...has been told by an arbitration panel that he'll have to repay Palace a £2 mill.bonus, their legal costs and his own after leaving them before his contract was up.

Oh dear how sad never mind.

Love the rent. Will soon be over £100m if he don't pay it the next hour or so.

I don't really understand what the problem was in the first place. He was entitled to a bonus if he kept them up. He kept them up. The reports seem to suggest Palace objected to the fact that he asked for t to be paid earlier than scheduled, and then left. but surely leaving the club was irrelevant seeing as the bonus related to the previous season, and surely Palace could have refused to pay the bonus earlier than planned if they'd wanted, so I'm a bit baffled why little Tony ended up in such a mess.

I thought their gripe was two fold, one legal one moral - 1. He got his bonus awarded before he was contractually meant to, and he actually left employment there before the date he was entitled to it? 2. He left them 2 days before the start of the new season so stitched them up.

I can see the first point being relevant, even though it seems dubious to react THAT badly about something he was due anyway. I mean, by keeping them up he ensured the club would stay in the most lucrative league. It seems petty to complain he asked for the bonus a bit earlier than expected. I still don't see why the second point is relevant to the bonus. If you ask a manager to come in and keep you up, and he does so, then what he does next seems irrelevant to me. I mean, Leicester sacked their manager after he kept them up, I don't see there's any moral obligation for a manager to stay put. The whole thing seems incredibly silly.

He probably waited hoping that they would sack him instead of needing to walk out and not get any money for the rest of his contract.

Yeah, but that's not relevant for a bonus, is it? The whole thing seems weird to me. Mind you, it's Pulis, so feck him!

On my phone but just read some interesting shit the CP chairman said when he left. To do with him not owing them anything and he wishes him well and thanks him, only wish he'd stay, but he'd agreed to let him out of his contract.

Seems Pulis must not have got that signed off legally. Heh.

There is an element of taxes in that repayment, no? Probably why the papers cannot settle on a single figure-- they can't distinguish between fairly straight-forward transfer fees.
