He's going to be hated by everyone but United fans and the fawning press within two months. It's already began from the press side, they won't stop talking about his inspired decision to bring on Krul, and little commentaries like "Van Gaal has a plan, he's always got something up his sleeve". He basically seems like a new Mourinho to me, with less managerial nous, and even more ego (who'd have thought it possible).

What really irked me last night was his comments after the penalty loss last night. First of all he reveals he's hurting after, I quote, 'I taught Romero how to stop penalties' and then instead of taking responsibility for setting Ron Vlaar up to take the first penalty, or indeed offering him his support, he reveals that two of the players refused to take the first penalty and he had no choice. What a shithouse, firstly trying to take some credit for his team crashing out, and then instead of protecting his players, saying something simple like "Ron was confident and looking good in training" he instead decides to flip all of the blame and pressure back onto his team, implying they let him down, such a classless show.

Before anyone says it, you're probably right, I wouldn't care as much if he wasn't United's new manager, but unfortunately he is, and we're going to have to put up with this shit all season. I hope he fails spectacularly, because he's going to be a complete shithouse, and if he is successful with them, it's going to be a very hard few seasons. Trust United to replace one cunt, with another.

The fugly mutt isn't being hailed a genius today. I'm so glad that they out. I can't even think of all the vitriol we would have to deal with if he was a WC winner going to the Scum.

Probably in the start and then everyone will start hating him (is my guess)

That's the usual pattern.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't get them back in the CL, though.

He starts there with a big deficit, though: apparently he pulled the plug on the signing of Kroos that Moyes had set up. I'd rather have Kroos than Van Gaal.

Shocking if true, maybe that's because he'd prefer Sneijder?

LVG is a big personality who will unfortunately mould the Utd team and coax them back to winning ways. He will intimidate their stars and not the other way around.

The football has been pretty dire, yesterday they almost played for penalties and had one really good game against the Spanish (second half) though could been 3-1 down at half time.

Is this normal tactics for LVG or is he an attacking manager.

I saw that comment that he'd taught him how to save penalties, I didn't know he was the goalkeeping coach the cunt. He seems very 'me me me'. I think it might end in tears again for the scum on this one.

Yep, his arrogant attitude was what irritated me into making this thread. Seriously imagine trying to take credit for the opposition team after you've just been knocked out of the world cup semi finals, I don't even think Mourinho would try that. Unfortunately I think he'll be a resounding success at that cesspool.

Hes the Dutch Mourinho, he has to be at the centre of everything, his "I taught Romero how to save penalties" line today after getting knocked out was pure Mourinho self congratulatory bullshit, 'even when I lose its actually cos Im great'. Grade A wanker

The press are gonna be up his hole but Im well up for hating this prick already, bring it on

I wonder who the two players are that he claims 'refused' to take the first pen? I'd guess Robben and sneijder seeing as the rapist wasn't on the pitch.

Im guessing Huntelaar was one as he seemed to be hiding down at no 5 in the roster

Maybe he'll put their names in an envelope and read them out after the 3rd place playoff.

I agree I think he will be hated by everyone but us, probably similar to Ferguson and the opposite of Moyes where every other supporter loved having him at United. ☺

Personally I don't think he is anything like Mourinho in terms of management or tactics. Mourinho is the best man manager around while LVG is much better on the tactical side of the game.

Van Gaal is al so a far more attack minded manager than Mourinho, I think going so far as to say it was a moral duty to entertain fans.
Can't judge much from the WC as that Dutch team is pretty awful so we will have to wait and see what he brings to United.

Overall I am hopeful we will see an improvement compared to Moyes but anything above 4th is wishful thinking by United supporters IMO. And that will be an extremely hard fought and and could go to any of 3/4 teams

So...

who's going to be 1st, 2nd & 3rd??? 😛

Rooney is going to hate him. Van Gaal will have no problem dropping him if he does not stick to the exact role he is given.

They still need about 7 first team players but I can see LVG improving them. I can easily see them getting up to 6th place.

Yes I did think that the way the ITV commentators were licking van Gaal's arse so enthusiastically last night might have something to do with him being United's manager. 🙄

I was always a big LVG fan. I was a closet Munich fan even during the Dortmund hipster days.
LVG was boss at not using a recognised striker in the CL at times. He's an arrogant prick though and that will rub people up the wrong way.

How soon before he gives RVP the captains armband?

His team is full of attacking flair, and rather light at the back, however last night he insisted on shutting up shop and destroying the play, as opposed to going for it, hence the Mourinho comparisons, that and his ego. His tactics were also questionable, in the first half, Messi, Higuian and Lavezzi were laughing at the Dutch wing backs, can't fault the way they performed against Spain and Chile though. It will be interesting to see how he performs at United this season, because I'm not convinced he's a better tacticians than Mourinho, who despite playing turgid football, knows how to win.

So...

who's going to be 1st, 2nd & 3rd??? 😛
Chelsea and City nailed on for 1st and 2nd in that order.

After that it is really hard to know.

Arsenal look like they will strengthen well again this summer but if they don't sign a quality striker who knows...

You will be still very strong next season, and the extra CL games will make f all difference really. Lots of young players who should improve. Your season will really depend on how much you miss Suarez and the quality of the replacements you bring in.

And with us it is anyones guess. Depends on who else we bring in this season, how long they take to settle and how long it takes LVG to impose his new ideas. Possibly two many unknowns which makes us least likely to get 3rd or 4th.

If I'm honest with myself I would say we will miss top 4 again this season but it will be very close.
The season after I think we will get back in and start to be title challengers again.

The main reason for the confidence is I think with FFP we will now have more resources than any other team in the PL, even without us having CL footy for a few years.

He has been limited in his tactics for this competition due to the players he has available. I do not expect him to use 5-3-2 at Man U at all. An attacking fluid 4-3-3 is much more his thing and even if they do not yet have the players he can at least buy in for it. It does only really have one striker position though which surely must go to Van Persie.

Can't see how we need 7 new players.

--------------------De Gea

Rafel-----Evans----CB-----Shaw

---------------Herrera----CM

-Mata---------Rooney----Januzaj

--------------------------RVP

I reckon two additional players puts us in a top 4 challenging position.
Which 5 additional players do you think need to be replaced?
