Lambert looked about a 100 kgs against City. Going into this season with just him and the injury prone Sturridge is suicide.
Badly need a top quality striker.
it's a tough one , obviously the club are aware of the need but compared to times past they will be more conscious of short term V long term gain . If there isn't a player available who they really want i don't think they'll spend just for the sake of it (and despite the fans and media criticism ) .
we desperately need one more quality striker. not getting one will mean we'll struggle to finish 4th.

If Markovic is playing like a girl, that is when you'd bring on Lambert to switch to hoofball safe in the knowledge you're only getting 2mins at the end of match of the day so nobody outside of the stadium will be any wiser.
Lambert is way better than a player you bring on to do some hoofball. Attackers can feed off him with the one-twos.

But the problem is the attackers aren't playing well, so if he comes on as a sub it's because Sterling, Markovic, Coutinho and Sturridge couldn't shoot for shit and we're 1-0 down with time running out. The last thing I'd want Lambert to do is feed them more of the ball.
Or he's come on because Sturridge couldn't keep hold of the ball upfront and went his usual route when losing confidence of shooting onsite or trying to dribble past the entire back line and failing, when bringing others into play with quick insightful passing would work much better in breaking down the opponent.
Obviously a brilliant, skillful/pacey forward would be even better in that situation but Lambert will hopefully make things tick. He can't do anything on his own the way Sturridge can when he's on song, which is good in a way because he's always trying to make others tick.
Which is pretty much hoofball for all intents and purposes. Instead of the attackers passing in triangles and beating players with skill, we just send the ball to Lambert directly (by air or by grass it doesn't matter), and the tactic becomes to have Lambert shoot or lay it off/knock it down for someone else to shoot.
I still think your understating what he does. He thrives on dropping to the edge of the box and playing players in. That doesn't make it more direct, it just gives us another option of having someone their to link the play, he thrives on that sort of build up, more than a defender hoofing the ball up to him.
