With news of the imminent arrival of the big belgian, is there a potential star player on the cards before the window shuts?

If so

1 - What type of player would you want this to be?
2 - Which player would you want this to be?
3 - How will you want us to line up with this addition?

A DM if Lucas or Allen is sold. Otherwise we won't sign another. Right now the CM options for the 2 are Milner, Hendo, Can, Allen, Lucas.

A LB is a non starter whilst Enrique is still on the books. I guess we also need to give Moreno at least half a season to show he's not utter garbage.

I suspect the rest of our business will be dependent upon player sales.

In other words, we will sign fuck all.

Get rid of Balotelli, Lambert, Borini, Enrique, Wisdom, for about 20mill, and get a DM. Never going to happen though, the boss would rather buy another AM.

Paul Joyce was saying this was our last, he's usually rather accurate, which is a shame because Irramendable or whatever he's called would have been great.

If the owners hadn't been selling our stars constantly, people would be really unhappy with what they're spending.

If we'd have made considerable money from the sales of the scraps, we'd surely have a significant amount of money left in the pot. The owners probably see them going out on loan or going for pennies if that's the case.

Maybe they just don't want to spend the money.

With the potential sales to come I don't see this being our last and it's probably just bluff. There are still LB rumours but maybe Gomez being tried out there today may indicate he's going to be #2 and later 3 behind Moreno and Flanno when he returns. I still hope we'll see Illarammendi on the books.

Errr, they've spent about 175 mill net since taking over.
We' just get loads of transfers wrong and have a hard time learning from our mistakes.
We've been dickheads as you say.

I think last summer proved that the more players you don't quite know what to do with, the better, so yeah I'm all for getting another one in.

In fact, I think we should aim for a full XI each summer.

------------- Bogdan
Clyne ---- Gomez -- X ---- X
--------- Milner ----- X
Firmino ------------------- Origi
--------- Benteke -- Ings

So there you go, we need a CB, LB and a CM.

Three more please.

A dm of some sorts is essential for any system we play.

Claisse, who signed for saints for 8 mill would have been perfect

Enrique has just one year left, is nearly 30, has had lots of injuries and played bugger all last season.

We won't be getting a fee for him, just getting shut of his wages

Apparently The Metro yesterday suggested that we are likely to beat Man City to the signing of Fulham prodigy Patrick Roberts (for £10m). Not sure how much truth is in this BUT he was the only Fulham squad player who didn't get a run out in their friendly match last weekend and Fulham fans are speculating that it's because a deal has been done. Some other sites suggest Celtic are gonna bid and other sites suggest United are still sniffing around.

Don't know what to think about this as £10m on a relatively untried youngster is a big risk but believe me this kid has mad skillz.

That's that kid with the rapid feet, sign sign sign!

Really hope we push for a holding midfielder.

Illaramendi would be realistic and decent value for money at around 15m if thats the reported figure he's available for.

Think we need someone to sit and dictate the football whilst allowing milner/coutinho to push forward. Lucas is not that player anymore and Can is still young and needs to learn.

Maybe Illarramendi, if Rafa lets him go – in this case one of Lucas or Allen will need to leave. And like I said before, I would cut our losses on Lovren and sign another CB.

Whist I do think we could to with a quality CB to partner Sakho, We have Llori, Gomez as potential options, so I wouldn't put this as a priority.

Lucas and Allen scream average, and we would do well to offload them to bring in some quality, ideally Allen gone. Don't get me wrong there was a period where Lucas was very good, but that time has well and truly passed.

United have done well to sign Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger, both players can control a game from that area, and thats the type of quality we need from deep.

I don't think it's disastrous if we don't sign anyone else.

DM - Lucas and Can
LB - Gomez and Moreno
CB - Gomez can potentially play, so can Ilori (when fit again)

In attack across the three or four positions we have Lallana, Ibe, Ings, Origi, Sturridge, Benteke, Coutinho and Firmino that's pretty much 2+ players per position.

Ideally the lad from Fulham would be good or an extra defender (maybe), but I don't expect us to buy big.

We've spent:

Clyne £12m
Firmino £29m
Gomez £5m
Ings £7m
Origi £10m (last summer)
Benteke £32m

plus Bogdan, Milner and a few kids. All in all without considering whatever we paid Milner and excluding Origi, we've spent in the region of £84m (minus the fee for Sterling). It's still quite alot.

A defensive, holding midfielder is an absolute must for me. But Rodgers doesn't believe in defending so it won't happen.
