The worry with hart is he is unproven at top level. He could be good yes, but he could also be another kirkland, carson, or foster.

It was easy to spot Carson was useless before he got selected against Croatia and fucked up and it was easy to spot Green is clueless at this level before his selection and subsequent fuck up. Contrary to those two muppets, it's easy to see that Hart is a quality keeper who will be England's No.1 for many years when he's finally given his chance.

I still can't believe he went with Green. I reckon he was a compromise between Hart's ability and James' experience. However, he just isn't good enough and couldn't handle the big occasion.

He has to be dropped and I'd get James in. Then Hart as first choice after the tournament.

On another note, Carra was a liability last night.

Liability is a bit strong, but yeah, he didn't play well.

Agree with everything else.

Carra's lack of pace exposed him and us several times and we we're lucky they didn't make us pay. He got booked early on, skinned by altidore for the shot green saved and he was very very close to not being sent off for blocking off altidore. I reckon a few refs might have called that a foul.

I think Carra is a great player but him and Terry don't compliment each other at all

Also, I can't believe everyone thinks that save by green was anything special. It was his near post and he very nearly put it in.

I thought a draw in the end was a fair result, maybe England just shading it on territory and shots at goal. After a great start England became static and uninventive and predictable.

Nothing was expected from the USA and they delivered, though I thought Donovan looked able and the physicality of the strikers made our defence look off the pace on occasion.

I didn't think the system suited Rooney and I thought Gerrard may have been more effective further up the pitch, Lampard was ineffective and Cole appeared to be under instruction to limit his forays forward. I think Barry will add some balance next time out.

I think Green has to be replaced because he'll be under intense pressure and will undermine the defences confidence

I still expect England to qualify from the group though they'll make hard work of it.

I could see the logic in selecting him, and maybe even starting him.

But there's no logic left for his continued presence in the side. You only get one chance in a WC and he's blown it, IMO.

I'm not so sure. It's also dangerous to have players playing with the knowledge that one gaffe can end their tournament. Perhaps it's different with keepers but that kind of mentality is sure to stifle creativity and confidence elsewhere in the side.

Hahahahaha.

See Ross, I was right, it was obviously a defeat!

The supporters I was watching with at the pub felt it was too. Personally I don't think it's all that unexpected nor do I think it will ultimately matter all that much. If they can't rebound from this kind of setback they were never going to go far anyways. You need the mental strength to persevere when things don't go as planned.

Perhaps I missed it but I didn't see any of the England players going to console or support Green after the gaffe either. If true that's poor form. You'd never see that in hockey. Goalie lets in a bad goal, the players go over and tap his pads with their sticks and offer support. (Again, I might have missed it, so correct me if I'm wrong.)

That was something I noticed last night too DSE - they all turned their backs on him.

TBF Shanks once said, after a draw in which we'd battered the opposition for 90 minutes without managing to score, "We won 0-0".

A mistake of that magnitude should be the end or your tournament.

And with keepers the mistakes are always costly, but I'd say the same of a CB who delivered an under-hit back pass. Footballer's should be able to handle that.

Up until Pepe Reina, we had a succession of keepers for maybe 20 years who once they made a mistake it took them weeks to get over it. Green doesn't have the luxury of time.

I have constructed my Green effigy in readiness of our exit in the group stages. I will be burning it on top of Nelsons Column sometime in the next fortnight.

Puts me in mind of a joke from a uni.rag mag years ago. What's black and slimy and slides down Nelson's column? Winnie Mandela.

Joe Hart went and spoke to him at the end of the half too

"c'mon, my turn now"

A great start as England captain for Gerrard.

Unfortunately there was a lack of balance and, as a result, too many shit performances.

Carragher looked an absolute liability out there and seems finished at this level.

I wonder if Fabio wishes he could pick his squad again.
