I thought Rooney was good.

Think again.

Yep, I did that.

Same conclusion.

Maybe it's just because I'm comparing him to Heskey, Lampard, Lennon, Milner, Crouch and SWP, but he looked pretty classy and dangerous to me.

A few points:

1) Everyone said that GK was your weakest link. You have to feel for Green - and pray it's his last howler for the tourney (if Capello doesn't drop him)
2) Lennon and Rooney are on different pages. There were 3 times he should have given the ball early to Rooney ... He's very poor with the final ball.
3) Capello should have bought Adam Johnson. SWP is not a LW ...
4) John Terry was fantastic

Terry won every physical challenge, but got done for pace at times, as usual for England.

Assuming King ISN'T crocked for the whole tournament, he has to play. If he is crocked, I'd sooner play Dawson than Upson any day of the week.

Is Dawson quicker than Upson? Let's face it, the whole quartet - Terry, Carra, Upson and Dawson - will look like statues if Messi or Torres run at them.

Rooney was far from his peak, but he's still easily our best forward, and the only reason anyone's suggesting otherwise is that he's an Everton supporter who plays for Man United. Fair enough, I suppose, but don't pretend you're being objective about it.

Yes he is our best forward. But he wasn't tonight and that's nothing to do with who he plays or played for.

I'm not sure which of Upson and Dawson is the quicker TBH but, having seen Upson play for England before, I'm convinced he isn't international class, whereas Dawson might be (and certainly had a more impressive domestic season).

At times England as a whole reminded me of LFC this last season - static, forever receiving the ball standing stock still and therefore being unable to get any fluidity into their attacking play. I didn't think Rooney had a particularly good game (though of course he's our best forward, by a street) but he wasn't the only one.

England were meh, USA were poor, shit finishing, and shit goal keeping were the reason it was a draw.

Neither team will do anything, and we already knew that.

The token US commentator made me want to kill myself, and we already knew that as well. "Dempsey does the unexpected, and gets a reward".... erm, yea, that's one way of construing what happened, if you are completely retarded.

heskey starting? Sack him off

Swp was gash too and lennon not much better. Defoe and joe cole to start on friday.

Keep green in goal.

Sorted!

Then you're quite simply wrong.

Anyone who thinks that Heskey (and Im certainly not his biggest fan) wasnt the best English player on the pitch was watching a different game.

Also, Lennon's performance HAS to be up there with Geoff Thomas and Carlton Palmer

I though Heskey, Gerrard and Johnson were all excellent.
Rooney had a good second half. Lampard and the wide lads were awful.
We were unlucky not to win regardless of the rick. Rooney, Heskey, swp and Lennon all had chances but bottled them. Lennon didn't even shoot the coward.
I'm not scapegoating anyone mind you. Controlled the tempo and most of the ball. I'd like to see Barry come in for milner but that's the only change I'd make.
Bit of a dissapointment but we go again.

Bunny and Oncy have called it spot on.

A few other points, Heskey is taking far too much slack and Carragher not enough.

We had chances to win the game, but we didn't execute. That will come, I'm not too bothered. What is worrying is our defence, which resembled a rabble at times.

I thought Crouch would come on and win it for us. It's how he seems to be in an England shirt, but alas..

I dont think the USA were poor. They look like a well organized team with reasonable attacking threat. They started the same way in the confed cup. As the tournament progressed they grew in confidence and turned it on against Spain and Brazil. I think they are capable of creating an upset in this tournament.

I am surprised at the good ratings Heskey received. He did win a lot of flick ons but that is not enough at this level. He goosed the easiest chance of the game and offered no threat whatsoever.

I thought Johnson was the best English player on the pitch. He went past players and put in a couple of decent crosses. He went on a mazy run in the first half and nearly scored a wonder goal. Gerrard was good but I was disappointed at the way he defended for the US goal. Dempsey took him on and was able to get the shot in.

Both Carra and Terry are used to a Mascher type protection in front of them and looks like they may need that in this tournament. Both will be targeted by strikers with pace.

England desperately need a goalkeeper who plays for a club that does not defend all the time.

Having said that drawing with USA is not as bad as some people are making it out. This is a team which defeated Spain. Even Italy started slowly last time and turned it on after the quarter finals.

Green cost England and frankly him getting the nod over James was shocking even by Capello's standards. Barry will make a difference.

Not the end of the world but its a game England should have won. Back to the drawing board.

I must admit i'm glad that the world cup has started, it certainly helps me to forget about our troubles for a little while.

It disappoints me a bit that even we Reds are praising Magic for his attacking play only. I thought he was solid defensively as well. It's about time we kicked this whole "Johnson can't defend" exaggeration into the long grass, even if - in fact, especially because - the media seem wedded to it.

Fabio should keep him in the team spidey!

Football is all about entertainment nowadays, and Green is very entertaining.

Sometimes it's just impossible not to mate.

Is it still too soon for the England fans to watch it and find it funny yet?

Not really. TBH, as I was watching it alone I actually had a (somewhat horrified) laugh at the time. I do feel sorry for Green though.

There's quite a bit of reactionary shite being written now as you would expect, but the fact is we created 4 or 5 good chances after we scored and we had all the posession. USA created one chance all game that green saved, aside from that they just hit shots from range and got REAL lucky with one of them.
Rooney had 3 players round him everytime he got the ball and still put one on a plate for wright Phillips. Lennon did some good work but didn't deliver enough quality.
Lampard dissapointed but he's not a holding midfielder, and with Barry in there for the next game he should get a lot better.
And Green, well non of our keepers are flawless, and you wouldn't have been suprised had that been James making a mistake, so to suggest it was a bad decision after the mistake is just reactionary and nonsense.
We should have scored a couple more in spite of that, and a bit of composure from Heskey, Phillips and Lennon and the USA are on the end of a hiding. I'm glad that didn't happen to be fair because the weight of expectation would be ridiculous. USA beat Spain and hammered brazil for an hour last year, I think we got just about what we expected/deserved. Were a second tier team after Brazil, Spain and maybe Argentina and we started against our toughest group opposition.
The important thing is not to overreact. I don't think Fabio will, I hope not anyway. I do think Joe Cole should start though, he offers more threat than any other wide player.
The rest was ok.
