Surely this cunt would be pretty far down your list.

He'd be a long way down MY list, that's for sure. I'm pretty certain he'd keep Sunderland in the PL though. At that level, he's proved himself a competent manager.

I agree. And it's pretty much all Sunderland will be after for now. Someone who can come in, not spend too much, consolidate and stay in the Prem.

He's done a decent job with Wigan - they were in freefall when he joined.

And with signings like Palacious, Valencia and to a point, Zaki, has shown he can do well in the market.

I'm surprised Wigan have stood aside so easily.

Ugh, why can't he go away.

Sunderland "we need a big name manager with ambition"

Steve Bruce five games in to next season after a loss "well, we can't compete with the likes of Spurs, and I think we are doing a good job. The referee cost us yet again, but we are a small club who doesn't get those calls. Just remember that nothing is ever my fault!"

He did a decent enough job with Birmingham before that (didn't Wigan pay about 3.5m to them to get Bruce?)

His transfer record over the last 3 or so years has been pretty impressive to be fair.

That was McCleish, no?

After all the ass kissing and "a big club will come knocking for him soon" by Whelan, he ends up at Sunderland with little to no fuss. Ridiculous.

Noticed on the BBC that Wigan are approaching Martinez... shrewd.

Yea, but it wasn't his fault.

GOOGLE even thinks he's a moaner:

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,220,000 for steve bruce excuses.
Results 1 - 10 of about 343,000 for ferguson excuses
Results 1 - 10 of about 74,500 for wenger excuses
Results 1 - 10 of about 47,500 for benitez excuses

He also got them promoted twice, and had PL finishes of tenth, twelfth and thirteenth.

Bruce is a horrible ex-Manc fat-headed twat, but he's also a competent mid-level PL manager and it's silly to suggest otherwise.

And wasn't Noiyall banging on about having to get a "big name" manager in order to attract "big name" players?

Steve Bruce?

I agree entirely with his record overall and haven't said otherwise, but I wouldn't class getting B'ham relegated as being 'decent enough'.

He's got the second worst nose in football after Mick McCarthy and his amazing 'Which fucking way is he looking' schnozle.

Isn't Gordon Cowans still involved somewhere?

Oh and I'm not surprised that old fat head himself has run off from another club at the mere sniff of money.

Okay so he has shown himself to be reasonably competent but he has hardly shown himself to be the most loyal of managers. He'll probably keep them up but ultimately he'll be off as soon as another club with some money show an interest, and I doubt he will leave a great situation behind when he does.

Martinez seems to have the makings to become a top manager. Andy Scott at Brentford, DiMatteo at MK Dons and, unfortunately it has to be said, Darren Ferguson at Peterbro are the other bright-young-things that are showing good potential to become Premier League managers.

I think Bruce is a decent choice for Sunderland.

He usually spends money quite well, and they've got some money to spend. I could think of a lot worse options than him to take over there.

He's a major Newcastle fan and been linked with the job heavily on two occasions. How that will influence his relationship with Sunderland fans will be interesting.

Yes, very shrewd.

He'll be managin in the Premier League within a year or two anyway, regardless of whether Swansea make it there. I hope he brings a couple of that team with him too, jsut to see how they'd fare in the big time.

I hope he doesn't end up at Wigan though. They're a shite club, with no support, and no right to be in the PL. I'd prefer to see him get a decent club with real ambition.

Despite being physically repellent, Bruce does OK at shit clubs.

And Sunderland are a shit club.

So he should do OK.

I'd have Martinez as manger when Rafa leaves.
