Make or break season for Nunez?

From what I've seen Nunez played well? Certainly no worse than half the mongs in the squad

He was quiet generally compared to what he usually is but he had a big hand in all our goals/big chances.

But you're still gonna have silly fans in uproar because you know, he cost £65-80m and he's not scoring hattricks from 3 chances every game.

He also had a hand in the foul leading to the penalty and it was his run and pass to Dom to make Gravenberch's chance.

We're the only team to have created more chances away to Brighton this season then the home team. I dont think this is the beacon of truth about our structure in either midfield or defense. Everyone struggles against them at the Amex. Last season we lost both games without even putting up a fight.
Yesterday we should have won. Progress.

Nunez was very good, again.

Slightly better Origi, are you alright Stevie? You been sippin' too much Aussie liquor again? He set up both goals today....if Grav scores the tap in he's basically played a big hand in all 3.

Origi scored some big goals, unforgettable goals but let's be honest he was pretty ordinary most of the time. Nunez scored more in his first season than any one of Origi's 6 seasons or whatever it was. Scored more last season than Origi's last 3 seasons here.

At this point I'm pretty sure you're just looking to pin the blame on him whenever possible when we don't win and it's becoming tiresome tbh, instead of asking why Ali and Mac are fucking up, why Robbo is playing like a sunday league, why Grav isn't scoring a simple tap in, why we constantly defend set pieces like a bunch of spastics you look to Nunez?

There’s no denying Robbo isn’t playing well and Mac A didn’t have a good game.

Diaz was worse than Nunez, so no. I’m not laying all the blame at Nunez door, nor am I calling him shit.

I do however think he’s still a bit too erratic to be completely relied upon.

I don’t think he played particularly well yesterday - he wasn’t completely awful and he certainly wasn’t the worst player on the pitch, but neither was he the best.

If we were playing again next week, I’d start Jota through the middle and have Nunez on the bench - I think stating that Nunez has, up to now, done his best work coming off the bench is fair.

I wouldn’t expect you to agree.

There's probably an element of truth in him suffering the Haaland comparison. But there's probably more scrutiny applied because he cost (or will cost) £80M.
He scored 9 Prem goals last season, he has 3 this season (2 off the bench v Newcastle). He has 2 assists, both last week.
He's showing definite signs of improvement and I like the general 'chaos' theme that accompanies him. But, put quite simply, for the outlay the output needs to improve significantly. Maybe it will, who knows?
I don't think he's a starter when everyone's fit, not that they ever are. The team is better when Gakpo plays. And if we need a goal, I still think I'd favour Jota over him, albeit he is hot and cold as well.

Nunez is in a fortunate position at the moment in that Gakpo is injured and even when he's back, Jota and Diaz are not performing to their best so there's potential for him to leapfrog them on the left.

The man is a monster - absolute monster - probably the best number 9 in the world, a modern regen of an R9/Torres - skill, pace, power - there is nothing more you would want. I know so many of you have had your heads up Haarland's arse - but we actually really did sign a 100M player in Nunez. Even last season - we never played to his strengths despite him making some great runs as a traditional number 9 - but we don't play that way to feed a number 9 constantly so he suffered because of us - it was never really his form as as striker.

Just fucking start him klopp for fucks sake

I think we were managing minutes since he had a cramp didn't he?

Anyway, the more Nunez does stuff that is useful outside of scoring, the more he will play. He's playing so much more relaxed than last year.

Potentially, but its seemingly been the case for the entire of the season. He's doing everything right, and proving a consistent threat for pressing, assists and goals. If he doesn't start next weekend i'll genuinely be at a loss

Just a world class striker doing his thing, no real surprise to see his massive contributions. If he would’ve started he’ll have scored a few…but can understand why he didn’t and it’s nothing to do with form.

Though the argument for him to start is good, but he comes on as a sub, he has huge impact on the game. I think it's fair to see his better games have been him coming on as a sub?

Nunez is ace.

Love the work from Gary for the second goal. Defending in his own box, then one look up and a top pass to our top front two.

At the expense of Jota who does fuck all every game to warrant starts? Goes on his mazy runs and loses the ball 9 times out of 10.
