Make or break season for Nunez?

Yeah that was my main problem with him. He wasn't pressing and he wasn't listening. If he's turned into the superpressinator over the summer then he's got every chance of not being called fucking shite every few days on here. I know this impacts him deeply.

The turn around for this team started when Klopp issued his "pressing is the ticket into this side" proclamation.

@StevieM You have to admit now we have one hell of player?

He’s on form at the minute and it’s great - he’s improved his link up play and his movement and if he can maintain all that consistently across a season, then yes.

However, his first touch still sometimes lets him down and his finishing is still variable - going from excellent to shite in the blink of an eye.

I note the highlights above aren’t of him actually scoring - he missed quite a few - but played well.

I see Gakpo also had a good game for the Dutch against Greece & Diaz was MotM in Columbia’s game.

Good that we have options.

This is why I wasn't afraid to lose Salah in Sept, the 4 forwards we have can all raise their games, and make up salah's shortfall. Nunez still has lots of learning to do but his time with Bielsa and Suarez will teach him loads. If I was in the club hierarchy, I'd ask if he [Suarez] wanted to get his coaching badges whilst working for Liverpool.

Suarez back at Liverpool? No thanks.
What makes you think he would be any good at coaching anyway?
Plus if I remember, his grasp of English back then was very limited. Not the best idea unless he wants to be Darwin’s maid…

couldn't give a shit if he wanted to be darwins fluffer, if it got Nunez have 2+ goal involvements every game

He’s already doing that now and Klopp certainly isn’t going to bring an overpaid maid for the sake of it.Let’s move on…

I mean - it’s not as if those players are creating everything from scratch - just a little under 1/2 our goals involve Salah scoring or assisting - you take that out and it likely doesn’t get replicated.

Add to that - Jota is one of our more injury prone players and all of a sudden those options start to diminish and we start playing people out of position and then the complaints start when they’re not delivering what Salah delivered.

I'm confident our attack would have coped till Jan - our defence not so much.
The Saudis will be back in Jan, and as FSG won't increase player investment without player sales, selling Salah stands our best chance of rebuilding the squad. With or without Salah, we are not winning the league. However, top 4 is on.

Then we’re better off waiting until next summer.

Another phenomenal cameo.

The difference between Jota / Gakpo and Diaz / Nunez is night and day, are people finally starting to see this? Good, I thought you might.

If we're gonna be challenging on all fronts, we need to keep our front 3 fit.....our most dangerous, explosive, threatening front 3. Diaz Nunez and Doak. No I'm kidding, and Mo.

We need to keep all 5 fit and fresh, rotating them and Doak getting the odd bit of game time too.

Darwin has, in some ways, looked better when he comes on as a sub as opposed to when he starts - not that it’s a pretty big sample size.

There’ll be times Gakpo & Jota outshine the other forwards - yesterday was as much about system than individuals.

I like that we have options to change things now - that’s been lacking in past.

You have to understand that's how Jota is and always has been.

He can be invisible for 89 mins and does nothing of note, then pops up and scores a goal in the 90th min.

I think it's clear at this point that not only do we not know our best midfield 3 after the summer rebuild, but we are yet to figure out which combination of forwards is best suited to getting the most out of that midfield. So far Diaz has looked our best attacker to me in the time he's been on the pitch while Mo is clearly ahead in terms of goals/assists numbers. Until we figure out the best system and the players that fit into it we are going to see days like today where it looks turgid for long stretches and then completely changes when we alter the system/personnel.

Good win with a disjointed team missing both our starting CBs, Trent and an Ali-Mac who was still somewhere over the Atlantic at 30,000 ft.

Many of these players had also travelled and played two games over the break whilst Wolves were resting and planning. And it showed in that first half.

Be pleased we now have players that can pull it off even when far from peak fitness and mental acuity. An excellent 3 points all things considered.
