Has flown back to the UK with a slight hamstring problem, but will be fit for the Dortmund game.

Yesterdays game and his injury history clearly highlights the need for one more quality attacker.
We need to get that sorted asap.

Lambert looked about a 100 kgs against City. Going into this season with just him and the injury prone Sturridge is suicide.

Badly need a top quality striker.

Agreed. I think Lambert will be a good signing for us and he needs that first goal to get going, but we some quality upfront.
The big question is who though...

it's a tough one , obviously the club are aware of the need but compared to times past they will be more conscious of short term V long term gain . If there isn't a player available who they really want i don't think they'll spend just for the sake of it (and despite the fans and media criticism ) .

We've been down that road before and look where it got us ... Aspas as backup. We'll definitely buy someone capable of leading the line, Bony in all probability.

Studge is the only quality striker we have (dont rate lambert personally and dont know why we bought him). To start the season without buying another QUALITY striker is just suicide with studge's injury record.

I dont think it will increase any fees. Its a minor niggle and we've played a lot more games over a short periode of time then what you expect in pre season.

Shame the Remy deal didnt work out.
Bony? Benzema if Falcao signs? Aubameyang?

We need two more strikers. Lambert will improve (and with his frame he'll look better when he's in red rather than yellow - talk about an over-reaction!), but as I've said a few times, if we got someone young who'd be on the bench but be a good long-term bet (such as Ings), and a major proven striker, we'll be okay, but the reserves and youth team are also weak when it comes to forwards, false or real ones, so we REALLY need to get on this and strengthen this area.

Attacking options are not looking good right now. Added to that we have that annual bane-- an early season international match from where Sturridge always comes back injured. The initial expectation must have been that Lambert (who is actually better than he has shown so far) would spell in exactly this situations when Sturridge is unavailable but he look desperately overweight and ponderous (maybe a personal fitness programme?) We definitely need another attacker in the meantime.

His link up play with other attackers can be very intelligent and good. I really think he's super nervous right now.
We need another forward but Lambert will have his moments.

Markovic can play as a striker, I'd be happy with that as then Ibe or Suso can come in and the attack still remains awesome. If on the other hand we straight up replaced Sturridge with a douche like Lambert or Remy, then the attack would become shit.

If Markovic is playing like a girl, that is when you'd bring on Lambert to switch to hoofball safe in the knowledge you're only getting 2mins at the end of match of the day so nobody outside of the stadium will be any wiser.

Lambert is way better than a player you bring on to do some hoofball. Attackers can feed off him with the one-twos.

Yeah, it can work if you get the right blend of players around him, it was a good idea yesterday to play Sterling and Ibe off him. He'll settled down, he just looks nervy at the minute. We've looked pretty good preseason, without having our best players, with a clearly off the boil Sturridge, etc. Hopefully that bodes well for if we buy a striker and when the likes of Lovren ease into the side.

But the problem is the attackers aren't playing well, so if he comes on as a sub it's because Sterling, Markovic, Coutinho and Sturridge couldn't shoot for shit and we're 1-0 down with time running out. The last thing I'd want Lambert to do is feed them more of the ball.

The wisest thing Roy Evans ever said was, 'In pre-season, strikers are shit'. He's right. They're creatures of timing. They'll be ready when they're really needed.

Or he's come on because Sturridge couldn't keep hold of the ball upfront and went his usual route when losing confidence of shooting onsite or trying to dribble past the entire back line and failing, when bringing others into play with quick insightful passing would work much better in breaking down the opponent.

Obviously a brilliant, skillful/pacey forward would be even better in that situation but Lambert will hopefully make things tick. He can't do anything on his own the way Sturridge can when he's on song, which is good in a way because he's always trying to make others tick.

Which is pretty much hoofball for all intents and purposes. Instead of the attackers passing in triangles and beating players with skill, we just send the ball to Lambert directly (by air or by grass it doesn't matter), and the tactic becomes to have Lambert shoot or lay it off/knock it down for someone else to shoot.

I still think your understating what he does. He thrives on dropping to the edge of the box and playing players in. That doesn't make it more direct, it just gives us another option of having someone their to link the play, he thrives on that sort of build up, more than a defender hoofing the ball up to him.

I think he has a good shot on him so defenders would come out to close him down, and leave plenty of space for him to play an easy through ball. But that was Southampton. In our case the defender is going to look at Raheem Sterling over his shoulder, look at Lambert on the edge of the box, look back again at Sterling, and then make the only logical choice.

Lambert doesn't strike me as a link player, he's more likely to be the shit player who is going to get all the space he wants to shoot.
