can we still hope spurs to screw up the title and sell thier best players this summer or does it look like they are the real deal.

I think it all depends on Pochettino. He's done a brilliant job, clearly, and rationally he's got lots of incentives to stay - location, funds, quality of squad, European Cup football, new stadium coming. But Spurs, despite current form, aren't going to be as big a name as Madrid, for instance, so if they come calling in the summer he might be tempted. But I don't think there are many clubs who will be able to poach their players, and even if there are one or two players who want to move to the Barcelona's of this world, Spurs don't seem to have any one player their team massively depends on.

Apart from their only striker Harry Kane

Well, yeah, but I don't think the team relies on him to the extent that if he left he'd be irreplaceable in the same way Suarez is. Suarez had a galvanising effect on the team with his work-rate and the psychological effect he had on the opposition. Rodgers admitted he set the team up around Suarez, whereas that's not what Pochettino has done.

Yeah, but regardless of the type of goalscorer, having an ultra reliable one makes a huge difference to a side.

It means you're more likely to go ahead early in a game, or capitalise on a chance to get a second earlier, makes a massive difference to the outcome of a game.

Use us at the weekend for an example. Sturridge on top form buries at least two more goals. I doubt they'd have been the only additions, cos the entire team relaxes & plays more expansively, whilst their team loses all confidence, we'd have fucking destroyed them.

Take Kane out of that side & they'd lose more than just his goals.

I'd argue they depend on him more, sure they still have four games to go, but after Suarez we had.

Sturridge 21
Gerrard 13
Sterling 9

After Kane they have

Ali 10
Eriksen 6
Lamela 4

There only other striker has a grand total of two.

Kane has a very good supporting cast, but he's the sole reason they're in a title race.

Well they'd need a striker who can press and finish, but Kane's not at Suarez's level and wouldn't be so difficult to replace. You look at Suarez's skill set and there are maybe one or two other players in world football who could come close to a like for like replacement. The guy we wanted - Sanchez - wouldn't have replaced his goals but would have had the work-rate and a decent proportion of the skill.

Kane's a very reliable goalscorer and obviously that's played a huge part in their title challenge, but he's not so unique that if he left they'd have to restructure their entire way of playing because they won't be able to get anyone like him.

You'll be surprised. Here's their league season so far:

Games 1 ~ 6: Kane - 0 goals; result: 2W - 3D - 1L
Games 8 ~ 9: Kane - 0 goals; result: 2D
Games 14 ~ 16: Kane - 0 goals; result: 0W - 2D - 1L
Games 19 ~ 21: Kane - 0 goals; result: 1W - 1D - 1L
Game 25: Kane - 0 goals; result: 1W
Game 27: Kane - 0 goals; result: 1W
Game 28: Kane - 0 goals; result: 1L
Game 33: Kane - 0 goals; result: 1W

In 18 league games that Kane didn't score this season, they compiled a 6W - 8D - 4L record.
When he's scored, they've got a 13W - 3D - 0L record.

He's also played every single league game for them, and I think we can safely assume that without Kane there drawing away attention, Alli wouldn't have the same room to run into the box to finish chances.

Disagree, especially when you look at their stats. It's far too much of an oversimplification, and ignores Lloris, their centre backs, their midfield, the adaptation of Lamela etc.

I'm obviously not explaining myself properly - I'm not saying he's been inconsequential, I'm saying his particular set of skills wouldn't be as difficult to find in another striker as Suarez's would have, and therefore if he left they wouldn't have to restructure the rest of the team to accomodate someone new.

It doesn't ignore them, it respects the fact that Kane is the reason that they're winning matches, you don't just simply replace a striker who's scored 24 goals in 34 games.

Rafa's tactics are spot-on – with a bit more quality in the last pass Newcastle could have put the City away already. Still 1:1 now.
