but he also plays the wing very well and is a lot more dangerous going forward and wastes it a lot less than again the wonderful Enrique, Johnson is a fantastic full back yet for some reason no one wants to see it, yes he's classy, but we need classy, and like I said before, he provides a fantastic link between defender midfield and strikers which Kelly cannot provide and it's invaluable for relieving pressure of our back four.

Exactly sir, until this season it always used to be Lucas, this season it's Downing and Henderson, though alot of the time they deserve it to be honest.
 
No one has said Enrique is wonderful Mystic, that's just typically over doing the bite back. This is like Skrtel Vs Agger again.

Neither of them are great, Enrique defends better and uses his strength well, but does make the occasional error and is poor at cutting out crosses. Johnson is good with the ball at his feet, has the ability to take players on and score goals, just not to the extent that the exaggerators would have us believe. He's also pretty inconsistent defensively, is poor at cutting out crosses, doesn't have great positional sense and makes mistakes.

Johnson cost about £13m more than Enrique though.

Neither are really fantastic, but one of them is a better defender, cost less and is better at the more important aspects of his position.
 
Enrique makes more blunders than Johnson but in general yes he's a better defender, Johnson is a good defender though and a great player for our team, I just wish people would abandon the witch hunt, it's not warranted. Yes he cost a lot more but he's been here a long time and in the long time is proving value for money.

add that to being comfortable on the ball, great shot, very good free kick taker, good movement, scores goals. And he doesn't have a lack of confidence like some other players we have bought.

We've missed Johnson when Kelly's been on the pitch as well.
 
I don't rate johnson (at all) but since october he's really impressed me.

Yes you have missed it. 1 goal and 2 assists in 2 starts for us this season so far. 6 goals in 10 appearances for Blackpool this season. 7 goals in 42 appearances as a child for Charlton. 4 goals in 4 appearances for England u19. Let him start for us and we'll see goals.

I've never understood it either, he's a fucking great fullback & his defending isn't anywhere near as bad as some would have you believe.
 
Johnson is class.
He adds so much to our play. Goals and attacking impetus.
And we have the second meanest defence in the league.
Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carroll etc I get the critiscism for. Johnson notsomuch.

I think kelly could score as much as johnson, primarily from set pieces though. Johnson has 6 goals in 92 games for us.
But yeah, when he can be arsed to overlap, johnson causes problems
 
I honestly think that Agger, Skrtel, Johnson, Lucas, Gerrard and probably Reina and Suarez are just so good at what they do that no critiscism (broad spectrum) should wash.
I dont mean a mistake here or a poor game there. I just mean generally they are good enough for ANY team so why bother bitching about them at all?
I would personally include Kuyt and Carragher but i get why others wouldnt. The first five for me are untouchable and I wouldnt want to replace them.

The man before him got one goal in 150 games and is regarded one of our best ever RB.

This is spot on. The only unfortunate thing is that Agger's fitness and to a lesser extent Johnson's mean that we cant depend on getting anywhere near full season's from them. Kelly is a capable replacement for Johnson, I dont think we have anyone to satisfactorily replace Agger. Maybe Coates will prove to be.

I agree, I just wouldn't put Johnson in that category because I think the other players are more rounded at their game. The one thing that Johnson should excel at, he doesn't. He's hardly the player we should really be pointing the finger at right now though, granted.
 
I'm happy with our fullback options.

They all have their flaws, but Kelly, Johnson, Enrique and Robinson have the talent to ensure we do not have to buy another one for the next three or four years, maybe even longer.That's good enough for me.

Contrast that to our cunt of a midfield.

I agree, I don't have any problem with our defense other than I think carra should be further down the pecking order. I want all our money (whatever the amount) to be spent on the midfield and attack.
 
Indeed our only problem in defence in the baffling inclusion of Carragher ahead of Coates. Then again, i've never really liked Carragher so i'm bias.

I think carra was amazing for two seasons and good/overrated for the rest. at no stage do I think carra was better sami, sami losing his captaincy to gerrard and vice captaincy to carra was frankly a joke. for the past two seasons I think carra has been poor.
