TWO NEW FULL-BACKS!

You seem to make these points quite often. Who has 'written them off'? Glen and Skully are the only ones who seem to be super negative, but when are they not?

And why is Markovic a more 'fashionable' signing? What does fashionable even mean in this context?

Go read the Manquillo thread, it's not just Skully and I don't think Glen has been negative at all about their signings. Alot of posters do seem to have made a decision on both players, based on scraps of info. Read earlier posts in this thread, I even offered caution myself, but I'm not going to not give the guys a chance to prove themselves, or post opinions based on fuck all.

And of course Markovic is more fashionable, it's part and parcel of opinions on here, if you're quick and skillful and play in an attacking role, you're exciting and warranted more leeway. If the fee is massive and you're foreign, even more so.

All that would apply to Moreno as well - foreign, quite expensive and marketed as a very talented attacking full-back.

If people are underwhelmed, it's because of two reasons - one, that many Sevilla fans didn't seem to rate him very highly, and two, his videos and his performance in the Europa League final didn't really show him out be very good.

That's not much to go by, but that's almost always going to be the basis for debate about any player in the transfer window. Why is that objectionable?

I can't find anyone who has made a definitive prediction about him being shit. And even if they have, surely that's part of forum debate and banter. Hardly anyone is saying that they want the player to fail.

The speed of Moreno will boost our counter-attacking a great deal. Teams will be shitting themselves with Coutinho, Sturridge, Moreno and Sterling breaking at pace.

Coutinho, Sturridge, Moreno, Markovic, Sterling, Ibe and Lallana (has very impressive stats and is deceptively fast, if anyone cares to check them out), that is enough to scare the shit out of any team in the PL. Fastest in Europe even, perhaps ?

This, plus he was almost completely anonymous in the super cup yesterday.

All the right hacks (incl Spanish) are pleased with this one.

Whether he's good enough, time will tell, but there's a general consensus that he's both attack minded and has good stats regards blocked crosses - two things we wanted improvement from at left-back.

I'm optimistic he'll turn out just fine.

I think it generally means:

Fashionable signing = one that get the headlines = skilful, pacey etc
Unfashionable signing = likely unsung hero/ grafter = maybe someone to 'do a job' like a DM or a solid defender etc.

Coutinho is not a very fast runner though. He beats players with skill, not raw speed.
