you arent wrong in anything you say, up until you say nobody is having their mind changed about lucas. Well look at Carra, was never good enough to pull on a red shirt to greatest Cb ever for some, and even for me who really doesnt rate him as a footballer he just has something you cant bottle. Kyut is another example, derided to the point of embarrasment a couple of seasons ago, and now not many have a problem with the lad......most of us would like to see a tricky quick tricky winger stuck out there, but we all know that Dirk will do a bloody hard shift, pops up with goals and is actually a pretty good all round player.
For me lucas is the same. He took time to settle but at 22 he was an integral part of a midfield that finished second in the EPl and at 23 was one of our more consistent player in a side that finished 6th. There arent many you could bring in from the prem at that age that have a 2nd and 6th on the old CV. Its all money in the bank. And dont forget this lad was young South american player of the year 4 seasons ago, i think that young player had to be pushed deep down in order to just get a foot hold in a Rafa Benitez English premier league team, and i think his ability to knuckle down and do as he was asked to do and not what ideally he would have liked to do, shows a level of intelligence that all bodes well for the future.
Roy hodgson now has him. I hope he keeps him. I like what i am seeing from him recently, and i think there is a Brazilian internal midfielder in there waiting to emerge like a butterfly. He has done all the hard work, he has diligently learnt about fast and furious English football, and now is the time to draw on that experience and start to play up. Because under hodgson it actually looks like we may play some nice stuff, and thats where he will start toadd more value in my opinion. In a tense tight disciplined team where its the small details that win or loose games, mistakes are everything, and lucas has made his fair share .But it has to be said that given no liscence to get forward it was always goingto be a joyklsee thankless job Young lucas was asked to do, more akin to the life of a goal jkeeper than a midfielder. But the boy manned up and did what he was asked. And for that, much respect is called for and increasingly even given in the media. He's not Alonso and hes not Gerrard and hes not Mascherano, if anything hes got a little bit of all three, the very modern utility midfielder, and that is why the rafas and hopefully the hodgsons of this world (those that know more than you or i) rate the lad so highly.
Why would Gerrard revel in the fact that we hadn't won anything for four years? I think he's a lot more ambitious than Carragher, so the lack of success would hit him much harder. Carragher knows he's on to a good number here; the team is set up to accommodate his glaring deficiencies, no other players say "boo" to him, he's got attack dogs ready to go into PR battles for him, and a shed load of fans giving it the "but, but, but he's one of us" line whenever there is a discussion of his place in the team - at what other Club would he have all that?
When Skertl was signed and he was moved to right back. Remember the histrionics against Fulham when the Almighty Carragher put in a routine cross that lead to a goal? The poor lamb didn’t want to play right back and he made sure his media stooge at the Sunday S** let everyone know about it.
If Mash does go then Poulsen or Lucas instead is still pretty tasty!
