PFA Player of the Year

Gerrard can win it next season when we retain the league title. And he'd deserve it too, rather than that honorary one Giggs got. Along the way, Stevie will bang in 15 penalties, head in 4 corners, and grab 13 assists with passes from deep to Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Konoplyanka.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is among the best deep-lying midfielders in the world, according to manager Brendan Rodgers.
Gerrard, 33, was moved into a deeper role in January, and he has helped his side into a two-point lead atop of the Premier League table.
Rodgers said Gerrard's all-round qualities meant he deserved to be considered one of the best 'controlling' players in the world.
"There are not many players who can do what he can - be one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe and then switch to be up there as arguably the best controlling player," the Northern Irishman said.
"You look at the holding players in European football, players with top teams and top clubs, and I wouldn't swap him for any of them because of what he can give the club.
"He's a playmaker, unique. His intelligence and reading of the game allows him to orchestrate the game with those playmaking skills from that position.
"But he can also defend, tackle. And what he probably doesn't get enough credit for as well is his reading of the game situations."
Gerrard's role as part of a defensive midfield duo or at the base of a diamond has given the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Jordan Henderson and Raheem Sterling more freedom in the attacking third.
Rodgers said he always expected Gerrard to play the role, but felt he needed time to develop his understanding of the position.
"I look at how we can maximise all the players and get the most out of them, and from the first day I came in here, I told him that was the role I envisaged him playing," Rodgers said.
"With Steven, he's not just going to take what you say, there has to be a rationale behind it - a reason as to why.
"He probably needed time - which he did - to go away and think about it, study it and talk it through before he could go out there.
"Steven is not going to come in blind and not want to contribute to team. That was very important for us - the timing. Thankfully it's worked well."

The 41st PFA Awards to be held in the Grosvenor House in London on Sunday 27th April 2014. PFA Members from 100 clubs have been voting and the shortlists for the nominees will be announced at 12pm on Friday, 18th April 2014.

So we've these shortlists, do they just choose the x highest voted for in each category and then everyone votes again on the night? Or do they just choose the top x and then reveal the winners on the night?

Controversial striker Luis Suarez has been voted Player of the Year by his fellow stars, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People.

And Liverpool’s entire squad will turn up in force to support their team-mate at the Professional Footballers Association awards dinner in London on Sunday night.

But while boss Brendan Rodgers has given the go-ahead for the Reds' players to attend the glitzy bash, Jose Mourinho has BANNED his Chelsea squad from going.

Moody Mourinho has told his stars they can’t go to the awards night, where team-mate Eden Hazard was nominated for the main prize.

The gala dinner doesn’t break the Blues' 48-hour curfew rules ahead of Wednesday’s return Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge. But Mourinho has still put the block on them attending.
Chelsea had taken a table at the event but Mourinho wants his players in training on Monday morning to work on a game plan to beat Madrid.

That’s in stark contrast to Rodgers, who has sanctioned a major night out for his squad.

The players and their wives will fly to London on a private plane after their crunch title clash with Chelsea at Anfield.
They will see Uruguayan bad-boy Suarez complete his rehabilitation in the eyes of his fellow players after past ugly incidents.

Suarez was banned for eight games and fined £40,000 for racially abusing Patrice Evra in a league game against Manchester United at Anfield in October 2011.

Then, having told Liverpool officials he would shake the defender’s hand in the return game in February 2012, Suarez snubbed Evra (above) before kick-off.

And a year ago he caused outrage by biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in a live TV game at Anfield.
That brought a huge club fine, a 10-match ban and calls for him to be thrown out of the English game.

But since returning from suspension last September, he has scored 30 goals in 30 games to boost Liverpool’s title charge.

Massive party is probably OTT. There will be strict rules about alcohol I'm guessing.
Its a great statement of support to Luis, brings the team together and takes the players minds of the last 2 games for a while.
Only positive imho.

This. If there really were a major party in the offing I'd be concerned, but that's not what this is going to be.

I seem to remember there was usually some kind of awards event in London in the week when we were either leading the title hunt or in the cup final. They used to interview the players on the telly as they were relaxing before the big game. I can't see the problem now - it distracts them, they see teammates getting awards, they relax.

I hope you're e all right. I just have a worry that players knowing they're jetting off to London on a private plane for a party of any kind hours after kick off may just distract a tiny bit from the normal preparation.

Rodgers has got every step right in this regard so far so I guess I just have to trust he'll play a blinder again.

Norwich & Chelsea, I thought that was the job for the club shrink ?

Maybe FSG should consider changing to Worrier as our shirt sponsor next season, given the state of some of you guys.

Stop pissing yourselves worrying about every damn thing. A clean sweep of the individual player awards tonight will (hopefully) be just the first of the great accomplishments in this incredible and admittedly nervy journey for fans, players and staff alike. The lads deserve to be down there together cheering the guys who've had a gargantuan role in this journey.

I'm shitting myself about whether the fact I put a fork back the wrong way jinxed us. It's working, so leave my neuroses (sp?) alone!

Lets get back to positive shit.

Cech, Coleman, Cahill, Kompany, Shaw, Lallana, Gerrard, Y Toure, Hazard, Sturridge, Suarez

PFA team of the year.

Congrats to our three lads well deserved.
